My birthday present (way early) showed up from my parents today.  Blueseventy PZ3TX.  My Mom is pretty cool.  She said she "knew I needed all the help I could get with the swim come May."  LOL.

Much better March than February for me.

March's totals:
Bike:37h 52m 22s  - 624.43 Mi
Run:15h 06m 55s  - 100.67 Mi
Swim:9h 33m 17s  - 35550 Yd
Strength:20m

Your volume is ridiculous BTW

X2. That is some serious time on the trainer.

I like the trainer.  Its efficient.  It actually feels pretty good to be back to "normal" volume.

How well does the trainer equate to outdoors? In other words, with all my winter trainer miles will I see an appreciable improvement when I go outside?

I got promoted to the next faster lane at Masters this morning!  Hoo-hoo!

Also, the brick workout was considerably easier this weekend than last.  I did the same distance on both the bike and the run (90 min/30 min) but was careful with the pacing on the bike and also the fluid intake toward the end of the bike.  It was still quite an adjustment, but definitely more manageable than it was last week.  I got the feeling that I'll be able to get used to it more with practice.

The trainer is hugely more efficient than riding outside.  The rough equations I've seen are 1 trainer mile = 1.2 outdoor miles.  Sometimes its tough to measure improvement on the trainer without a power meter but you should see a pretty big boost in speed and endurance (especially endurance) when you head back outside.

So I need some input.  I'm the RD of a 5K on a Wednesday night in June.  Its the first race I ever founded / race directed and its the little race that could.  As I've grown my other two races this one has kind of treaded water.  Here's the FaceBook page -- https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Solstice-Sprint-5K/304037739662389 -- any suggestions on how to make a Wednesday night 5K special?

Have a 1 mile race for kids, have prizes for family teams, June should be hot so supply cheap water guns where kids can squirt their parents as they run by, add some obstacles with prizes on the other side for those who choose to partake, have music or bands along the route or entertainment after, get somebody, probably the local running shop, to host a running clinic after the event, add a wheel chair event.

30 minute recovery ride, 1700 in the pool and a 2 mile recovery run. I had planned on more in the pool but my legs were toast and I felt like it was killing my form so I'll make up the yardage another day. 20 minutes of core work in the books as well.

I like Scott's suggestion of making it a family event with a 1 mile fun run/walk. If you can do something with water other than water guns, that would be fun too but some people might be turned off by the 'guns'.

I would also look into a big ice cream bash afterwards - maybe a make your own sundae type of thing. Nothing says summer like ice cream. How many people usually attend?

1:15 on the trainer and a 10.05 mile run in the books. The run was the first time I've averaged under 9-minute miles for 10+ miles where none of the mile had an average heart rate of 150 or greater and my max heart rate never hit 160 and minus the first mile all the miles were sub-9 and the course was not flat.

With my recent gains I'm trying to reel in my grandiose expectations for my races that my ego is writing checks for and hoping my body can cash them, LOL.

Still did my core work after the run.

That is great Scott!!

What do you do for your core work?

My staples are hyper-extensions, leg raises (where your back is against a pad and so are your arms and you're straight up and elevated), plank, side plank, bridge, crab, a modified warrior pose where one leg is straight back and the opposite arm straightforward parallel to your body, running balance drills on a core board, mini band side raises, mini band walks and this is the best one I own a thigh master and do hip abductor squeezes!!! LOL Suzanne Summers should be so proud. If you told me in the 20's I'd be doing that I'd laugh and call you a liar. My wife loves dropping that one to people we know but I don't care. I swear it works. I also do some side raises and extension drills on my roller to start the day.

Thanks Scott!

That's a good point I hadn't thought of especially in CT but maybe call them super soakers as to not offend anybody and make it clear that if you don't want to get wet stay to one side of the course.

Yep.  In every pair of my shoes.  Not sure if it's because they work or because I'm lazy or both.

Wow. Lots of wonderful accomplishments in here over this past week. I will do my best to catch up tomorrow morning.

I was at my parents' house the last 5 days. I managed to get in all my training while juggling 200 other things, so I'm pleased. Bad news is that I ate nearly 3 dozen Peeps and a huge bag of black jelly beans. It was a situation. Detox time. I don't want to know the damage. LOL
