In other news, did I tell y'all this yet? My muddy buddy wants to be a triathlete now too! Maybe she will sign up on BT soon, in the meantime she's signing up for a Sept tri which I'll do too!

That's so cool, Cynthia! Is this the See Jane Tri? I was wondering if you'd be able to talk her into it after Muddy Buddy! I'm sorry you're still sick. That really does suck. If it helps, I've raced twice now with a cold, and I barely noticed it while I was racing (before and after, ugh). It's a bit...messy, but doable. Feel better!

My first tri was at the end of a stomach flu.  During the race was the first time in that week that I felt good.  So, maybe the race will be a nice rest from the cooties for you

I'm SICK of coughing.  It's a "productive" cough but oh so annoying.  I'm sure the dust at muddy buddy did not help either.  I'm going to bed early and taking training easy - but I don't want to NOT train and find myself rusty come race day.   Hmm, maybe I'll set the 3yo up with a video (unheard of in our home) and go ride the trainer for whatever length that gives me; she'll be thrilled with the treat!  I'm sure it's a right stale-heat-pit in the garage right now, perfect for training!

And yes Erin, See Jane Tri in Pleasanton in Sept.  You signed up? I gotta send my dough.

Ahhh, the good ole dvd player.  It's an awesome way to get something accomplished in a pinch.  Works oh so well when they don't get to watch it very often.  I took my 4 yo to see Kung Foo Panda this weekend.  In the end, it was a little violent, but you would have thought I gave the kid the world.  I love their innocence and how every little thing just amazes them

It's probably not a bad idea to do a little bit of working out over the next week, just remember, you're not going to gain *or* lose any fitness before your race. You've done some great, consistent training, and whatever you do now is more mental than anything. So jump on the trainer if you can, but don't overdo it!

I haven't signed up for See Jane Tri yet, but I'm about 95 percent sure I'll be doing it. We'll see how I feel after tomorrow!

I've been feeling a bit under the weather myself but finally went for a light run this morning. I didn't want to do nothing either. I even set my watch for walk breaks but I didn't use them I really enjoyed the run and felt much better for it. Take it easy and you may find it pick you up.

BTW I've always wanted to know this and was never surebut-What are cooties? We don't use that term in Australia but see it in heaps of movies. That's my dumb question for the month.

Germs. Often imaginary, like boys think girls have cooties; and girls think boys have cooties. Great question!

Hi everyone.  I ended up taking a rest day today and will hopefully get out on the bike tomorrow for 50-60 minutes.

It was an interesting day to say the least.  You will likely see reports of the earthquake and aftershocks in Japan.    We're not at the epicenter which experienced Magnitude 7.2 per the English language news.  That 7.2 equates to a 6+ on whatever scale they use here in Japan and where I am, it was a 5+.   Needless to say, it was a frightening experience and I'm glad we were not at the epicenter.  Our house held up well - it has experienced two stronger quakes a couple years back.  Fortunately, I was traveling for one of those and both my wife and I were in England during the other one.

Hope you're all having a great weekend and cranking out lots of miles, meter, kilometers, etc.

Dan

I'm so glad you are well after that. Brace yourself for the aftershocks. They seem to never end after a quake like that. We had 18 aftershocks in a couple of days after our last big one, and it gets unnerving. You can hear them roar in like a train, and then they rattle through. Have you felt any yet?

June Challenge Team Standings - Week #2

Can you believe that June is already 50% finished? Here's how the teams stack up after the second week:

FIRST PLACE - Kamikaze Geckos - 41.6%
SECOND PLACE - Avatar Avengers - 36.7%
THIRD PLACE - Cheesecake Lovers - 36.6%
FOURTH PLACE - Totally Nutty Triathletes (TNT) - 24.4%

Congratulations to the KAMIKAZE GECKOS!

BUT June is only halfway finished - we still have 15 more days to go! So remember - if you don't MOVE IT this month, your team is likely to LOSE IT!

Need a reminder of what happens at the end of June?

The winning team(s) will display a signature line: "My team won the June Challenge!"

All other (losing) teams will display an avatar of something that SHOULD have made them move more!
This could be your shoes (ie: you should have run more), or your bike (ie: you should have biked more), or your bathing suit (ie: you should have swam more), or.... etc.

Avatars and signature lines will be displayed for the month of July. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it.

