Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have about 20 weeks before my HIM in January. What programs have others used. Last time I used one from BT on the gold level so i could change the days of my workout etc which is good. Is there others around that are good as well?? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1 hour run today. Matthew - In terms of selecting a HIM plan, I did the BT beginner plan last year (which for me made sense as it was second season racing and had never gone that distance before). The plan will get you across the finish line, but it has its limitations (not enough time in the saddle). There is also a disproportionate amount of swimming - which I needed as I was very weak and fearful of the swim. Before you select a plan, determine how much time you have to commit to training and how many workouts you can effectively cram into a week. This year I used the gold BT plan and created my own schedule. I found the program to be good, but it still required some tweaking as the variability of workouts is limited and the workouts can get repetitive quickly. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Folks, Just a shout to let you all know that I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'm back from vacation and have been crazy busy the last few days. Spent a good deal of time while I was away thinking about my training and what I really want to do as far as this sport goes and came to the realization that I'm probably training for the wrong events. My plans for the rest of this year are changing and I think I'm pretty much done with Tri's for a while (after the Oly in 2 weeks). I've decided that the time I got to spend running trails while I was on vacation is really what I enjoy about the endurance sports. Swimming has always been fun in the pool for me, but I really don't like open water swimming. Biking has always been a distraction from my other training, something that I have to do rather than what I want to do. So I'm going to drop the HIM I had planned for next month and refocus on my marathon in Oct followed by an Ultra this winter. Still want to be a part of the group cause you guys are certainly inspiring me to keep up with the training so keep posting all those workouts Andy! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 6.5 mile run this morning, training plan called for 5.5, I was shooting for 6, and my route was longer than I thought. Now to carve out some time this afternoon in the pool. And to rest the legs for a long ride tomorrow.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am happy so far with my BT plans, being able to customize it to my strengths and weaknesses is great. That costs a gold membership, but I think it's worth it just to support everything I've gotten out of this site. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Last night was a tough one with our baby, so today only a 7.5 mi. run at lunch. On another note, I'm bummed out that my Garmin 910XT started malfunctioning last week (vibration mode not working for the alerts, battery readings all over the place) so now I have to send it back to Garmin to see if they send me a replacement unit. It's incredible how dependent one gets on having access to your workout data at all times. Andy S 3/B 6/ R 5 Rest 0 Total 14 Time 16:33:22 100+% |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 34' recovery run with my new Kinvara 3. Loved the 2s and 3s are equally nice. A year ago I was running in Kayanos and having all kinds of foot pain. Going with a more minimal shoe has made a big difference. As much as it pains me to see my name so far down on this list - I gotta say that single sport training is a nice mental break.

Agreed Joe. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Agreed. I think there is something to teaching your body to run when tired, but that's a lot different than running when your legs are trashed. If I feel good after a long run, I have built the flexibility into my schedule to do a short run or swim. |
