Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I did my first swim since Dec 20. The bad news is the swim was only about 23 minutes, so no point for the March Challenge. The good news is I remembered how to swim and didn't drown. Hopefully my next swim won't be two months from now like this one was. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I sweated off the cold I had out of my system with today's long tough workout: 90 mile bike, 4:53 + 34:44 brick run. Hope everyone is having a great weekend! MARCH CHALLENGE |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Went out for ride this morning on my 29'er. Had to return the road bike I had borrowed a few months back. What a difference, not a good one. Found out you can't accelerate much at all, especially when KUJO is nipping at your ankle. But at least it didn't bite me. Scared the #$%^ out of me. I want a road bike! What's more important heart rate monitor or road bike? Any opinions? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Steelfin What's more important heart rate monitor or road bike? Any opinions? My first road bike was a $15 garage sale special second was free client had it in his pole barn an old tenant left it after he was evicted. Both were faster than the mountain bike. If you look you bike is sitting in some fat guy's garage. There are $20 hrm out there. It does not have to be great it just has to work. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1:30 watching sufferfest on the trainer. Word to the wise, Mexican food is a poor choice before a workout. I don't care how good the queso dip was going in, not so good in the other direction. MARCH CHALLENGE Edited by JBacarella 2012-03-03 8:10 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm now way behind on the challenge. Despite taking running stuff with us and having the best intentions, our two days at the triathlon show have been incredibly full and involved no formal exercise. However we've had an absolutely fantastic time, spent FAR too much money and I've definitely come back feeling super motivated. Highlights of the show for me: - Q&A with Chrissie Wellington. Let's face it, she's my hero - Getting my bike pedalling analysed and being told that my pedalling is equivalent to an elite. Unfortunately that was technique rather than power. Still a ways to go on that... - Going to a bunch of seminars that made me feel like I'm relatively well informed and going in the right direction with my training (for which I have you guys to thank). - Getting to say "I'm training for ironman" about 100 times without having to explain what it is, or feel embarrassed that I'm not really fit enough for it. We've got some new toys including hand paddles and a pull buoy so I'm going to try to incorporate those into all my swimming sessions. We've also got a whole load of compression gear, including some leggings for Kevin that have pockets for ice packs so you can ice and compress at the same time. Overall it was a great weekend. We were disappointed we had to miss the last day, but I had to be back for work and to honest I don't think the credit card could have handled another day. The plan for getting my training back on track was an outside ride after work today. Unfortunately it's been snowing this morning, so possibly not a great plan. I'm contemplating a trainer ride with a little brick run afterwards. Will have to see how I feel though as Ive only had 13 hours sleep in the last 72 hours so I may be a little tired... |

![]() I just caught up on reading some threads. Participating in master swim classes has made swimming much more fun for me. Swimming in a lane with 1 to 4 other women forces me to keep moving at a reasonable pace. the only extracurricular lessons i had as a kid was swimming - cheap and we just walked across to St. Lawrence Parkway from home in Eastern Canada. Because I wish our coach would give a few more individual comments, i also schedule some individual lessons. Although my speed has decreased, i think the MAF method has really helped to increase my enjoyment on runs. i feel i can keep going longer without wanting to stop and walk. i just hope speed will increase over next 5 months. my favorite discipline has always been cycling. i did not have a car until i got married for 1st time at 35. I cycled everywhere in montreal, ottawa, winnipeg, hamilton and everywhere else i lived. Riding for transportation in downtown of cities is different than racing. even though i much prefer riding outdoors, i hope time on the computrainer will help increase speed before big race in august. Arkansas is a fun place to ride and much longer season than in canada. another perk for falling in love with a southern boy... i love having the challenge again. does our mentor group continue throughout 2012 - i hope so... |
