Anyone know anything of the Lazer (sp?) Did a mini tri tonight (not by choice)...2000 yd swim, 1:15 trainer, 25 minn z1 run (brick). Run was cut a bit short because I think I saw a fisher cat run out of the woods a bit ahead of me. It's kind of spooky running at night where I live. If you don't know what a fisher cat is, google it. They are mean suckers. I must be getting fit because my HR didn't even spike as I made my way home.
x2 on the "Like" Katie.
OMG. I googled Fisher Cats. Those are horrifying. That would be enough to send me to the treadmill forever. I'm serious. I'm super girly when it comes to creatures of the night and slimy things. No thank you. Fisher cats are scary. We live adjacent to a river and from time to time a fisher cat will take up residence for a while. In 2009 we lost two of our cats to a fisher cat. Plus if you think they look scary you should hear them scream. They scream???????? NO. NO. NO. Do you have to call animal control to get these beasts removed? That's truly frightening. I'm so glad we don't have those where I live. It is the most horrific sound one can imagine. the first time I heard it was a few years ago when I was camping in VT. I heard this eerie sound off in the distance, a scream, and it moved slowly throughout the night. If you have ever seen the Blair Witch Project, I was like one of the kids in the tent saying goodbye to my mommy. I had no idea what it was so I asked someone in town the next morning. They told me, I looked it up, and it freaked me out more. Check it out on Youtube. Speaking of eating....I try, and tend to, eat a lot, but I still wake up at night hungry and chow. I had my anual physical a few weeks ago and I lost 10 pounds simply to the training I have been doing. Ironically, my cholesterol level went up a bit I think because of all the eggs I have been eating since we got chickens. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Fisher cats are not to be toyed with. Picture a ferret the size of a badger that has the quickness, smarts and agility of a ferret but the strength of the badger and a nasty attitude of a yellow jacket. I'd much rather take on a larger animal like a coyote. Raccoons can be nasty too. |

Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Raccoons bit the heads off of two of our chickens shortly after we put them in the coop. The holes in the chicken wire were a bit too big; I later got smaller wire and no further problems. My daughter came running to me after school and said hey there is something wrong with the chickens. Just the heads were gone. Foxes take the chickens...Raccoons take the heads. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Running and biking I've run into deers, foxes, skunks, turkeys, swans, squirrels, coyotes, hawks and probably some I'm forgetting. I include a benign animal like a squirrel because twice they've almost run into the spokes on my front tire and I'd have to imagine that would do some damage bare minimum and I'd be likely to crash and get hurt. I include the hawk because I was running with my IPOD on and he swooped me from behind coming over the top of my head by feet. It was actually really cool because I was on a long straight section of road and he just glided for several hundred yards before taking off. It didn't scare me at all and was rather relaxing. The turkey packs around here are nuts. I've run by them constantly but riding by them is scary because like the squirrels you have no idea which way they'll go. I've run by deers in the woods many time but once there was one standing on the yellow line in the middle of the road. I came to a complete stop and my friend said why did you stop and not go around him? Because one of those hit my car once and the car lost so I'm not taking it on. He eventually took off to the side of the road we would have passed him on. A skunk came out from behind some trash when I was running with a headlight on at 5AM and scared the crap out of me. The swan I mention because he was on this small pond up against the road and I took the corner on my bike and I scared him and he scared me. He hissed and spread his wings which had to be 12-14ft across. The coyotes and foxes I actually saw way in advance and have avoided them. There's a red fox I see a lot down by the marshes and he must be hunting bird's nests down there. He notices me and goes the other direction. |

They are when you're driving back roads to a race at 5AM half asleep and a family runs out in front of your car. |

We have a very large harem near the house with one male and close to a dozen females. Shaun has nicknamed the male "Pimp Wing." Wild turkeys are scarier than you think, they can get up to 60 mph and cause some serious damage. |

We have tons of turkeys too and as I have happened upon them a few have taken flight and perched up in one of the evergreens. It is kinda funny....sort of like a big bowling ball flying. Strange seeing them in a tree though. |

The can go straight up into a tree 40 feet up pretty quickly too. I think the ones around here are so used to people they're not afraid or aggressive. I've run by the harem and they look at me but really aren't aggressive. I was running with a single turkey last week where he was on one side of the road and I was on the other and I was talking to him asking if he thought he could take me in a 5K, LOL. He eventually took off into the woods but we were parallel for a good 50 yards. |
