Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DDVMM - 2011-07-23 8:05 PM My first sprint is now in the books - It was SOOO HOT and the team I race with was highly recommending not racing. We decided to take it one transistion at a time and not race hard - no PR was planned. It was about 93 degrees at 8:00 when I started. Swim was good - I started at the back of the pack but soon found myself in the middle of the pack getting kicked and hit. Bike was a great course and the run was HOT. I just watched my HR and when it got too high I would walk a minute to get it down again to prevent overheating. I wished I could have really tested my training to see how fast I could go, but today was not the day. It was fun though!! Looking for my next one already! Thanks everyone for all your support!!
Congrats! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bummer!
Due to problems with the cell network capacity at the race site, live timing data is incurring a slight delay. Information will be posted as soon as the cell congestion improves.
Don't forget, Kelly is #152 |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a really good race. Thanks to everyone for watching. Was a 2 hour IM PR and a 45 minute open marathon PR. Winds were tough on the bike and the run was hot (especially the first loop). Had some back issues on the bike and some GI issues on the run, but otherwise everything was executed really well. Looking forward to IMFL and having another PR on a much easier course. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() After I finished we headed back to the finish line for hours 15 and 16. Such a great experience to be at an IM finish line at midnight. Today I'm pretty much just trying to not be in tons of pain and we're driving back to CT. Now I have an entire week off and then back to base the first week in August. How's everyone else doing? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great job Kelly! It was so exciting seeing you cross the finish. You looked very happy and strong! And what a PR! Training is going well for me. Starting to get into the final big weeks. I'm soooo tired. (You know what that's like.) I hope I can execute my race as well as you did and finish with enough energy to hang around and watch the excitement. I'd love a PR too, but will be happy to finish without blisters and an upset stomach. Have a safe trip back, and enjoy your week off. |

You've been super consistent, I think you'll be surprised at how well you do. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did a smallish local sprint yesterday. The company is slow to post the splits, but my time was 1:18. I was really strong in the swim (most likely 1st age group) and strong on the bike, but I suffered a bit on the run. 2nd place and 3rd place women in my age group passed me in the last .5 mile. Bah!!!! It was HOT - 95 without heat index. I had some serious GI issues going on and started the swim dehydrated. I'm still not feeling quite right. What do you all do when you're dealing with GI/stomach/dehydration problems during race weekend (this started on Saturday morning)? I'll post my splits when I have them. I had tons of family at the race cheering me on, so that made it the most fun ever |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 2 hour ride yesterday. Rode out to where my next race is and rode the course 2+ times. Flat, flat, flat with a donut shop right at the first turn around. The aroma is a bit distracting. Also there was an inaugural meeting of a tri club in my area. Have clubs about 30 minutes to the south and north but a huge void in my area. Was nice to meet a bunch of folks and see where this goes. I think I was the youngest there BTW. |

And more specifically, what do you do if you go into a race feeling fine, but start having upset stomach on the bike and/or run? How do you correct the situation? Endurolytes? Stop eating/drinking to let the stomach empty? Slow down? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly, congrats on an awesome finish. You deserved that PR and sounds like you had a great experience. You've inspired all of us more than you know. At least me anyway. Whether it be a sprint or an ironman, you've never made anyone feel inferior to your training volume. I appreciate that and I am sure others do as well. I have otherthings that motivate me but there's no doubt knowing I have to post my workouts for you to see is motivating in itself. Thank you for all your time. It was great to see all of your hard work pay off with a PR. Running a marathon itself is a huge task nevermind a 2.4 mile swim and 112 bike prior, both at respectable speeds. Great job. Up next for Ironman, I believe, is Karen. Yes we will be watching on Ironmanlive.com as well. It was cool to get those updates at a birthday party, on the phone. |

And more specifically, what do you do if you go into a race feeling fine, but start having upset stomach on the bike and/or run? How do you correct the situation? Endurolytes? Stop eating/drinking to let the stomach empty? Slow down? First Q: drink a coke, take some tums and suck it up best you can. I once played a football game with a 102 fever and occassional puking. Not fun, but i actually had a good game. Clearly it didnt effect you too much if you finished in 2nd place. Second Q: there is not much you can do. if you feel crappy eating/drinking/medicine wont do much. if you are sick you have to decide whether you can push through or DNF if you are worried about injury. If you are in a longer race and cannot stay hydrated you have to stop or you can get hurt. particualrly if it is hot and humid. No way you can do anything longer than about an hour or 2 without hydration in blazing heat like last week. |
