uhcoog - 2012-07-17 10:09 AM A gel!!!!!!!!  The horror.   Tongue out

I say the same thing EVERY time I consume something artificial like a gel or a bottle of sport drink.....the horror!  I have always been pretty crazy about what I put into my body, but over the last 2 years, I've been even more particular.  If it's not real food...meaning a piece of fruit, veg, meat, or whole grain, I don't want it in my body.  It's been a real challenge consuming these things that don't even come close to resembling food.

I cannot stand GU, Hammer of any of the other thick gels that are like eating semi liquified cotton candy. I've taken to two natural ones and actually find them reasonably enjoyable. The top is made with figs and the bottom honey. I'll still put a banana in the back of my cycling jersey to offset having to do all gels when training but these aren't bad.

I have several friends who have taken to Napalm by Infinit.  It's mix your own so you control the consistency.

I'll give it a shot. I've been meaning to try Infinit out in general.

i use it (napalm), it is much more palatable than Gu, and i love the grape flavor.  I even use it for riding once in a while. If i mix a batch and do not use it in a race, i will just pour that into water and have a light bike mix. Calories are calories.

Went to the ortho this morning.

Good news -- Looks (feels) like I have a tear in my shoulder but he can't tell if its partial or complete without an MRI, so I'm scheduled for an MRI on July 29.  Said even if there is a complete tear, I may not need surgery because I have good musculature around that shoulder that holds things together.

Bad news -- The nasty bruise I have on my upper leg / hip is a partial IT band tear.  If I don't let it heal, I could rupture my entire IT band.

Right now he's prescribed the MRI and PT.  I have follow up appointment on August 7.  I'm still processing everything.  I was prepared to handle whatever he said about the shoulder, I wasn't ready for the IT band issue.

i know you are still mad at me for retiring, but that really sucks Kelly. I am sorry to hear that has happened.

How long have you had the ITB issue?  Where did the pain start??

Since Thursday when I crashed my bike.  Partial tear was caused by impact.

Shaun t-boned me, wheels came out from under me and I smacked down on my elbow and hip.  Trauma from the impact injured the IT band (and the shoulder).

Morning, all.  Hit my intervals on the bike this morning and followed it up with a decent T run.  Dreading this day......3 1/2 hours of parents day at Conrad's day camp, where it will be 100 degrees in the shade.  Also got a call for a showing tonight from 6:15-7:15, so I have to pick up my husband downtown and find some food for my kids to eat.  The realtor said no crockpot on showing days.  Have to get this house whipped into shape in the next couple hours before I leave for camp.

I made the best veggie burgers last night.  Top ingredients were lentils, walnuts, mushrooms, kale, and flax seed meal.  2 kids downed the burgers; the other 2 scrunched up their noses and declined.  Usually it takes 4-5 tries with the little guys.  If anyone is interested in the recipe, let me know and I'll message it to you.

Tough pool workout today.  Felt I performed well or at least better than I would have just a couple of months ago.  The guy next to me was going about the same speed but making it look effortless.  I cussed him my whole swim.

There's this guy Billy in my master's swim class. He's in his mid 50's and the first time I walked in I thought OK this guy will be in the slow lane with me and could probably use to lay off the buffalo wings a bit. The way the coach does the lanes the fastest lane is actually next to the slowest. He proceeded to hop into that lane and was done with a lap when I was about done with a length and a quarter. During class he would be yucking it up as I was sucking for air.

I've moved up 3 lanes since then and he's still two ahead of me. Granted he's been swimming competitively since he was 7 and swam at the collegiate level but he's three inches shorter and probably has ten pounds on me and I'm ten years younger and and yet my all-out effort on a 100 is the speed of his slow intervals.

As nice of a guy as you'll meet and yet curse him and his perfect form and good swimming genetics!

I liked it, but then again I like shorter all out effort type stuff.  Endurance swim sets kill me.

And I like the endurance sets.  That pretty much goes for running and riding, too.  I like the long sessions but the repeats and all out intervals.....meh, not my fave.  Hope that means I'm more cut out for the longer distance races vs. these red line sprints and olympics.

I love long endurance sets if the scenery changes.  A black line for the whole time doesn't do it for me.

Yeh, they are great.

The pool must of had at least 200 people outside of lap swimmers, about 80 degree water, very warm.  What was disgusting, with all the kids, I was getting little girl hairs on my hands then wrapping around my fingers and wrist while I was swimming ... it was worse than seaweed, and very hard to shake loose while moving!!!

Swam our OW tonight ... water temp was upper 80's. I love over warm water, but had to cut my swim to a mile, it was just too hot and I hadn't hydrated enough.  WOW

However, I did do the 1 mile in 31 minutes which is pretty good for me!!!  I was sore from my 3rd swim in 3 days so that affect me doing 2 miles as well.

Up early for a long swim this morning.  I strained something in my arm (my husband said it looks like the tricep area) playing battleball at Conrad's day camp.  I always get hurt doing stupid stuff.  LOL  Felt it a bit during the swim this morning, but it wasn't anything that was intolerable or anything.  I have to go to parents' day at Madge's day camp today.

Tomorrow is a rest day, and then short recovery stuff on Saturday before Sunday's sprint tri.

I am moving in exactly 1 week.  Ahhhh!!!!

You're going to have so much fun.  Lake Placid is absolutely my favorite race venue.  Make sure you check out Saranac Sour Dough -- best sandwiches ever and Tail of the Pup (down the hill from Placid).
