Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED 2500 in the pool this morning with TTs. I felt strong. I got really great sleep last night because I didn't take my allergy medication (moved to mornings), and I think that helped. Off to do a ZR/1 ride. I'm catching up on Game of Thrones during my ride |

My first 3 hour ride was Saturday, on the trainer. Whew that was tough. Felt good to know I could go that long and the legs still felt good. It is Top Gear for me on the trainer right now. Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED So I got the flu from my daughter and have been in bed a couple of days. It is odd, but I feel guilty for not having been able to train...sort of out place...like a blob. But as I am doing work in bed, I check the results from the Boston Marathon to see how a couple of folks I know did and that is a sickening reality check. Thoughts and prayers. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Hey guys. Rough day for me yesterday. I was about a block from the finish line when the explosions went off in Boston and spent the next two hours trying to account for all of my runners (I was the Hartford Track Club bus mom). We had two runners literally cross at the time of the explosion. We didn't find our last runner until about 4:30 p.m. and then we had to walk out of Boston to find out bus. When we got back to CT there were several TV crews waiting for us. Really overwhelming stuff. |

I must be cutting my fuel way to short, right? or is it water? Cadence was good, speed was slow, a few hill (5,000 of climbing total), HR was low - legs hated it post ride You're a fast guy, Todd. You're going to do well at LP. You still have some of your most important training weeks ahead where you can work on the hill climbing. Once you're done with the training, you'll just have to have faith that you did enough. Kelly has done LP a couple times so maybe she can chime in about the hills and run. |

We had two runners literally cross at the time of the explosion. We didn't find our last runner until about 4:30 p.m. and then we had to walk out of Boston to find out bus. When we got back to CT there were several TV crews waiting for us. Really overwhelming stuff. I'm glad everybody you know is OK relatively speaking. It was a really long day for me as well. I knew over 30 runners, several volunteers and my oldest daughter and her soccer team took pictures right in front of where the first bomb went off a half hour before it did. They were luckily in a restaurant on Newbury when the bomb went off and the parents contacted me before I had heard of the bomb because I was at work and before they disabled cell service. From there communication was bad. They had to walk from Newbury to South Station and took a train to JFK station just to get out of the city not knowing there was a fire there that turned out to be unrelated. They finally got off another train in Braintree a few hours later and called us. To say it was a long couple of hours is an understatement. Yesterday Facebook and Twitter were valuable and not a time sync for the first time. We were getting updates from people constantly but didn't have confirmation on everybody until almost 7PM. If you watch the video of the first bomb going off there's a runner who turns to see what happened as she crosses the line and then checks her Garmin. She's run many races with me. Another woman volunteering saw both bombs go off. At least a dozen people didn't finish because of this that I know. Two hitchhiked out of the city to Braintree and called family from there to pick them up. Others had family at the finish line and borrowed cell phones to arrange meeting spots. So nobody I know personally was physically injured. A woman I know who lost her daughter in a dorm fire at BU not two miles from the bombs had another daughter working at the Capital Grille right where a bomb went off. She was one of the people bringing out towels and ice to the rescue workers. A fireman I know was one of the rescue workers. I talked to him this morning at the Y. He said their were body parts everywhere. He gave CPR to a young Chinese woman who was a student at BU and she lost her leg and he doesn't know if she made it but doesn't think so. I don't know the 8 year old boy who greeted his dad at the finish line and then ran back to his mother as the bomb went off by my heart breaks for them. The wife isn't doing well at all either. Just sick to my stomach over it and I mean that literally. |

I think this is everyone's issue. There is not answer to real question -- why, which may never be answered or never be answered in a satisfactory way. Unfortunately there are people in this world who are sick and selfish and hateful. These people are the tiny minority but sometimes their actions can speak quite loudly. Some things are unexplanable. All we can do is be the best people we can possibly be and let those individuals know that they're not going to win. |

Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I went on a 25 minute run this morning. Aside from a 1 hour Z1 ride on Sunday, this is the first exercise I've had in 10 days. I took it easy, and felt ok during the run, though I think the meds I'm on pushed my heart rate up a little. When I finished, though, I had a big coughing attack that wasn't any fun. The doctor says the problem is a combination of allergies and a sinus infection. I'm still planning on doing my race May 5, but may have to, um, reevaluate my performance goals. |
