Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSEDSo you planned 10 and did 20 miles. Wow! That is some serious mileage. Now you know you can go the distance. Personally, I find that my mid-week mileage needs to be pretty high when I have those long runs on the weekend. I actually try to keep to keep my long run to 1/3 of my total weekly mileage. (Fwiw - I think that formula comes from Daniels running book.) So when I'm marathon training when I have a 20 mile run my weekly mileage will be 40 miles for a weekly total of 60 miles. The reason I do that is because that way my body is strong enough to not get injured on those long runs. For my and second marathons I had much lower mileage and I suffered from ITBS both times by the time I got to the race. When I upped my mileage over all - I found that I did better preventing injuries. Other runners can do marathon training with much lower mileage and have good success so if this works for you that's awesome. After my long runs (16+) I "enjoy" an ice bath and compression pants to aid in my recovery. Plus lots of water - lots. D_L_B - 2013-01-18 5:19 PM Thanks JREDFLY. Planned on at least 10 miles and nailed that. Felt feisty so we decided to do it again. That's right, we went 20. Longest run that I have ever done was 10 and that was in September. My training partner and I went from our long runs at 6 miles to 20. Possibly the worst idea we have had in a while. At 18ish miles I started praying for a rabid animal to come out and chew my leg off so I could stop running.maybe a little bragging but I was/am pretty excited. |
