TT Done.  I am in pain.  I tried to figure out how to do the zones myself but so far without success.  I need to eat something and do somework..... Help! What are my HR ZOnes:

Full 40 minute run (with 10 minute warm up)

39m 59s 4.80 miles 08m 20s/Mi
Min HR: 97
Avg HR: 154
Max HR: 172

Lap 1 (first 10 minutes of 30 min TT)

Avg HR:  152; Max HR 161

Lap 2 (last 20 minutes of 30 minute TT)

Avg HR:  167; Max HR 172

I saw this posted on another thread on HR zones.  It is a tool here on BT that allows you to calcuate your HR zones.  Just go here, choose Run and enter your LT (which should be your average HR during lap 2 of your TT).

http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/hrzones.asp

I would think that like most things on this site, this is pretty accurate but it might be worth the touching base with a coach as Bob suggested.

You would use 167 as your LT.  Zones are as follows

Z1=110-141

Z2=142-151

z3=152-159

z3=160-166

z4=167-170

z5=172-185

You can find this by going to "Manage your heart rate zones" on your training page.  Nice job on the test.  I was going to do it myself tonight but decided on 1/3 mile repeats. Ouch also.

Aimeep - 2009-01-07 5:41 PM Yeah! Good news! No pelvic fracture at this point! Probably like everyone else, I'm overtrained and my running is doing more harm than good. I'm clear to run Houston Marathon next weekend SLOWLY if I don't run this week or next and let some of the strain heal. If it hurts during the marathon, I stop, and I do not go for any PR at all. After that, I've got to lay off for a little bit and skip the marathon I signed up for in February. And probably March, and focus on biking and swimming and strength training. Thanks so much for the good thoughts and well wishes. It's a huge relief and also a little bit of a reality check that I can't do everything and never take a break. That's a hard pill to swallow, but it's worth it! So....here's to swimming and biking alot for a while!

Congratulations!  Enjoy taking it easy and think of it as preventative care for the high season.

Bryan- Mile repeats suck. I have not done them yet this winter as they suck so much.  Good call on HR zones, here's what Mike Ricci (D3 coach) said:

Go to your log, on the right side click on HR Zones - input 167 for your run, and you'll see the numbers fill in. You are set.

This has been great!! You guys are great mentors! Thanks! Bryan, I have to agree with Jeff and say that mile repeats are more painful than the TT. As painful as both are, the feeling you have when you are done is nothing short of exhilarating!!

I got to bed a bit late last night and just couldn't get up this morning to jump back on the trainer. Lo-Daddy is doing the Dinsey Marathon this weekend!! Wish him well!

Anyone else racing this weekend?

Thanks for the words of encouragement for Disney.  Sorry I haven't been around much this week, I've actually had to so some work!   I was worried earlier in the week.  I did a short 6 mile run and my legs felt like lead.  I was wondering, "How the crap am I going to run 26.2 miles when these 6 miles are killing me?"  I had a decent swim yesterday that seemed to loosen things up.  I did a short run this morning before work, and I felt much better.  Train hard guys and I'll be away from a computer for a few days so I'll give everyone a shout next week.

Good luck & have fun at Disney!  I was there last year and made the mistake of walking a lot around the parks for the days leading up to the marathon.  I wish the race spent more time in the parks, but it is still a great race.  I'm hoping to go back in January 2011.

Lo-Daddy: This is my motto for races at amusement parks: after its over, corn dogs and roller coasters.  Good luck and give Minnie a kiss for me.

Bob: Exhilaration is not how I would have described it. But, that's why your the mentor!

I'm not racing this weekend but I have a masters stroke clinic, 3 hours worth of breastroke instruction for racing. One of my goals is to qualify for nationals in my age group for 50 yards breastroke, once I qualify I will be working on my 100IM and 100 Breastroke times. My last meet I swam a 34:50 and I need to get a qualifying time of 33:40, my 100 breast is at 1:16 and I need a 1:13. I know Breastroke is not Tri specific but it keeps things interesting for me, I'm also considering doing some bike racing also!

Also I was in San Diego yesterday and it was 65 degrees, I saw two riders in full winter clothing(long sleeves,tights,booties,etc.), I could not believe it!

Should I be depressed that you 100 breast is about 1 minute faster than my 100 free!?!  Have fun at the clinic and good luck with the qualifier.

I have a sweat question:

I sweat, and sweat a lot, when I work out.  This seems to happen even when I am going at an easy pace, it is pouring off me.  Is this just the way my body works or a sign that I am training in too high a zone?  My run tonight was at a slower pace yet just 10 minutes into the run, I was drippingf.  I pretty much felt like I could carry on a conversation during the run, no huffing and puffing.  I haven't started using a HRM yet (got it for christmas but no time to  do the TT yet--plus not sure it is needed in training for my first sprint) so I don't know what zones I am in.

Thoughts?

I'm a heavy sweater, too.  My excessive sweating is usually caused by the temperature/humidity.  For example, when I run this time of year in PA, I barely sweat while running, but notice the sweat starting the minute I get back inside.  However, if I run at the same intensity in the summer, I am dripping with sweat.

so i am a lurker in your group bob. i just wanted to respond to this sweat ?.

i too am a heavy sweater. it doesn't matter if i am going for it or doggin it, i'm always soaked.
i don't think it's a bad thing to sweat as long as you are aware of it and replenish appropriately. In the winter months it is a little more challenging as you have to deal with dressing for the cold AND making sure you don't seal in all that moisture. this year i finally bought some more "technical" clothing and it seems to be helping. i can wear less layers and still be warm for my whole run.

remember to hydrate properly even in the winter!

Bob: mark me down for 222 lbs as of 6:30 this morning (post swim).

On the issuse of sweat: I sweat like a pig, always have.  Just make sure to hydrate well before and after.  If you weigh yourself before and after a workout the difference is water weight.  Drink a pint per pound lost (a pints a pound the world around) to replace the water.  Also, I aim for a gallon of water per day in addition to post workout rehydration.

SweetK - 2009-01-09 1:20 PM More good news on the PT front! As of today, I no longer have to wear the huge immobilizing brace!! I don't have to wear a brace at all, as a matter of fact. That is unless I'm doing a strenuous activity. I got this new funky brace when things like that happen, perhaps running in a few weeks! I do have to continue to wear an ace bandage for compression to help manage the swelling that fluctuates. Yes all is good! BTW ~ My surgery was only 3 weeks ago today...

Awesome news Kristen!! Congrats on a very well managed recovery!! Keep it up!!

I will always welcome a lurker that seems to kick my tail in any race. (Under 26.2 miles that is! ) Not no mention what a great friend to let me know that my shorts are see through! What a guy!!

Tim is right on with the technical clothing and helping you stay warm. I have been wearing a very thin Reebok base layer that I got an an outlet for $15 almost 6 years ago and it works great. Down to about 0 degrees I can get away with tights, my Reebok base, a cotton long sleeve t-shirt and a windbreaker. (Gloves and hat as well of course). WHen I get home, the cotton T is soaked but my skin is dry from the technical base layer wicking the water away.  Remember that you do still lose water in the winter and need to stay hydrated.