- Dee

I live in Southern California, so I know earthquakes and aftershocks all too well. They are unnerving!

I updated my stuff on the spread sheet.  I'm already over my goal for cycling, and I suspect that will keep going up.

Now I just need to focus on the running and make sure I don't get too far behind in that.  And, of course, the swimming and core workouts.  Yikes!

Hey everyone.  I couldn't log my workouts before the deadline but they are there now for the next week :-)

I went up to New Hampshire this weekend to ride the bike course of Timberman.  It was nice. I also did one loop of the run course and some open water swimming in the lake. Awesome weekend

When I was putting in my data in the spreadsheet I changed Dcon's bike #'s.  I think I changed back correctly. I'm sorry.

Hi everyone.

Heidi & Jocelyn:  Aftershocks....yep, had quite a few of those especially in the 2-3 hours after the quake.  Still getting some today.   Near the epicenter, they've had over 200.  I  guess I've felt about 20.  Definitely unnerving.   They are now saying that at the epicenter, it was the strongest quake ever in Japan.  Good thing the epicenter was not in the middle of a large city.  Nevertheless, the damage is staggering in the rural areas around the epicenter.

Madcat: way to go on the cycling!!

Carrie: Updated my numbers again a few minutes ago so all are correct.

Wahoo, I just had my longest ride ever, 41 miles! I've been intrepid about going down the other side of this particular hill, because I feared coming back up on my way home. Today I did it! I had to use ALL of my gears, but I made it back up that hill.

Of course, now I won't be able to walk tomorrow.

Congratulations! That's a fantastic accomplishment!

I'm doing OK on my goals -- I'm a little behind on all but the bike, but not so far behind that I won't be able to finish. We're all looking pretty great. Go, team!

I have my first "real" tri this Saturday.  I did a mini tri (100yd/2.5mi/1.2mi) in April; this weekend is a sprint.  I'm asking for y'all to inspire me these next coupla days.   I would like the mental propping up.

With me (and the kids) having colds the past month, my training fell a little lighter than I would have liked, but is still decently solid for the sprint length.  Mostly I had more rest days a few weeks but overall my volume when I worked out was still close to/at/above the plan.  Certainly I will not DNF unless there's something out of my control.  I don't think I'll be DFL.

But a little pep talk for the swim would be nice.  and some encouragement to pace myself so I can run every step of the 5K.  "Doing well" in this race to me means swimming slow-n-steady and then running every step.  I've trained. I'm ready for it, but my brain is not yet there.  Come Saturday morning I hope to have aligned it on MY TEAM so I'll talk myself through any rough waters (due to the masses not the water itself, a calm lake) and remind myself to slow my pace on the run so I WILL RUN the whole thing; I do not NEED to walk if I'm mentally there.

So if any of you Avengers have some positive thoughts to share, I'm happy to read them!  Help me meet my goals of a smooth swim and a no-walking run.   The bike is mostly flat, I'm comfy on my new roadie and will do fine.

A second goal (beyond the "slow-n-steady wins the race" would be to beat my hubby's time, that'd be icing on the cake.  We might contrive to start the same wave, he's a faster swimmer, I should have a better bike time, but overall he has the mental fortitude to PUSH PUSH PUSH and finish strong despite his poor training.  Dunno if having him in the same wave would help or not

Today is June 19th, and the month is now 64% finished. Are YOU achieving your goals???? Well, here's a little EXTRA INCENTIVE FOR YOU.....

You may now achieve 110% of your individual goals!

For example:
Your swim goal may now reach 110%
Your run goal may now reach 110%
Your bike goal may now reach 110%
Your "other" goal may now reach 110%

What does this mean?
- If you want to give yourself an extra push and challenge yourself this month --> GO FOR IT!
- If you have a teammate who is lagging --> Here's your chance to HELP YOUR TEAM!

Each individual goal will be capped at 110%. (In other words, you can't do 125% of a goal.) This means that you could, conceivably, reach a "super achiever" 110% total.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and do some training!

- Dee

Wahoo! I am at 86% and headed into my rest week, sorta. We have a big Bible Conference at our church next week. We feed three meals a day to a couple hundred visitors and our own church family. The only part of my life that will be 'resting' is my training. I am cutting back to about 60% for next week.

A whole bunch of us are nearing completion on some of our goals. Way to Go! and Keep It Up!
