No race for me this weekend.  Going to get in some longer bike and run sessions.  First duathlon coming up next weekend and another one the week after that.  First triathlon is June 3.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Wow all this long distance zone 2 training is taking its toll on me. I ran that 25k on Saturday and I had one gear. I started out wanting to ease into the race and have maybe a 7:00 min first mile, and bingo right on the nose. Problem was wanting negative splits the rest of the way never happened. 7:00 mins a mile give or take 10 seconds either way the rest of the race. Just didn't have any leg speed what so ever. I wil put out a full race report hopefully later today.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!

Yeah, I BUST to run 7 min miles. I dream of starting a race at 7 min and then speeding up.

I am still resting my foot. Basically for the Extensor Tendonitis, I rest my foot. Ice, Elevation. Rest is the most important. I am not running. I cannot kick when I swim. I do non impact workouts. I bike and I row. The foot is still a little sore, but not a lot of pain like there used to be. I am still going to try the Madison Marathon. My Dr. said it will be all about pain management. There shouldn't be any issue with a stress fracture, I can't damage my foot permanently by running, but it could be quite painful.

We shall see....

Good luck in your marathon. Just make sure you are mentally tough enough to handle the pain, but I say gut it out and finish the d@#$ thing

Anyone racing this weekend? I am finally back to racing again after not doing much for the last 6-8 months. I use to race road races most weekends of the year. All this tri training has put a damper on that for a while.

Good luck on the marathon

I'm starting 6 straight weekends of races this coming weekend with the Gear West Duathlon.  The season has started!!

Hoping to get the first OW swim in on May 30 with our regular Wed night swim group at Perch Lake in Wisconsin.  I'd like to get at least one OW swim in before my first tri on June 3.

My first tri is June 3rd too.

Good luck everyone- kick some a$$

Yeah I think I am going OWSwimming tomorrow. Only suppose to be mid 60's and lake is small and I am sure still cool but I need to get out there and at least start to get use to it. I used my wetsuit 3 times this winter at the Y when the heater was broke but I need to be where there is no cement every 25 yards and no line on the bottom.

Next weekend is our annual pilgramage to our friends cottage up north. Me and a buddy bike up (around 85 miles) and then I hope to swim around the lake (3miles or so) at least once.

It is so exciting that all that winter and spring training is finally starting to mean something and be put to use.

Ran a 5k and find out what I already knew. No racing + no speed work for a year and a half = slower times. 18:49 good enough for 4th in a very small field.

Big week of workouts planned for this week though. Time to start kicking it in. 4 months from tomorrow is D-Day.

Of course 18:49, in my world, is FLYING. So no racing and no speed work seems to work great.

I did the Gear West Duathlon  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=76918&posts=10&start=1

It went OK, but for these early races I'm training right through them.  I did pretty well on the run portions (3rd and 1st in AG for run legs #1 and #2), but I got killed on the bike.  My road bike didn't have a chance in the strong headwinds.

We stopped at the Gear West tri shop after the race and I decided this is my new bike when I can afford it ($7,000)...next year though

That bike makes me drool.. seriously- NICE.

I need to get in the open water- maybe this weekend.  Can I ask what you guys use to get your wetsuits on and off easier?  and do you just use it for tris, or always???  No I obviously havent used my wetsuit yet

I use Body Glide to lube my legs to make it easier to get the suit on.  Also, you'll want to use the glide to lube parts of your body that may chaffe while swimming with the wetsuit on....back of neck, underarms, etc.  Body glide is safe for use in wetsuits and is the most recommended by manufacturers.  Other lubricating substances may degrade the rubber in the suits.

I use a wetsuit for almost all of my open water swims and all triathlons... its free speed    What brand and type (sleeved, sleeveless) suit do you have?

Body Glide on the back of the neck is mandatory, IMO. You won't forget a second time if you forget a first.

Birkie what type have you used and or owned. I have both sleeveless and full. I used my sleeveless this winter in the pool at the Y and just went and bought a full last week and have used it 3 times so far. My shoulders seem tighter obviously in the full but everyone recommended I get one for the same reason you just said "free speed".

Big weekend plans everyone?

Did a 4200? yard OWS today, trainer and weights tonight and then the fun begins.

Tomorrow either 2000 yards hard at the Y or another OWS and then me and a friend will be biking up to our friends cottage for the weekend. I will be meeting him at his work so I will end up getting in 112 miles and find out how it feels. Then a weekend full of swimming and plenty of running and fill the rest of the time with beach sports, horrible eating, and board games.

Next week ironman diet will be in full force with only 16 weeks left. Have a great holiday everyone!!

Shermbelle - 2007-05-24 3:26 PM Birkie what type have you used and or owned. I have both sleeveless and full.

I have a QR sleeveless and the new Blue Seventy Helix full.  I really LOVE the Helix - it has patched of more flexible material in just the right spots in the shoulders to make it comfortable.

Sound like you have an epic training week coming up.  Apple Duathlon for me this Saturday.  Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend.

I have the sleeveless Blue Seventy.. I had to go sleeveless because I have pretty broad shoulders for a girl and could get a good fit with sleeves.

I think I might go use it Monday
