What's you volunteer post, runnerx? I'm co-captain of Volunteer Food and Fun tent in the oval......still seeking volunteers if anyone is interested.....

Bike Handler - first 2 shifts. Plus plenty of time to spectate in between and after.

I may go up with someone who would be interested in volunteering. I'll PM you separately.

Does anyone else find that taper, nerves, whatever makes you really emotional? Yesterday, after having lunch with a friend, I almost cried when leaving. I did shed some tears while watching a rerun of the Fresh Prince the other day. Seriously. WTH? And this AM during a conference call, someone mentioned she got engaged over the weekend and my eyes started tearing up! I barely know that person too! I'm never all sappy and emotional. This is gonna be a long two weeks .

Wait till after the race!!!! Way emotional!

I was very emotional last week but something changed and I feel calm, ready and just waiting. Other thing that has changed is I'm not fearful like I was. I think I should be able to finish unless something weird comes up...this is probably the biggest change in my mental outlook. I think it will be an amazing experience that is hard but fun that will have memories for a life time.

I'm enjoying this tapering stuff. I have time to do things with my family, watch the Sox games, sleep longer, and my body is feeling much better fatigue wise other than my lower back acting up where I herniated discs 10 years ago and had surgery..but I know it will be okay. I had my best ride in '08 last Friday and my legs felt a little fatigue but they had so much more zip in them than they have.

I have lots to do to get 7 people ready for 7 day trip that I will be busy with that. I want our time in Lake Placid to be calm and not chaotic which with 5 kids and 3 adults may not be possible.

Yikes! You're right that will be a challenge. Make sure one of the other two adults can handle the kids for the last day or two so that you can have some complete recharge time prior to Sunday.

I'm not nervous right now but I've started to have some pretty vivid visualizations of different aspects of race day just before falling asleep at night.

I've been having weird visualizations about IM stuff almost nightly for last year. I mean how many weird or bad things can possibly happen. I think I have quite a creative imagination.

Yah my husband will be helpful. My twin sons are 19 one is great other is a PIA stage right now and it is best he isn't to close to any of us to long or well it isn't pleasant. I want it to be stress free if possible.

Hey everyone,

I've been keeping up on the thread and thought I'd finally chime in.  I'm getting more anxious as the weeks go on.  It's getting tougher and tougher to focus at work and I'm more nervous and emotional now.  It seems like the emotions hit me on the drive into work for some reason - no matter what the song, I'll well up and start thinking about finishing (I hope, pray that I get there!

I have started checking the weather, even though it doesn't matter.  At this point, I think I've trained in a little bit of everything, so it won't rattle me one way or the other.  I'm more concerned about my family - we're staying right on Mirror Lake on the bike and run course, so at least they'll be able to ditch inside quickly if it does get nasty.

I just checked to see what female pros are doing the race, and it looks like Hilary Biscay and Desiree Ficker are signed up (amongst others that I haven't heard of).

Good luck to everyone!

Yes, my tapering this week includes a 5 hour brick on Wed.. Although I am working the weekend and won't train that much then.

I just installed my disc cover on my Zipp 404... looks nice.

BTW Desiree Ficker is also racing this event!

Race #s are still not available I guess.

Are the bib numbers ever on timre? I think they were close for CDA.

My long workouts for the week were all cut by my coach over the weekend. My 12 mile run is now 8, my brick is 40 miles/3 miles, but I am doing another IM distance swim.

Sue (socks from BT) gave me some swim pointers over the weekend and seems they are making a difference.  I did a comparison w/ and w/o my wetsuit in the pool and seems I gain about 5 seconds per 100 with my wetsuit (only used my bibs otherwise I'd be too hot).

If Kim Loeffler's healthy, my money's on her. She's done well here before, and is from Vermont, so it's kind of a home course for her.

The men's field could be interesting. Especially if the rumors of Stadler racing are true. He and Bjorn Andersson could be quite a dual on the bike. A couple of veterans in Jonas Colting (2x Ultraman champ) and Lothar Leder (first to go under 8 hours in an IM), and Sergio Marques who I think has the record for fastest run time at Kona. There's also Penn State's (Fred) coach Paul Fritzsche who went 2nd at Wisconsin and is familiar with the course.

OK, so how crazy am I? The SVP to whom I used to report (prior to the merger) sent me an email asking if he could take me to lunch on Monday as sort of a good luck celebration prior to Ironman. Totally cool gesture. However, he knows I love Mexican food and suggested a Mexican restaurant. But since the FDA announced over the weekend that it's looking into cilantro, jalepeno, and other ingredients often found in Mexican food as the cause of the salmonella outbreak, I think I am going to stay away from those foods until July 21. Honestly, those types of things don't typically have any effect on my eating habits, but with 12 days to go until IM, why take it the chance? Avoiding those foods for 12 days won't kill me. So, I told him I won't go to Mexican. I probably sound so crazy, but he understood. I'm not 100% sure if I can make it for lunch (will have to let him know later this week); but if I do, I now have to pick the restaurant. Maybe I should just put off the lunch until after IM. I still ate fresh tomatoes up until a week or so ago, and still eat jarred tomato products (sauce) and will do so up until the big day. I just want to "play it safe" for the next few days.

Which one? I LOVE Mexican and will probably definitely be in the mood for it the day after the race as I always crave it after big workouts. I just won't be eating eat any time prior .

I tried going to Loca Luna I think it was called when I was last up there, but it was closed .

Anyone know how the bib numbers are posted? I figured they'd be there when you did the NAS Participants Search which currently lists it as n/a. Or do they post them some place else.

Mexican food sounds yummy.

Did we ever decide if we are meeting up Monday after the race someplace?

That is exactly where they post them. NAS is just a little slow. I will say, for IMFL 70.3, they were there 10am on the day advertised, not sure what is up with the delay this time. I checked one last time before i posted, still not out there.

They'll show up on the participants list eventually. I think the email from them last week said that they would be assigning bib numbers on Monday of this week, but that doesn't mean that they will publish them right away...

Based on aquinn's username, I'm guessing this is the mexican restaurant : http://www.mexiquinn.com/

So I'm rethinking my swim strategy - in 2006 I started about 1/3rd of the way back and swam just inside the buoys. There was contact, but not all that bad. I was on the shore last year watching the swim start, and there seemed to be a lot more people trying to follow that line, and a lot of beating going on as people tried to get around the dock and get on the line. Plus, looking at the overhead pictures from last years's swim, it looks pretty intense on both sides of the buoy line.

So this started me thinking about starting over to the right and taking a diagonal line to the first buoy, which led me to do a little basic math which doesn't seem right to me - assuming that the length of the straight line to the turn buoy is 1000 yards, and I start 50 yards to the right, then the diagonal line is only a little over 1001 yards. Only a yard longer? Can that be right?

I know, taper madness is getting to me...

I stopped doing math after my attempt to figure out just how many meters on average would be between each biker when 2,000 riders are spread out over 56 miles, and what the likelihood is that at any given time I could maybe accidentally be in someone's draft zone.

Dunno about your numbers but I too was thinking of starting inside the buoy's. But between the pics and a post on ST it sure seems like the cat is out of the bag.

I'm prolly going to end up starting from the right too so I'd appreciate it if you wud get those numbers right
