I had an interesting PT session....anyone know anything about how LONG the effect of Quinolones (levaquin type antibiotic) lasts on the connective tissues?

Oh, also tri is my second sport right now, I train and fight muay thai (next fight in 2 weeks time) so that keeps me fit but fitting all my training in takes a lot of scheduling and a patient husband.

How do you manage to fit both in?  Having fought in martial arts competitively before, I would struggle to be able to fit both sports into my life

With little sleep and little life outside of work and training! lol
No, its not so bad, 5 mornings a week tri training and long rides on Sundays, 5 nights a week muay thai and extra sparring on saturdays running up to fights.... At least both keep me fit for each other....

What discipline did you compete in? What made you change sports? Just curious....

Taewkondo myself, left it as got married and moved to my wifes side of the city and never could find a dojo that I liked enough to get back into it again.  They are pretty thing around me and the ones here are not overly professional in their running, needed to get at least one more dan on my belt before I could have started instructing on my own.

I think the 2 sports would have not overly complemented each other too much, one is aerobic and the other anaerobic.  We had rounds of no more than 3 minutes each which where quite intense and alot different to the hours in this sport at lower intensity.

No, sorry. I had a quick look at some articles in pubmed on it but I didn't find anything about length of effect, well not in the short time I had to look anyway.
Are you concerned you are suffering as a result of taking quinolones?

PS. Absolutely sucks you car is totalled.

I know how hard it is to find the right trainer! Mine is retiring after my next fight so I have my hopes pinned on another one local to me but I'm not sure what I will do if it doesn't work out....

I agree they are 2 different types of training but I'm a bit ADD when it comes to exercise anyway so I find the variety keeps me motivated and I'm sure the mt intensity helps with my tri speed and the tri training helps with my overall fitness and keeping my weight down.

I'll take it...my research is going nowhere.  Trying to find hard science (not anectotal blog stuff) connecting the length of time from the use of Quinolones (levaquin , cipro, avelox) and the soft tissue/ tendon/ muscle issues.  I took the levaquin in May and had the gastrocs tear in August.

I don't have the time to look for you and I don't know if you have access to journal subscriptions but if not and you find an article in pubmed you want to read, give me a shout, I might have access and I'm happy to download and email you articles...

Good luck!

Best I got was a link between the Quinolones and the old anti-malarial drugs which they sort of developed from and the effect on things including the connective tissues, however it was basically a blog with the author using the medical symbol as his symbol so not sure how much science I would put into it.

Pretty negative article all up

Yeah, I'm looking specifically for a time frame correlation on how long between using the med and having soft tissue injury.  I know the FDA black box labled the drugs but I doubt too many docs really care about that particular issue.  In my case, my pcp uses that class of drugs cause I am allergic to a lot of other ones ant=d these are the best to treat my respiratory crud with my asthma.

I tried www.justanswer.com  that was a waste of my time (and money) the doc answer basically told me to consult a lawyer for the class action suit that may be taking place.  Not what I want.  I just want to recover and have an idea on the time frame for how long this can hang around from the d@mn levaquin.
