"Yeah doing my PhD in Applied Languages in Limerick" If you could work out a way to make your dissertation on Moby Dick you would be the hero of immature literature geeks forever.
Aha, see my area of Applied Languages is a bit different than literature - I'm interested in how people learn langauges, how to teach them, history of languages, sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. And even though I'm addicted to reading I'm ashamed to say I gave up on Moby Dick after 20 pages - really REALLY ashamed here now. |

I cheated and listened to Patrick Stewart reading it while painting my bedroom (me painting, not Patrick Stewart). |

Unfortunately we don't have half days here - i'm afraid the reason for it was simply a national hangover Cead_Mille_Failte - 2009-03-18 3:47 PM You're doing very well then! My advice is: see how it goes. Keep that option open as long as you can. If you have to sign up fairly soon do so if you can and then see how it goes. Also try to start training outside as much as you can. I went to my kinda local pub last night but it was soooooooo packed that I gave up after about an hour and a half. Still, managed to catch quite a good band playing so can't complain. I must say though college seems a bit empty today lol college is always empty on a wednesday though? Atl east here it is because its never more than a half day. Are you at college in ireland then? Have applied for a job in Cork for when i graduate (if i graduate?:P) ps just foudn a really funny picture of me uploaded on facebook, not entirely sure what i was donig lol ![]() I'm actually 21 and doing my final year of Electronic And Computer Engineering at Uni of Nottingham. Do you know any other languages then? I've always been interested in french and know a reasonable amount but gramatically its horrible lol. Edited by SteveyD 2009-03-19 5:11 AM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have always liked the idea of learning English from DaisyMouse. That could be because she called me stonking once. Ceade. Don't feel bad about Moby Dick. I read 60-100 books a year (not counting training and nutrition books or mags) and I have never read it either. Always thought I read Bram Stokers "Dracula" and realized I hadn't so I just finished that a little bit ago. Actually quite tame compared to movies, but good none the less. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stevey you can do it. Great job in going for it. The swim is less than a 1/4 mile (hardest part IMO) the bike is about 5 miles and the run is about 1.5 miles. You will rock it and be hooked for sure. |

The bit i'm worried about is the run rather than teh swim. I am absolutely crap at running as it just hurts me knees so much. I have decided i'll do it for charity too. One of my dear friends mum is blind, and its a hereditary disease which means one day he will just wake up blind also. I have a huge amount of respect for the man as he does so much good stuff and so i'm going to fundraise a bit for the charity that he helps out and that helps him out. It is NOT cheating to listen to books as audiobooks. They are my lifesaver. I drive a lot and listen to a lot of audiobooks. Also, I don't see as well as I used to (that aging presbyopia thing) and reading, as in eyeballs looking at pages, is fatiguing for me, but since I have my audiobooks, I am OK. And since the vast majority of them of read by really good readers, I enjoy them now even more than reading the old regular way. |

The distances are short enough that none of the three disciplines should be a problem, it will give you a flavor or triathlon and you will be hooked forever. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My late weigh in Last week: 227.2 This week: 226.8 Down .4 lbs I feel that I just got lucky this week and should have deserved a big ole gain. I have been in a funk lately, plus going out of town didn't help. But, I think it is in the Team Skinny Code of Conduct to not complain about a loss. So I will take it. ![]() |

Good luck with your remaining finals and such, Josh, and with your dissertation, Jo. Let me repeat, I am really glad that I don't have to do any of that any more. |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() THe joke is that Moby Dick is the story of the whaling Quakers of Nantucket. The movies always gloss over it but the book has alot of history of the men from Nantucket.

thing about latin is hte history side is great and the way that you can see where english words came from is interesting, for example an ambulance is literally translated as "does the walking for you" |

![]() | ![]() Hi All, Well, I had a crazy couple of weeks and just as I was getting into the flow of training regularly I had a resurgence of migraine headaches which I haven't had so badly since childhood and had to go out of town for work. So, now that the headaches finally seem to have subsided ( I was waking up with them almost every day for 10 days) I want to get back to it. I will weigh in tomorrow and log my food and training. I know weigh-in is Wednesdays but I am afraid if I let it go til next Wed. I will slack. Keep training and posting. Best, Jennifer |
