Weather is cold here - I have been running at an indoor oval (it is the ice arena where the speedskaters train for the olympics and there is a track around it) - always go the same direction which is counter clockwise.  I have run 3 times now this week and my left leg (inside leg) has been very painful.  I have never run on a track before - any ideas on how to take the turns better?

Is that near Miller Park? Been by it but never stopped.
We have a small indoor track at our Y, they change directions odd days one way even days the other. It is too small of a track so I never used it. Thats all I have.

Yes - it is the Petit Ice Center. The track is 466 ? meters.  So about 3 3/4 around is a mile.  It is nice temperature and beats running in the snow. It is about 20 minutes from my house so that is kind of a pain but I am going to be using it to train for Bostom.

That is so cool to have a track that size to use in the winter. I would think if you are using that track that often changing directions would help.

It would but the rule is to go counterclockwise. I was very tempted to go the other way yesterday

Run backwards every other lap Tongue out

Our family just joined the Y on New Year's Day, so I recently discovered the JOY of an indoor track during a WI winter. The track is set up w/2 ginourmous clocks on opposite ends that are color coded to indicate which direction to run. The track switches directions every 30 minutes. It's funny because it's the alpha in the group that decides the EXACT moment when we switch. And when we switch, there's always a couple of people in the pack that look either really confused or kind of pissed.

hahaha!  This sounds like an episode of Monty Python!  Forgive me for my ignorance, but why does it matter what direction people run in?

Not sure. Guessing it's to help prevent injury? To me, however sad this may seem, I like it because the 30 min change of direction mixes it up/keeps it interesting and gives you a change of view. And it sure beats the hamster wheel...er I mean treadmill.

Coming up on 8:30 AM, time to switch!

Hilarious! It DOES have a Monty Pythonish feel to it. I would love to have access to an indoor track that long. Our Y has a small indoor track --- 22 laps to a mile.  Usually there is Zumba or Hip Hop class going on in the center, so there's at least entertainment.

Good morning!  Another sleepless night...so I've been at work since 6 this morning.  Just thought you should all listen to my whining first thing in the morning.

Did my first workout since saturday last night.  When is this damn sinus thing going to go away!?

Okay, I'm done.  Have a great day everyone!

Here's a favorite quote...

"If one can stick to the training throughout the many long years, that WILLPOWER is no longer a problem. It's raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's besides the point. It's simply just that I have to."

You can add..."I have a sinus infection. Whatev. BRING IT!"

Sux being sick. Hope you start feeling better soon! And return to your training ASAP!

I hear this last night as part of a New Years Resolution. Anything negative you turn around, so instead of saying "I have to do a workout" say "I get to do a workout"

Sinuses suck! Last November had to go in for Sinus surgery, I polyps and my sinuses where ~98@ blocked. The doc said he didn't know how I could run with them that bad. After surgery he said they shouldn't come back for 5 - 10 years. By March I was back in surgery again. This summer I was doing good and thought they got them this time. By November I was having trouble again. Went to the doc after Christmas and his said I would have to do surgery yet again.
So some time this spring I GET to have a 3rd surgery.
Been putting it off now, but don't want to wait too long because I miss a few weeks of training after I have the surgery so I don't want to mess up my spring races.

Oh man....I feel better now.  What causes these polyps?  This is a stupid question, but have you tried alternative medicine...or is that not even an option?

Not sure what causes them. Not sure if there is any alternative medicine, the docter has given me some meds but you can't stay on them long.

Usually I am posting everyday in the forums but training for the next couple races combined with work, kids and 9 inches of snow has kept me away!

Sounds like everyone is doing well...for the most part.   I too have had sinus issues. I find that if I do use a sinus irrigation kit right when I start to get stuffy it helps a lot.

I hear you guys on the sleep thing - I have only been getting 5 or 6 hours..either not falling asleep or not staying asleep..*sigh*

Whose racing this weekend?  If you aren't what is everyone else doing?  I am teaching spin tomorrow then running 5 or so  miles.  Sunday morning is 10-13 miles.  Maybe get a chance to do some skiing (downhill) on this minature slopes in Wisconisn Tongue out

I irrigate every morning, helps some, but it is getting harder to get the water to go through.
Never have trouble sleeping, but I usually only get 5 - 6 hrs per night.
Enjoy your run Sunday, are you doing that outside?

My son (12) is having DH skiing in school this week, now he wants me to take him skiing this weekend, cool.I learned to in Austria, which was cool, then I got back to Wis and skiing wasn't much fun. I felt like I spent more time on the ski lifts, so I gave it up. That was 20 years ago, I hope I can still do it.

We have a treadmill so I am hoping.  It may only be 20 min but I am not picky.

The Vibram Five Fingers I mentioned are the "barefoot running shoes"....think modern Tarahumara sandals.  I just ordered some to try.
