Ok what is the secret?

After my swim today, I went to the end of the lane and practiced somersaulting in the water as a precursor to flip turns.

No water up the nose as I exhaled the whole time, but every time I did a flip I wound up facing the lane line, and my left shoulder was facing the wall I should be pushing off on.

No I did not try to plant my feet on the wall yet. That would be step two, if I ever wound up facing the right way.

Knees to chest! Tuck into a little ball and do a forward roll. I'd get away from the wall and practice the forward roll, then move up closer to the wall once you're comfortable with that.

Have you seen this video?

I saw a new pic of my self from last night and I thought I would see about starting something for the group. If you have a pic or even better a before and after or in the middle pic as I am posting. I like to be able to know what people look like as I build relationships.

Before Picture approx 360 lbs

Getting there approx 290 lbs

Man does my daughter have a great fake smile or what.

My wife says I have to post a pic without my jacket to fully show off my hotness (ok I added the hotness part)

Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with the fatigue from the heat? I'm starting to feel that the daily training is taking it's toll and I'm wondering if the hot/humid weather is contributing.

Thanks for the help. 14 weeks until race day.

Yes heat and humidity will lead to fatigue. If you have a heart rate monitor, you will see that your heart rate is way higher doing the same pace in heat and humidity than it is when it is cooler. Which means your body is working much harder, even though you are going at your normal speed.

All you can do it take it slower, or go inside and run on a treadmill, or train early or late in the day when it is cooler.

It is better to go slow and get the miles in, rather than blow off the workout.

I had a pretty bad bout of heat exhaustion once, and ever since then I just don't handle heat well. If I have to go out in the heat, I make sure I have a lot of cold sports drink on hand - gatorade endurance and e-load are my favorites because of the extra salt - as well as water.

Most people go through an acclimatization period, and when you're training you're going to be carrying around some fatigue anyway - recovery from which is what makes us better. I'd keep lots of drink on hand, and give it some time. If it's just unbearable, then try to start earlier/later when it's cooler, or head inside.

Be careful with the heat & humidity. We just finished a 3 sport workout but started early. My favorite way to deal w/the heat when starting the run:stuff ice down my bra. Feels great!

Seriously, wear a visor, sunglasses, carry water.

Along with Babs idea on ice, you can put ice in a plastic baggy and stuff it in your running hat.

25 percent of your heat loss is your head, so keeping it cool helps.

Also a cool moist towel on the back of your neck helps a lot.

You can buy running hats that look like French Foreign Legion hats. It has flats that come down and cover your neck.

Underarmor makes cool gear for keeping cool in the heat, they also make something called coolwings what are two lightweight wicking sleeves and shouler cover. Supposed to keep you cooler than bare skin.

I don't know about her race, but if something is wrong with the water, tri's often get changed to Du's.

Water level can get too low, water can get polluted from rain run off, threat of lightning, unsafe currents or waves are too big for safety.

yep - there was no water so it turned into a duathlon.

Just bought a wetsuit and took it for a spin in our ice water pools out here. HOLY CR@@@P that was cold. I did get adjusted but at first I wanted to hold my breath under water - I had to force myself to concentrate and breathe out each stroke.
The suit fits well but it's still more constricting in the arms than no suit at all. Consequently my arms felt fatigued sooner than usual.
My stroke is getting really good in the pool, but today it felt like I was starting to learn to swim from scratch.
I'm thinking of a tri this weekend - in cold water of course- so I wanted to get used to it....wonder if I ever will

How to put on a wet suit.

Note the part about no wrinkles in the armpits so you get better arm movement.

I haven't posted much, but I have been checking out the BT site regularly, reading this thread often and training for my first Tri in early August.

Tiny, I can relate to the journey your are on, I traveled it too.  My heaviest (that I know of) was 365 and I am currently around 205 - 210.

I could not figure out how to post pictures in my post, but you can check them out in my album.

Dude those pics rock. That is an awesome transformation. I the best part is having the pics with your daughter(?) that is one of the big reasons I am so fired up to get healthy. I want to grow old with my kids and wife and I want them to want to be healthy becasue I have shown them how and why.

Agreed.

I was reading a blog the other day from a guy that's hitting 40, and working up his life plan for the next 40 years that will take him to 80.

Framing it that way made me really think about what I need to do to give me the best odds for being in my son's life for the next 40 years.

Thanks, it took lots of dedication and hard work, but if can do it, so can you.  Yep, that is my daughter, she just turned 5.

You hit the nail on the head - lead by example!  Keep up the good fight.

I am in my minivan with my family on the road to the Great State of Oklahoma. Lee you have any time this week to hook up for coffee or something? We will be here until next Friday night.

We have our bikes and are planning on doing a lake swim at Clearcreek Lake near Duncan OK where her parents live and then jump on the bike for a nasty hill work out. The lake is surrounded with great little hills not very long but very steep and plentiful. Then Friday we are trying to figure out like a 30 or so mile bike ride probably starting in Piedmont from my grandmothers house.

My cell phone is 703-463-1084 if you have time I would love to meet and chat if we get the chance.
