Here is a link to my latest blog about this past weekend's tri in case anyone is interested. Not an official BT race report but I think it tells the story pretty well.

still have a month or so left to our races, so I will probably drop a question or a comment on my training every now and then!

I hope you do. I will for sure be around and happy to help/support/hear you vent!

I will be serving up some IM perform or powergels at an aid station

Heh! Speaking of which I made an executive decision to not stop and mix a bottle around mile 90 knowing my bike was going slower then planned so I grabbed 2 bottles of perform. (Yes, I know risky, but it worked out in this case) but all they had was the yellow (lemon-lime?) version. Oh man is that flavor nasty!

Next year no mixing bottles for me. Just Nuun in the speedfil and will concentrate the Infinite.

I hope to get a chance to meet up with you at IMMOO in 2011. I suspect you will be serving up some significant vengence to that course

You know it! Look forward to watching your blur run/bike by me.

PennState -

Off-season training is something I really like. Fewer hours, but still pretty consistent.

I am not sure the goal of off season training? What is the difference to normal consistant SBR training?

I actually don't mind the IM Perform drink and the powergels.  I guess after eating Navy food over the years I can stomach just about anything.

One complaint with the gels is that they seem to provide the flavors which don't sell very well.  Appears as though they are getting rid of their excess stock.  The more popular flavors were non-existant on the course.  I found this to be the case at IM Racine 70.3 as well.

I've never had the Perform but is it really that bad?  People on here and st are acting as if its undrinkable and has zero use on the course.

BTW, Pete and Ken still have their A races in 2 months, I don't think its really fair to pack in the group until they're done (not that they need us)!

Question for the group; I may have to work the day before IMAZ, is there a mandatory check in for volunteers the day prior?

PennState - 2010-09-26 10:34 AM Good 3+ hour cross ride yesterday and a 10 mile run today.

Anybody else training at all?

Have a great day

Sounds like a fun day on the cross bike!!

Med/long run yesterday and a short recovery run this morning.  Heading back to CA for the remainder of my training.  Shipped the tri bike out on Friday so hopefully I'll have that by mid week.  Road bike till then.  I still need to find a suitable swimming solution, but I have a couple of ideas.

My husband is a volunteer firefighter and so we went to NYC to do the Tunnel to Towers 5k www.tunneltotowersrun.org (I think).  I would HIGHLY recommend doing this race, just get there early.  It was an expensive fee for a 5k ($50) but it included a t-shirt and tons of food post race.  It was a really awesome tribute to the men and women who died on 9/11, have died serving in the War on Terror and those currently protecting our country.  We ran through the Battery Tunnel on the way to Ground Zero and I was sweating my azz off in shorts and a tank top... there were fire fighters wearing all of their gear in memory of the firefighter that the race was organized in memory of. I can't imagine how hot those guys were!!!  It can be emotional, like when they ring a huge bell in memory of people, but then it's really neat to run through the tunnel and along the water and see where the Freedom Tower is being constructed. =)

Hey Ken,
How did you ship your bike? Did you use Fedex or UPS?  I am planning on shipping my bike to FL in November but have never done it before.
Thanks,
Kathleen

Seeing and participating in that event has to be very inspirational! Nice race!!

Subject: Stretching Exercises
Last year was my first year doing Triathlons.  I have biked on and off over the years and did some entry level road racing about 15-20 years ago.  That fitness has long since departed.  My job requires me to maintain fitness and I have kept in good overall shape over the years, but I have dropped about 20 pounds since starting triathlons.  I was in a mentor group last year and it really paid dividends. The group helps me to stay focused and accountable to others.

My business is in transportation and I had one of our company vehicles to put it on.  But in the past I have used both UPS and Fed Ex to ship the bike.  The biggest key is packaging it so it is safe.  Price wise they are going to be about the same in most cases, but the schedule might not be.  So check that out.  Do you have your own case?  I have one now because I travel a lot, but I have gotten boxes from my bike shop that the bike originally came in (or one similar).

Let me know how you make out.

PennState - 2010-09-27 8:22 AM Ken, how are you finding the late season IM training? ie; is it hard to keep this up as we enter fall? Has it prolonged your season in a positive or negative way?

Just curious.

Good question, I was thinking the same thing when I was contemplating IM AZ next year.  It would be hard to get in bike miles as the daylight hours are rapidly shrinking.  Are you planning on some serious trainer time?
