Just sent them email saying exactly that. I'd almost rather do 2 laps.

Looks like there is also a pre-swim if you'd like.

I'm SUPER pissed, Chris you put it exactly.

Sally glad you will be overtrained, I think we all will be!

Jot - I too would rather ride 2 loops.

I am seriously considering throwing this race and doing the Half bike just to get some bike time in. (swim quarter swim , do 3 laps on the bike, do the quarter run) Would look like an AWFUL race time but at least I would get good training for El Tour in since they shortened the bike. It just does not make sense about the whole construction thing since the Half athletes still ride the same course. Hmmm. Wonder what would happen if I just stayed out on the bike course?

Jen, there's nothing they can do to you for riding two loops. In fact, they wouldn't even know until after you did it.

I think we should all email them and let them know we're unhappy customers. This race was EXPENSIVE!

Edit: I just emailed them

I did the quick math. The bike ride is 35% shorter. Over a third. Crazy.

I emailed them too. Seems like its the easy way out to just have us do one loop, less work for them? Had I known this a few weeks ago, I'd probably have tried to get into the half. I'd have been slow, but at least it would be more than a sprint.

You can switch to the half up to a week before hand. They'll let you do it. I'm pretty sure I can survive the bike and swim fairly easily, but haven't put in the run miles for the 13.

You may only switch if you buck up more cash - a croc of a scam!

I thought about swithching to the half too only to do the bike and SUFFER horrendously through the rest. That is until my swim last weekend. I am still sort of considering but I don't want my first half to be just for training really. But this is getting to be a bit of a MESS!

Just got email from Jeff Suffolk of RedRock. The ride will be 25 miles. I can deal with that.

OK OK at least its an Oly ride. They have GOT to be better about wording their stuff in their guides and such, I dealt with this on PBR. They say 2 different things - "one loop" in the athlete guide, but the website says it will be only 4 miles shorter. Us triathletes are detail oriented people we don't like confounding information!

I agree totally Jen. 25 miles is fair. The company needs to COMMUNICATE. They gave absolutely no indication that they were still working to extend the course or that they would try to compensate people for having the course changed at such a late time.

I was pretty blunt (but I don't believe rude) in my email to him last night, but I'm courious as to what his reply back to me is. I can't check my email until I get home.

Because of their complete lack of communication, if he offers me my money back like he did Jerry, I'm taking it. It's also my belief that they only made the change today after the response they received yesterday and this morning.

In addition; this all comes after the weekend that Jen and Josh did a race where they 1. posted Jen as DNF'ing, and 2. Posted Josh as averaging 7:30 miles, which he say's is pretty impossible. They're not showing the quality that I'm expecting after paying so much money.

I agree that the change is probably a result of the e-mails, but then again he called me rude for complaining!

These too are the people who had on the Timex website that it would for sure be wet suit legal ALL year up until 2 days prior after my constant prodding.

However, having said that.  I thought the Timex race was great, and very well run.  If Jeff was the guy who gave the pre-race talk (and I think he was) he sounded like a great guy.  I am sure it is very hard to pull all this stuff off.  I received a survey email after Timex to rate the race and provide feedback, which I did.  Make sure you take the time to fill yours our after SOMA and provide constructive criticism for the things you did not like. Always help when you are delivering bad information to also say something good as well.

Agreed that they need to account for every detail and be clear, especially when it comes to the course details.

OK.....this is EXTREMELY BAD........sorry!!!  I know I am the one that requested the Saturday afternoon bike ride....but things have changed for me.  Since I am leaving early on Sunday morning for a week, my ability to get things done before I leave is getting cramped, and an opportunity has arisen.  My son gets out of school at noon today, and is going on a birthday party trip to the zoo and then out to eat.  So Mat is going to come home early so we can go ride Usery together.  I will still need to run and swim tomorrow, but I just couldn't turn down this rare opportunity.  SORRY!!!!!  Really.....I feel really bad, but it's just a crazy 2 days for me here, and I have to maximize this chance. Sorry if I screwed things up!!!

For me: SOMA pre-ride and run. They have racks at Red Rock so you can go, group ride, rack your bike, go run, come back and get a drink. Last time (for Nathan's) they had water and gu and other stuff all sitting out as well.
