Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread K so I ended up not biking much yesterday.... I ended up driving 500 miles round trip to buy a new bike. I did do about 5 miles testing different bikes. I settled on the Trek S22 Tri bike with standard gearing for um ouche $1550.. and upgraded the sadel so my nether regions don't go numb on long rides, although I'm married so that doesn't matter much, and the speedometer, with the cadence measure and well some tri shorts so i can do a tri some day and well a helmet that will meet specs so they dont boot me from the compettion and well a hat cuz its cold up here and well a shirt to go with the pants and well pedles to go with the bike and of course shoes to go with the clipless pedles and well a spare tire to go with the oh ya need an emergency pack to put the oh ya need levers and um spoke and chain and allen wrench thingies and well a CO2 cartrige to go with the spare tire and patch kit that goes in the emergency pack with the other tools that I have no idea what they do and oh ya since its a 120 pound tire it has funky nosels that require a new air pump with a gage on it to get the tires high enough and oh a bracket to hold waterbottles, oh they dont have the double behind the back holder thingy, guess I will have to order it, and they didn't have the cyclopse 2 either so I will have to order that too and the Stick for my poor legs. So that was my day, with 10 hours of driving and 3 hours in the shop, test riding stuff equiping stuff etc. Now to figure out how to ride a tri bike... with clipless pedles that you clip into, before Monday comes around and I have to run again. There line breaks and now real punctuation. Grins evilly. Oh and never ride a tri bike wearing jeans.. I won't expand apon the location of the zipper relative to the seat in Tri position. And Tri clothing... isn't very flattering if you are not below 9 percent bodyfat either... Edited by Baowolf 2007-10-07 1:13 PM |

Expert 973 Berkeley, Calif. | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread lyssa-gator - 2007-10-07 11:10 AM ok, i did a whopping 5 today, IN the rain. OK, all this to say, i'm SO glad i'm doing this challenge, i'm so glad i found this site, i'm so glad i do triathlons now, i'm so glad i've become who i am. sappy? probably, but hey, i'm still high from running. later i'll get on here, and probably chew you all out First off, yay you on the run! Dee's a pretty powerful motivator, yes? I'm impressed with your hills -- I have plenty of hills in my city, but all the routes near my house are fairly flat and I tend to stick to those. I'd feel guilty, but my race is going to be super flat, so I figure I'm OK training that way for now. Second, I love your story! It's really inspiring to read about how this sport has worked for you and all that you've accomplished. (And also, 148 pounds sounds pretty great to me.) I've only been at this seriously for about six month, and I can already tell that I'm a better person for it. So let's be sappy together, OK? |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Yeah, very few people look good in TRI shorts let alone the whole outfit. At my first race I really had to talk myself in leaving the house in my race clothes. But once at the race and I saw people of all shapes and sizes, I realized that how you look on race day does not matter as much as the fact that you are out there doing a TRI. Sounds like a sweet bike. 1.5 miles for me again today. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread i'm up over 16 miles total!! less than 34 miles to go!! the rest of my week (which goes until wendesday- hubby has a weird work schedule) depends on how much overtime dh pickes up. i didn't think i'd be able to run this morning, but they didn't call him in early, so i never know. my goal is to get 9 more miles before the 10th. that will put me at 50% that would rock, and i'd like to see jason keep up with THAT!! lol |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread lyssa-gator - 2007-10-07 2:10 PM a year ago i was coming up on 200 pounds (ok, granted, i was pretty pregnant) i got on this morning and was 148 pounds. Wow! That's GREAT! Congratulations! Let's see: 200 - 148 = 52 lbs lost. 52 lbs x 3600 Calories/lb = 187,200 Calories 1 slice of Pizza Hut Pizza = 260 Calories (from the USDA Nutrient Database) 187,200 Calories / 260 Calories per slice = 720 slices of Pizza Hut Pizza Wow. You've lost the equivalent weight of 720 slices of Pizza Hut Pizza! Impressive doesn't begin to describe what you did. It's like, BEYOND amazing when put in that context. Dee |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread K so having bought the new bike yesterday... I had to take it for a ride, but going 22 miles ona new bike, with a new saddle, new shoes with funky cleat things on the bottom of them may have not been the best choice... especially since I am sposed to be running.... so i did a 5k afterwards... had to walk the last mile though... bam legs were done. Love the new bike, averaged 16.9 mph over the 22 miles with a fair number of hills of less than 500 foot ascent. That is 4.6 mph faster than I tended to do on the other bike. And on the brick after the bikeride, everything above me calves were fine. Probly just a conditioning thing on the calves as this is like week 7 or