Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GARMIN QUESTION: I uploaded my workouts from this morning. My run was separated into 4 activities because calibrated the footpod by running 800M three times and then did my interval workout as a 4th activity. Only the 1st 800M showed up with map data on Garmin Connect. The last 2 800M activities and the interval workout all showed up without map data on garmin connect. Other programs that I upload to also don't show any mapping data. Anyone ever experience this before? Solution? Thanks! |

I normally drink soy chocolate milk as a recovery drink, and was wondering what (if any) advantages a whey drink would provide. I just hit 190 lbs (down from 208), and feel that this is a good weight for me, although I would like to start some strenght program in the future with a focus on arms and chest. |

![]() Jen and Scott I hope your son is recovering. I do not think there is anything more emotionally stressful than when our children are not well. Hopefully, your son will get the care he needs and have a full recovery.

![]() | ![]() Thanks for asking Ernesto. I still read everything. Been very busy and was traveling. Just got back from AZ. Starting a little taper for a half marathon on Saturday. I want to go all out so I have a good way of estimating a marathon pace. Going to try for 1:34. Is anyone else racing this weekend? |

How's the course? Weather?Course is pretty much same as my January half but in reverse. Out and back on river road in st. Paul but this time starting upriver, running downstream and then back instead of the other way around. Probably a bit downhill at beginning and uphill at end, just like other race. Weather forecast: probably 58f at 8:00 am. Humid. (81%) 10 mph wind from south, so into wind at start, mostly sideways in middle and at back at end. will wear very few clothes. (shorts and sleeveless shirt). |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen, I'm sorry to hear about your son. I have him in my thoughts, and I hope that he makes a swift recovery. I've been a little flakey about updating the challenge recently. I've had a challenging week, between studying for an exam at work on Tuesday, and fitting in the training. Training is going well. Monday was my rest day, and Tuesday Kevin and I ran together. Went for my first "real" group ride yesterday with the local University club. We rode in a pack for most of the flat bits, with the group leader ensuring regular rotation at the front. It was really good fun. On their website they describe the mid-week ride as an "easy spin", but from my perspective it was a harder pace than I would normally ride, with some really challenging hills (2800ft of climbing in less than 40 miles). I was really pleased I managed to keep up with the group, although they did have to wait for me at the top of the hills. I got home and realised that my legs wouldn't be up to the track session in the evening, so I went for an easy brick run. After that yesterday went downhill horribly. Kevin got a phone call from his Dad saying that the paramedics were there because his Mum had stopped breathing. They live in the next village, so we went straight round, but unfortunately despite the paramedic's best efforts, she passed away. - Joe P S 6/ B 8/ R 7 Total = 21; 23:29:05" |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Day off work today so committed to a long ride. Went for 3hrs and did around 80kms. Was spent when I got back home and still very sore. All the way home had a strong head wind. 2nd gear 10-15kmph. Picked up my bike yesterday. Have not been riding it as yet need to change the pedals around and have a bike fit booked for Tuesday. Wish I was fitted already as it would have been easier handling the wind. Sorry to hear about the lost Rachel and Kevin. Al the best dealing with it and when you need a little time go for a run or ride to clear your mind. - Joe P S 6/ B 8/ R 7 Total = 21; 23:29:05" - Gabe S 5 / B 7/ R7; Total = 19; 27:05:35 - Mitch: S 3 / B 6 / R 9; Total = 18; 13:44:08" - Rachel S 5 / B 5 / R 7; Total = 17; 22:24:43" - Matthews: S 6 / B 5 / R 6; Total = 17; 16:10:00 - Jackie S 7/B 4/R 5; Total 16; 19:17:21 - Jim S 0 / B 8 / R 8; Total = 16; 12:17:31 - Kev: S 3/B 5/R 6; Total = 14; 17:41:29 - MarkZ: S 2 / B 6 / R 6; Total = 14; 16:03:00" - Charlotte S 3/ B 6/ R 5; Total =14; 7:55:00 - Chris S 0 / B 1 / R 12; Total = 13; 18:28:42 - Jennie S 4 / B 3/ R 5; Total = 12; 9:33:06 - Samy S 4 / B 4/ R 4; Total = 12; 9:39:28 - Scott S 2 / B 3 / R 5; Total = 10, 8:23:52 - Mark H S 0 / B 2 / R 2 ; Total = 4; 2:30:0 - Ernesto S 0 / B 0 / R 4; Total = 4; 2:22:34" - Joe S 0/B 0/ R 3; Total = 2; 02:15:46 Edited by Matthews 2012-03-15 6:47 AM |

Tomorrow morning will have a short 3 miler through the neighborhood. If works right tomorrow I will not worry. It worked great on my 3 miler this morning. No idea why it acted up yesterday. The footpod only becomes a measurement tool if you lose GPS signal (Don't think I would have lost GPS at the track)???. Otherwise it counts cadence and if selected provides current pace information. The interesting thing is that even with the footpod being set for current pace the watch utilizes GPS for average pace (lap and total). I like this as it allows me to contrast current pace to average pace (recognizing that the GPS could also provide current pace but have read current pace from GPS is very volatile). As for the watch in total. I love it and I'm very happy with the switch from Polar to Garmin. I love having the extra bike data (speed and cadence file). I like the large array of data fields to choose from for all three activities. The swimming is real benefit. The ability to look at a workout and see each lap, strokes, efficiency, etc. is great. Now I just have to find time to look at the data and think about my swim sets and where I focused on certain technique issues. If one is serious about triathlon and has the money available I think it is a great training tool. |

As for Justin, we may need to take him to Denver for the Dr... Won't know for sure for another week or so... The positive side is that id it was a brain disease the docs feel that there would be more personality changes then what we have seen. His symptoms right now are simply 12 year old boy behavior. His old football coaches asked his to come by and see them, they called when he wasn't on the Spring roster..... |
