It helps to see where everyone else is at. Even if there isn't a science to it (we're all different). I see (and already knew - but this confirms) I need to pick it up on the swim big time, and on the bike a bit. The run is only where it's at because I ran a marathon in January. The "free brick weekend" this weekend should help me out there with a Fri and Sat swim, and a 70-mile ride on Sat.

I only got 30-mins on the trainer last night before mechanical problems set in, so...

My 2009 Totals
swim: 6:47:00 - 11.0 miles
bike: 42:51:05 - 733.5 miles
run: 76:29:39 - 470.6 miles

I know you asked me about his before...but I realized this is the weekend of the Menominee River Century.  My fam usually all head out there and do the ride every year.  Not sure what the plans are this year, but if we dont go Ill head down to madison.

this is only acceptable if the yams clan is all on the same bike and you are the only one pedaling.

Thanks!  I'm hoping that 6800+ is accurate......I've been working on my hills, my new mother's-day-garmin is keeping track of my climbs, and 6800 is doable!!!  I saw the topo map, but short of counting on my fingers and figuring out REALLY small increments, I was hoping there was a total posted feet somewhere!!   16 weeks!!!!

Well, doing some checking and getting the following info (and I think one those included the WHOLE route), and my Garmin info -

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/invitation/accept.mb?view=dashboard&key=MTkyODI1
Elevation Gain (ft) +2,695 / -2,696

http://stanford.wellsphere.com/endurance-training-article/ironman-wisconsin-route-elevation-vs-race-sim-route-elevation/37741
The IMMOO loop is 39.69 miles with 2,695 feet of elevation gain and loss

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/invitation/accept.mb?view=dashboard&key=MjY2NjY4
Elevation Gain (ft) +6,886 / -6,888

Based off my loop ride starting at the BP gas station across from Gray's Tied House - 44.46 miles
Total Ascent 2432 ft
Total Descent 2456 ft

Thanks for that...I'm really wishing there was a way to ride it before September......but alas, a road trip from California isn't on the agenda.  i'll keep training with the California cows.....and hope it transfers well to the WI cows!!

You should be okay as long as you don't tell the cows in WI that happy cows come from CA... they won't like that very much!

Swam in Lake Monona today.  Algae is out and water is green, but not daunting, yet.  Visibility was decent.  Waves were not as bad as a couple of days ago.  Water is probably about 60 degrees or so.  Brrr!

Swam last night just off the Terrace - water was much calmer this time around, but still kinda cold.

Today rode 2 loops and a portion of the "stick" to declare just over 94 miles on the Moo bike course.  I be sore.  It was raining off and on lightly in the beginning, but the wind hung around all day from the west making the workout a little tougher.

Hi everyone! I have a question for the Madison locals...I'll be in WI August 21-22 for a Ragnar Relay race and want to take a side trip to Madison to check out the course and hopefully ride a loop of the bike course before IMWI. Where is the best place to rent a bike (either road/tri bike) and would the course be better to ride either on a Thursday (August 20) or a Sunday (August 23)? Since Texas is relatively flat, I definitely want to check out the hills ahead of time to acclimate and mentally prepare! I did IMFL last year so this is an entirely new experience!

I believe Machinery Row may rent bikes - it's just east down past the Monona Terrace, by the Lake -
http://www.machineryrowbicycles.com/index.php/rentals

Hard to say when the ride would be better to do.  I would think during Thurs. would be doable since people would more apt to be at work and the roads wouldn't be as busy, but Sun. wouldn't be too bad then you can see a few more riders on the course.  Then again, in Wisconsin, the weather changes every 5 min., so, who knows what would be the better day anyways.

Machinery Row definitely rents bikes, I talked to them about it last year. They rent Trek Madones.
