I'm gearing up for my second brick tomorrow. This time I'm planning on about a 12-mile ride followed by a 2.5-mile run. And when I say "planning," I mean "hoping I don't keel over." Also, I now know something is seriously wrong with me. This morning I swam 1300 yards/35 minutes. In the rain. Hi, my name is Josh. And I'm a triathlon-holic. Swimming and running in the rain are allowed. When you start biking in the rain is when you have trouble. |

Extreme Veteran 567 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Artist - 2010-02-09 12:20 PM OK I did my first real brick today. Rode five miles on the trainer and then did a run/walk for 30 minutes. I actually still ran more than walked and maintained a good pace for me. I will up the bike ride next time before the run. I do feel it in my legs now. FOught through some minor knee pain with some adjustments to my stride. WooHoo! Great job Terry!! Had my first swim lesson today. The coach was great - made some corrections and within minutes I felt so much better in the water! These lessons are going to be so valuable. Edited by JeffIrvin 2010-02-09 6:04 PM |

Then things seem to straighten out. The wobble slowly turns into a stride. The more bricks you do the easier they will become. Keep it up! That is hysterical, true, but hysterical! |

Regular 73 Valencia, CA | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Did my second brick today, and it was a little more substantial: Bike: 12.65 miles Run: 2.2 miles My legs definitely felt a little stiff when I started running (mostly my quads) but once I fell into a rhythm I felt fine on all fronts. With 3.5 weeks until the event, I'm feeling pretty good about things. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Glad to hear how well it went. I had my bike adjusted today and then had to avoid my exercise room after we put up a layer of foam insulation using contruction adhesive. So I did nothing today. Good job on your brick |

Veteran 262 Longview | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Ok I do not like the run that is the reason I make myself do it more. I used to hate the swim until I was taught to swim correctly. The gym where I swim is having a 14 day ironman challenge I think I am going to try. I will have 14 days to complete all iron distances. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training I love biking and am looking forward to that segment. Used to be the swimming that made me avoid tris= now that I am hitting the pool. not so much. I love to run, but it is the run tha has me woried with all the issues with my right knee. At least I can walk to the finish line. There will be no DNF by my name! |

Elite 2645 Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training I really enjoy the bike portion of a race. In longer races it can be social. You chat with people as you pass each other, and you see all the spectators. I'd like to become a runner, though. They get all the glory at the end. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training I attempted a second brick today. I was going to hit the pool, but got a slight chemical burn in my eyes from using something I probably shouldn't have so I had to blow it off. ANyway rode 12 miles on trainer ar 76 CAD and 17.5 pace. Then jumped on treddy. Felt the wobbles for sure. Ran 5 min at 4.8 (Fast for me) then walked 5 min. Tried to run again, but each attempt was short lived. Felt like starting my running training all over again. Needed to get off and go write up an article for the paper before deadline. Well shows I still have a long way to go to get ready for doign tris. |

So my events get better as the time goes by How about you? From you logs it looks like you are half fish! My favourite is the swim BY FAR!! I love swimming, and really wish it made up more of triathlon! I love running as well, it's very peaceful. My only source of suffering is the bike. Why is it so long?! I am a quick learner. I can pick up skills quickly (thus me getting really good at swimming in a short period of time) but it takes a long time for me to develop muscle - thus biking is just so HARD to improve on for me. I'll have to train very hard in the next few months and years to become a good biker. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Krystna-I love the bike and have for years. I did pick up a great tip when Lance Armstrong was winning in the Tour. He said the key was to find a good cadence that you can use on the hills and the flats. I have been shifting for cadence rather that speed ever sice. You can ride faster and longer once you do that. A cadence feature on your computer can help. Hope it helps some |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Thanks Jeff. I knew the bricks wold be hard and are critical in getting truely better-so I won't quit. Eyes are still stinging a lot, not sure the true cause. Pool was really murky on Thursday or even a reaction to the contruction adhesive we used in the workout room after my brick and a shower I almost couldn't see enough to go do my interview so now I suspect the glue. Hopefully time will help-what a pain-My training injury is my eyeballs!!! |

Sounds like races are being lined up for everyone and all of you are stoked for the year and challenges ahead. I really enjoy the bike but if there was one I really like it would be the run. Its helped me find myself more. I've run and exercised only alittle lately, Its been a little difficult finding motivation this year to get out in the cold and get moving. I need to dig a bit deeper to challenge myself. I can do this ,just spinning my myself crazy. |

Veteran 262 Longview | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training I was going to admit to a kind of duh moment I had earlier today. I have signed up for my gyms 2 week ironman challenge and was reading the instructions when I thought that 77 laps in a 25 meter pool was not the right distance. It took me about 20 minutes to realize that a lap is up and back, not one length. The only thing I wish they would do different is not make us do 112 miles on a spin bike |

Elite 2645 Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training Some friends and I decided to run a Marathon Relay this weekend, and we WON! Our overall time was 3:08:10, so we technically crushed it. There was some drama though. I'll paste below from my training log: There was another team vying for the title, and they were about 100 yards behind our runner, Yati. I'm in the car filming Yati and cracking wise, and Yati yells back "They said I didn't need to carry this baton, you take it." He threw me the baton and I put it in the car. Immediately the runner from the 2nd place team starts screaming obscenities. He was seriously freaking out. "You're done buddy. Â DQ! F%$@ you! We all have to carry the baton! That's F%$^ing part of it!!!" Â So we toss Yati the back the baton and drive off. At the next exchange that runner comes in HOT. He gets in my face. I thought I was going to have a fight. Then a race official came up and we told him the story. All of the sudden, Mr. Hot Pants was our best friend. He flipped his psycho bit to crazy-friendy. Bi-Polar much? Anyway, we beat that team by 14 minutes, so no REAL drama. Some friends and I decided to run a Marathon Relay this weekend, and we WON! Our overall time was 3:08:10, so we technically crushed it. Extreme Veteran 567 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Slidell4Life's Group - CLOSED for Training So how is everyone's training week looking? Any big weeks planned? Starting today I have 6 days in a row in the pool! Going to see if those swimming lessons were worth it or not by the time Sunday rolls around! Oh, also on Saturday going to do 30 mins run/ 60 mins bike/ 60 mins swim -- reverse Tri style! Should be a good gauge of how my conditioning is coming. |
