Pre-race routine:

We stayed at the 4th Street Courtyard which was about 2 blocks from the start line. I had a full breakfast at 5:30am. It was awesome!
Event warmup:

Shivered a little and did some half-hearted stretching.

Meet fellow BTer AndrewMT. He came over and said hi. Very nice dude.

Comments:

Started with the 3:40 pace group but quickly feel back because of all the people who slotted themselves wrong. Every race I always get angry that people do this but yet I always start where I am supposed to - my fault. From this day forward I am going out with the 6min mile guys and all the 6:30min guys can complain about me (-:

The course was very challenging. Being from Houston the hills made it tough but I really enjoyed running on different terrain. The toughest parts were around mile 8. You are running along and make a sharp right hand turn and BOOM - a step hill jumps up at ya! Then at 12.2 miles in was an absolute killer of a hill. It took all I had to run up that sucker and it pretty much drained me of what I hoped would be a final kick.

The weather was beautiful. The course was challenging. The city looked great. Pace booty galore. Wonderful race.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front and not stop to pee at mile 8.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to my hotel and took a shower and changed before my family and friends finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I left some on the course. Not much but some, I could have pushed a little harder for the first 5k but was limited by slower runners in front of me.

Event comments:

Great race with incredible crowd and volunteer support. Finishing with the Texas State Capital bulding at your back is very cool and spending the weekend in Austin is always so much fun.

Jeff, great meeting you this morning!  Glad you enjoyed the race, and living in Houston, I can relate to the shock of the hills!

Seriously!  I'm from the hill country and still my legs were shocked.  They forget about hills pretty quickly running/riding in Houston!

Awesome job, Jeff! Hills always sneak up on you when you least expect them to... but I don't pity you too much because I am incredibly jealous of your nice weather.

I hope you and your wife recover nicely!!
