Got in an OWS today at Cochiti Lake. Did 1 mile in just over 41 mins. It's funny seeing my garmin say 2 miles...I wish I was that fast!

you had a race today too . . .

I did  Sprint tri in our new neighborhood.  The morning was beautiful!!!  I had a time goal of 1:15 but finished in 1:17:10.  I'm not sure what my splits are because I was late hitting my Garmin lap button for every leg except the first.  My swim was really, really weak for me.  The water was extremely shallow, and I couldn't pick up my knees to run, so I lost a lot of time in the first 1/4 of a very short swim.  I was shocked when I looked at my watch and it said 8:xx.  What?!!!  Long run up to transition and a very steep hill.  I had an excellent bike for me.  I stayed in my aero bars the entire time (it was windy anyway).  I passed 8 females and at least a dozen men who were struggling.  No one passed me, and I took that as a great sign.  My run was great for me, too.  I'm not sure of my split, but I think my miles were around the 8:30-35 range, which is an improvement for this slow runner. I am not a sprinter, that's for sure.

I am very proud of all the work I've done on my bike this year.  I think it's paying off, and I think it will continue to pay off going into my HIM.  Thank you, Kelly.

GOD Blessed me with a Great Race!!

My marathon was slower then desired but at least I finished

I got a flat tire at mile 95 which took 5 mins to change but it was the only thing that went wrong but I stayed inside the BOX and got through it!!

I thank you all for your tracking me and suporting these last 30 weeks.

There will be a full report to come.

Well,I did it!! I finished my first Olympic distance!! Not quite IMLP but I am starting to feel proud of what I did. I had NO swim anxiety- huge for me!! I am still an ultra slow swimmer but I swam the distance without any panic, even when the 200 pound man swam over me like I was a jellyfish. I felt my bike was solid- I thought I would have averaged faster. There were so many bike crashes- is that normal? Three guys crashed right at the beginning 3 feet in front of me causing me to swerve. I was tired by the run and even though my mind wanted to go faster, my body didn't follow. So my biggest challenge yesterday was that I was afraid to reach my water bottle during the bike- last time I did it fell out of my hands. So I didn't drink on the bike and I was so so thirsty on the run. Jen, I got so bloated from all the liquids on the run!!! I was thinking of you!! I am thinking I getting on of the bottles that go between the aero bars- suggestions??

Congratulations, Michele!!!  You did a fantastic job!  Glad to hear that you experienced no swim anxiety.

I practiced and practiced grabbing my bottle while maintaining speed on my road bike.  I don't have the between the bars option like you all do, so I knew I had to work on this.  I still slow down a bit when taking swigs, but it's gotten so much better.  I would just get the between the bar bottle for your triathlon bike.  It just makes more sense.  Can't wait to upgrade next year

Great job Jeremy!

Larkin - heal up!

Michele - great first oly! It's a big jump up from a sprint.

Jen - glad you had a great race.

I have a hard time drinking from bottles while racing. Not grabbing them and actually drinking out of them, but just remembering to drink at all. The aero bottle is right there, straw pointing at you, hard to forget. So I drink out of that, and use bottles to refill or drink from as backup. I recommend getting one.

Life is back to normal today.  Not sick, dropped my sister off at the airport, bike is in good working order.  Knocked out 2500 at the pool.  Was only scheduled for 2k, but I've missed a few days of training and had a bunch of pent up energy.

BTW Swim Speed Secrets is a cool book.  Makes a ton of sense.  A lot of info I already knew and a lot I didn't put in a package I could comprehend.  Lots of work to do.

What would you do?

Oly is this weekend and I'm completely unprepared. Sidelined with the achilles problem for 2+ months coupled with being "out of it" training-wise due to that means an Oly would be a struggle.

I'm fine with the swim distance and the bike wouldn't be an issue. The run would be 3-4 miles of jogging and 2-3 miles of walking at best.

Do I line up for the Oly and see what happens? Ask to go down to the Sprint at packet pick up? Or just not toe the line at all?

I'd see if they'd let me race the sprint.  If the answer was no I'd just race the oly for grins and giggles.  I don't know of a race with a refund policy so pulling out would not be an option for me.  Does the RD put on multiple races?  Could see if you could transfer entry.

I'd do the Olympic as a training day and just have fun. Keep your heart rate firmly in zone two the entire time and you might surprise yourself and not have to walk at all.

Yea Jen a good bit of road rash and my pride was hurt. I took a spill yesterday while out on my bike. I was on the rear brake into a 90 degree turn and my back wheel went out from under me BMX style. Two weeks away from my Oly. Nothing major it seems. My leg wasn't as sore as I expected it to be this morning so that is a good sign. The worse is the road rash on my elbow. I may try a small ride on the trainer tonight or a run to see how it feels.

BTW how long would you guys wait to swim after getting road rash? My next swim is tomorrow and I have some of those new waterproof bandages for my elbow which is the worst.
