I think I'll take a cue from Charlotte and see how close to 100% of plan on do this month. I added it up, and if I just stick to my training plan I'll get 42 workouts which is darn close to a win! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok y'all, I need help. My first HIM (A race) is 9/30, 8 weeks from this Sunday. There is no doubt in my mind that barring any nutrition/medical/technical issues, I can finish the event in the time windows alloted right now. I got a little derailed with job loss and vacation, but I am going to get serious again right now. I need a simple plan to make the race easier rather than harder. I am doing a sprint Sunday (B or C race), just for more race practice, and plan to do an Olympic (B race) over Labor Day weekend. Other than that, I'm not sure what I should be doing to prepare. I would rather be undertrained than underrested. Insight please?? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jackiep - 2012-08-02 3:40 PM Undertrained for your first HIM? No way, Jose. You can't fake the distance of the event, mostly being your first one. One long ride and one long run a week at least (of course with all the peripheral workouts) and two to three swims per week as well.Ok y'all, I need help. My first HIM (A race) is 9/30, 8 weeks from this Sunday. There is no doubt in my mind that barring any nutrition/medical/technical issues, I can finish the event in the time windows alloted right now. I would rather be undertrained than underrested. Insight please?? A nutrition plan is also a requirement to complete anything like this. Remember that the HIM is longer than a marathon, you need to replace part of the carbs you consume or that will mean the end of the day. For rest you have the last week, it is time to work NOW. |

![]() | ![]() Jackie, Ernesto is right. Rest later, train now. Take a look at my training logs and see what I was doing 8 weeks before my HIM and every week thereafter. I did miss some of my workouts due to travel, but you will get the general idea. In retrospect, I am very happy I got those long rides and long runs in and basically got the overall volume up. As for nutrition, I was very happy with Perpetuem and Hammer products in general. But, again, E is right. The HIM is a competitive eating contest disguised as a triathlon. You have to get down a lot of calories on the bike because your body won't take downing calories as well during the run. Practice getting down calories on long rides (and runs). I was told by my bike teacher (the one that got bit by the otter) that I should be getting down at least 1000 calories on just the bike leg and that if you are hungry at the end of a long run or bike, even a practice long ride or bike, you aren't getting enough calories down. |

Solid effort btw 6:15-6:25 pace, but there ain't no MAF anywhere to be seen (especially with 90+% humidity). As I'm entering the second build cycle, I'm noticing changes. Running 5x week really changes things up. Also, without the bikes and swim, I'm really able to focus 100% on running. A very different approach to training. ![]() I know this is 1-2 days late, but is anyone interested in also doing a weight/nutrition plan in August. I use an online program to attempt to help make healthy choices and not indulge. Weight is still one of barriers to consistency and speed. I thought we might just enter data in similar manner to S/B/R challenge. Name Goals for Nutrition/Weight (could be points/calories/meal plan) % Compliance Weekly Weigh In Is anyone interested?

I'm about 9 pounds above my goal weight (160) for my marathon in 9 weeks. Not sure how this works for a challenge, but have to weigh myself everyday or else I cheat (more than usual). Why don't we just put %lost next at the end of our reporting line for the regular challenge? |