something of even exercizing. BTW grats on the weightloss. Im trying to shed a few pounds too.. was 180 this summer, ewe, but, down to 160 now. Still not looking GQ in the new tri outfit, but I can get it on. For those who will buy a nice bike some day... splurge and get the anotomically correct saddle when you buy the bike. I had them give me credit for the value of the junk seat and got the nice one with the 25 percent discount it ended up only being $45 dollard more instead of $140. Also, having taken enough time off with lite workouts I realized I wasnt taking enough time off from exercizing to recover and thats why I was fatigued. Today felt fine and it was a decent workout. I will be dropping to 5 exercize days per week with 2 full 100 % rest days, at least untill my fitness improves. And now for some well earned junkfood... an apple and a granola bar, with icewater. Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Baowolf - 2007-10-07 2:10 PM There line breaks and now real punctuation. Grins evilly. I'd like to read your dissertation. You must have driven your advisors insane. (Although, having had advisors, they all DESERVE to be driven insane. But that's another story....) 1) Congratulations on getting the bike. (And all the 100,000 accompanying accesories.) You need to write a "Bike Porn" post in the gear forum. Everyone will be jealous. 2) As pointed out in some other thread, "cyclopse" is an ill-tempered, one eyed giant. Personally, I'd rather have a Cycle Ops. But enjoy your cyclopse. (Count this as payback for your evil line breaks.) If you haven't already done so, check the gear forum - there are a few posts about where to get this at a really good price. 3) So now we have your post about the zipper location in jeans while riding bikes. And earlier we had a post from Jason about biking in work clothes. I've noticed a trend here. But since I'm female, I'm not going to give this trend much thought. 4) Tri clothing. Um yeah. I don't own any yet, though. I did stumble across a pair of bike shorts from about 13 years ago. They've, uh, shrunk. A lot. 'Nuff said. 5) Your new signature is MUCH better. Congratulations on the new bike! Dee |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread There are insain bikers in BT that blike like 5k miles a year. I am still trying to ballence running and biking to keep 15 miles run/walk with cooldowns warmups, 50 miles biked per week without getting fried. Over did it last week, we see how it goes this week... No worries, I will make my goal running even if I have to include the crawl option. My main problem, other than the pool, is I have just not been doing this stuff for long enough to have the endurance to progress as fast as I would like. I would like to do a sprint this year, but I would have to walk part of it as things stand. Although, if the bike was shorter than 22 miles, then I should be able to run a 5k afterwards and well the swim is just gonna be slow. With the swim it is just a matter of how far I think I can go without drownding not about speed at this point. As for the disertation, ya, my 4th commitee member made me rewrite the whole document, not based on the research, the lit review or the conclusions, but based on the writing style. He gave me oh 40 hours to rewrite the 200 page document. Then when I highlighted each correction and presented the changes to him (all like 4000 of them) he oppened the document to a random page looked at it for 1/2 second and said, ok looks fine. It was a power play to try to see if I wanted it badly enough. Got to love having 4 comittee members all with narcisistic personality disorder. Oh well, will focus on staying within my limitations for the week.... and I purchased the Marathon Stick... we see how that does on those stubborn calves. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread also should re state, that although i'd LOVE to take 100% credit on the weight loss this year. i WAS about 7 months pregnant a year ago right now. i was right at 200 about an hour before i delivered him, so a lot of those pieces of pizza were well, baby. i HAVE lost tons of weight this year, and i'm smaller than i've been in at least 12 years, but for my own concious sake, i DO have to admit that. THAT being said, THANKS for all the kind words |

For the Bike/Swim Challenge last month, one guy biked over 530 miles. Amazing. Some people were riding insane distances. (My swim total wasn't bad, at least.) Do they still have sprints this late in the year where you are? Setup Events had their last North Carolina Tri this past weekend. The distances were too great for me to even think about entering. So the first chance I'll have to do a Sprint will be next Spring. (Unless I find a different group hosting them.) The run is what's going to kill me. (Well, once I get a bike, that is. Going to be difficult to compete on a stationary bike. LOL) If I have to walk, I'll walk.... The swim will be the easiest for me. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread A marathon stick or The Stick is a masage device to make your legs not hurt anymore. It basically separates muscles that have knotted up and aligns them in teh correct position to avoid soreness and quicken recovery. I hear it is especially good on areas that are hard to streatch like IT band. ... we see how it goes. |
