So I have been checking out the threads on GPS and heart rate monitors and I really want one. All the buzz is for the new Forerunner 310XT by Garmin. I like the fact that it is waterproof because I sweat a lot, and numerous people talk about shorting out their 305's. It is pricey but I am going to be claiming a buttload of physio bills and I figure when I get that back it might be worth it.

Any thoughts or experience with gadgets, to endorse or reject buying one of these things?

Garmin products are good. I have yet to short mine out. I will say that the buzz about the 310XT hasn't made me feel the need to upgrade. If I didn't own a Garmin device I might start with the 310. But upgrading isn't something I plan to do in the near future.

My next major purchase will probably be a power meter for the road, and then a new frame. Then I'll need to replace my wetsuit next season at the latest, perhaps sooner.

My wetsuit arrived today, so I plan to try it out tomorrow with an OWS.  I decided to rent this time, and see if I want to continue this "lunacy".  If I like the long races, then I'll invest in a wetsuit.  Otherwise, I'll just wait until the water warms up around here, which will probably be very soon!  There is a good chance that we won't be able to wear wetsuits because of the water temps -- today it was 75.

Am I insane, or maybe my subconscious told me to take it easy today?  It was a nice day, not too terribly windy (less than the last few weeks, at least), and I planned a 2 1/2 hour ride followed by a short run.  I couldn't go fast to save my life!  Is it possible that my subconscious was telling me it was time to start tapering?  Or maybe I was just being lazy?  Anyway, I got off the bike, took off for a quick run, and I still feel fine 9 hours later!  Opinions?

My policy is to not overthink anything that happens in training within 2 weeks of a big race. Focus on the "feeling fine" part and not so much on the speed on your ride today. It's pretty common for doubts to creep in during the taper, as your volume goes down and you start to gets anxious about the race. Resist the temptation to do more than your taper plan. Trust your training. Rest well, eat well, and be happy about the fact that you get to do this really cool thing. Like I said, the cool thing about long course races is there's more time to enjoy the race!

I rented from wetsuitrental.com.  So far, so good -- they said they would ship it on the Monday two weeks before the race, and they did.  It arrived today, one week before the race.  It's in good shape, it fits, and I'll try it out a couple of times before the race.  It's a good way for me to figure out if I need one.

My totals for April....

April's totals:
Bike:10h 29m  - 306.3 KM
Run:14h 19m  - 51.33 KM
Swim:5h 28m  - 9400 M
Strength:45m
Pilates:1h 20m

I have no real basis for comparison however I am happy with the workouts I achieved. I will be focussing on specifics as I gear up for my first Olympic later in the year. The month of May will be interesting, I will see how I go compared to April and that will set the trend for the coming months.

They close my indoor pool w/ lightning as well, same wait periods.

Today a new PR for my 12mi bike: 37:00 exact!  It's the cadence, I found myself most comfortable at 80-84 rpm - Thanks everyone for all the encouragement about learning to keep cadence high.

I did it on my new bike, a ghetto cervelo 2008 p2sl.  The soloist frame never felt right, the p2sl frame does.  I still need to straighten out my cockpit, ebay here i come.

So me a few of my friends took a nice long ride to the city yesterday. We didn't want to push to hard so we just rolled along and talked about things in general. We did get to see 2 very  nice cars, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a 1964 Ferrari Superfast. Sorry I don't have pictures to up load for you, but we were riding bikes and I don't exactlly take a camera with me.

Heh... I think "ghetto cervelo" may be an oxymoron. They make good stuff. Nice work! I had the same sort of cadence conversation with KristenRN on a ride yesterday.

it's ghetto because i put a carbon fork on it from an '07 soloist, I'm running it without the front derailer (and stripping off the small front ring today), I chopped the standard road bike drop handlebar and mounted it upside down so as to mount the sti levers parallel to the ground.  It's nice and "custom", in a cheap and thrown together kind of way.

I had a fun taper day today!  I planned an OWS experience -- put  my rented wetsuit on, sat my husband on the dock as my spotter, and swam up and down the bayou. It's not as salty as the gulf will be, but there were boats creating wakes, so there were rollers and "waves". A decent simulation, I think. It was amazing how buoyant the wetsuit makes you! And I really didn't have a hard time stripping it off either. I feel good about the experience.

See, positive thoughts coming from Cheri!!!

I qualifed for 70.3 World Championships at the the St. Croix today!

This was my super double secret A-race that I didn't tell anyone about.  I was starting to get sick of having all my friends follow me online for my big races only to see me choke.  The conditions were absolutely brutal and I didn't get Kona like I hoped, but I'm still ecstatic over how it turned out.

Race report once I get back to Texas.

I followed you online as I sipped coffee on my couch (I have a super-secret decoder ring...). Aaron I'm proud of you brother! That's a hard course on a good day! I had no doubts you'd be headed to the 70.3 Worlds, and I think it's just a matter of time before you're Kona bound. Congrats. Hope you get to enjoy a little bit of St Croix before you head home!
