I did sign up for my A race and then filled my calendar with whatever races I wanted to do, so I felt you were speaking to me, too, Kelly.  Only blessing was that I knew how I felt toward the end of last season, so I only signed up for 5 triathlons/1 HM.  My season last summer was ridiculous for a beginner.  2 races too many, and I ended up not touching my bike for 2 months and not swimming for 3 after my last race in Sept.  I'll be asking for help planning my next season

I want to take 2 weeks off after Cedar Point.....just walking with my kiddies, cycling with my oldest for fun, etc.  Like Karen, I really want to get into strength training and yoga in the fall.  I feel like my cardiovascular system is strong, but the strength of my leg muscles fails me sometimes.

I was talking to several people.  You don't get faster when you train.  You get faster when you recover.

This is true.  Always a lesson I've had a hard time with.  It's why I need a coach, a plan, something to keep me from myself.

Thanks Kelly! I will workout a schedule then based on that and see what happens. I am paying to go 2-3 times a week for swimming so I will try to keep it there and just continue to work on form and learn fly and breast.

That's how I feel too Scott. If I'm working out I make better food choices. If I'm not I eat like crap! I can gain weight so easily, its scary.

I guess it's almost been a week, so what's one more week??? i really want o take my dog trail running tomorrow. How about an easy walk jog Kelly? Or a swim? Something?

We are home!!! I'm so glad to be out of that car. It looks like the car vomited its contents out into our living room though.

REST!  Seriously.

If you want to take the dog for an easy walk, fine.  You pounded your body day in and day out for over a year.  It need a little time to heal.

I also need a coach and a plan to keep me from myself. Affording one is another thing. The wife wouldn't be too happy with another residual triathlon bill.

Thanks Jen!!!I went and took a look at some of the course and the bike you have to run up a hill to mount, then a small down hill into a major uphill. I tell you what 1500m on a lake looks a lot longer than doing 1500 in a pool haha!

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

My race report is posted in the Race Report Section (hey hey). I don't know how to link it here but I'll try.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=454214&posts=1&start=1

It's kind of personal at the end (Kelly knows) which was hard because I'm a pretty private person. But I felt like it needed to be included since it played a big part in my race.

There's a whole lot more I could have added, such as nutrition (or lack of), scary descents, almost being hit by a car, but I didn't want it too long.

Anyway it's there if you're interested in reading.

I posted this under your race report but wanted to put it here too.  **edited to add - I hope you don't mind.  If you want me to keep it under the race reports, let me know and I will delete!

You did a fantastic job, Karen.  14 hours is amazing!  I'm am so very proud of all the hard work you put into your season.  It paid off.  I know you struggled with several issues over the course of the race, but to us it looks like it came together nicely.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing.  It's obvious you love her very, very much, and she would be proud of what you accomplished last weekend.  Many prayers and thoughts for you and your family.

As I told you before, given the circumstance, I think you did a FANTASTIC job.  You have a sub 13 in you and you'll get it.

Karen- I am so sory to hear about the passing of your mother. What difficult circumstances to even think about racing, but given the circumstances, what a fantastic job you did. Please take your time to rest and recover. I love the hawk reference- no doubt your mom was proudly looking down on you.

So I have a question on strength training (Scott, Kelly, anyone)

I'm thinking about ordering "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" but wanted opinions. From the reviews, and a blogger I follow that uses the book, it sounds like a good plan. Basically it says a woman shouldn't strength train any different than a man. No light weights, heavy weights, progressively getting heavier as the plan progresses.

Does anyone know anything about this book? I want something I can follow and this seems like a good option. Opinions? Other books/plans I should look at?
