Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Almost 2016 on this side of the world. Happy New Year to everyone and as Neil Young once sang: "Long may you run...." Adding my last workout of the month/year - 1 hour on the bike (6 x 1.5" at 120% FTP plus about 30 min at 80-85%). I hit my goal of 31 runs in December and am contemplating keeping it going to another couple of months. The key will be wether or not I can keep the run going while doing 3 pretty intense bike workouts per week. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy New Year all! Final workout of the year was a 43 minute tempo run this afternoon. Yesterday was an unplanned rest day as I was feeling pretty beat up from all the running. I strained something in my left hip last weekend on my long run and I'm struggling to heal it. Interestingly, one of the things I've learned from running so much over the past couple months is that running faster doesn't necessarily seem to lead to more injury, but the increased volume does, whether it's fast or slow. I'm not sure how to break that cycle except to keep running and work through the little nagging aches and pains. I also wanted to say thanks to everyone here in the group for their knowledge, support and candor over the past year, and particularly to Mitch for leading the charge. Endurance training can be a pretty lonely endeavor, and it's been a huge help to have a group to bounce ideas off and keep me accountable and motivated. Cheers to a happy and healthy 2016! Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All - happy New Year!! Hey Mitch are you planning on starting another mentor group for 2016? I need some motivation and accountability!! Mark |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All: I apologize for being absent in December. I see new mentor groups are starting. I am happy starting a new group but want to discuss further with the veterans of this group. In my opinion our group has gotten stale. Its not a criticism, just an observation that we have a core group that remains every season and other people come and go but don't stick. I'm unsure if its us, the sport in general or BT? So, if we start a new mentor group we need to come up with some new approaches and ideas or the alternative is the following: I honestly don't get much value out of BT.com anymore and I've moved my logging and planning to TrainingPeaks. I also log workouts on Strava just because. I believe most of us are on Strava. It is easy to set up a club on Strava and it then tracks your activities and time. You can also start discussions in the clubs to discuss latest happenings and questions, etc. What I'm wondering is does it make sense to move this group to Strava and let it monitor our activities as a group and then have discussions there? I'm open to the Teams thoughts on the subject. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Mitch, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the group and it was exactly what I needed to "TRY"! to stay consistent in my training to really build the habit. Unfortunately what we all saw was typical to a couple of the mentor programs that I took part in in the past -> lots of initial interest and big triathlon dreams but quickly people (resolutionists) start to drop like flies and its only the hard core or committed that stick with it long term. I do like BT but do find it a bit antiquated at times. I have started to log most of my stuff on Strava but I dont have the history going back to the beginning of my illustrious triathlon career that I do have here. If there was a way to dump all that BT data into Strava or TP I would certainly want to do that. I currently joined the Manatee group but it seems to be hyper extroverted which is kind of the opposite of me. I like this group and would switch back if you decided to run another group for 2016. I get your points. I have data here back to 2007, I think. At a certain point I just decided it didn't really matter and I started using Garmin as the main repository and then synced everywhere else I felt like it (Golden Cheetah, TrainingPeaks, Strava, SportTracks, etc.) I think I've tried them all. Can we get some other comments on my post and then we can find a way forward. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll follow you guys/gals where ever you go. I too need the accountability but I get that from you folks not websites. I will continue to use BT as I use it for my training; but I do have strava and Training peaks also if that where we decide to hold each other accountable. Mark. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't qualify as a veteran of the group but I'll offer my opinion anyway ![]() I don't currently use Strava but I do use Garmin and Training Peaks. I don't think TP has any sort of messaging feature (at least not in the free version) but I know in Garmin Connect you can create private groups with activity feeds for all the various activities that Garmin devices track. The obvious downside is that everyone has to be using a Garmin device to automatically sync, but you can manually enter activities if you don't use a Garmin. I think you can leave comments although I don't think it's quite the same as having a fully functional message board. I would imagine Strava is similar. I just downloaded the app to check it out. As a less exciting alternative we could always do a facebook group. |

It works very well. Strava bonus is that it logs total swim, bike and run times separately and in aggregate. Also can see each other's workouts and give each kudos along the way. I used to use the forums and like at BT a lot. I don't anymore. I read slowtwitch much more. |

I need to confess that I have been sort of "phoning in" my efforts to the group the last few months. The main reason I have held in here is because of the challenge. I always finish what I start and was planning on bowing out of the group after the 2015 challenge ended. I really like the idea of a Facebook Group along with a Strava Group. Strava would in effect replace the challenge and we communicate through Facebook. Might I suggest a new format even though I'm not a veteran here? Could we start a closed Facebook Group as suggested, closed because I don't want my "normal" friends getting aggravated by all my posts about triathlon and working out. We could use the new Strava group Mitch started and turn the challenge into a weekly challenge posting the results at the end of the week on the Facebook page. If we went to this format I would invite all of my STRAVA connections to the group on the premise that the group promotes success through consistency in our workouts as the tile of the group would suggest and you guys could do the same. I've done something similar on my local triathlon group and a lot of people are loving the competitiveness and social aspects of Strava and facebook. What do you guys think? Example of what I've posted on my local Triathlon group Facebook page. Edited by sawyer1206 2016-01-06 7:56 PM (BT.PNG) Attachments ---------------- BT.PNG (31KB - 34 downloads) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dennis: You are a vet. Accept it. I love your idea and I'm happy to arrange the closed facebook page. Those interested can still maintain their logs here. Just log workouts on Strava. I will set up closed Facebook group and post that link and the strava link here. You all should feel free to invite similar minded friends to join. We can also use the facebook page to post events that we may be doing or similar. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Two groups created: Both are named "Consistency Equals Success". One is on Strava and One is on Facebook. The Facebook one is a closed group so no one sees the posts but members. Let's give this a try. If you like you can email me at [email protected] and I will add you to each group or invite you.
