You did the tri perfectly ... the whole point is to HAVE FUN and figure out what you want to try better next time!

Swim--even the best of champions continually work on form. Form first, function and fastness later. Get some swim coaching or lessons. You can always get video of yourself and we'll rip it apart I mean help you here.

Thanks Yanti. Maybe I'll use my Christmas money (of the Christmas money I am hoping for ) for some swimming lessons. Oh, and I did definitely have fun...after the swim!

Emmanem - 2010-12-13 2:48 PM Havent been around much the last week, between finals and being sick I had little free time and the free time I did have was spent sleeping.  Finally feeling better, still coughing and congested but better.  Friday I finished up exams and we all went downtown to celebrate.  Being the one on antibiotics I was the DD but it was still fun to just go out and not have to worry about class anymore.  I witnessed my first fight.  We walked out of a pizza place and all of a sudden some guys who were about to walk in started punching each other.  One of the guys who worked in the pizza place had to come break them up.  It was kinda ridiculous.  Then Saturday I got an oil change and slept almost all day.  Then watched a movie with the boys.  This morning John and Ryan left and then James and I left around 2.  I got home after 5 and just spent some time with the family.  There's presents under the tree for me  I'm one of those people that has to shake and feel all my presents so my parents have gotten creative in how they wrap them now.  One year James even got about 10 boxes and put them one inside the other and made me open all to reveal an empty box but he did pull a little jewelry box out of his pocket right after everyone got a good laugh at me.  Hoping these gifts under the tree are some of the triathlon stuff I wanted

I like to guess at all my presents too! Hope you get what you are hoping for!

Oooh, I keep forgetting and then remembering which makes my day so much better, but I have a date with the lovely Jon Bon Jovi tonight - yay!
I'm taking my husband along this time so I may have to tone it down a notch or two but it will be an excellent night!

Got my day started of with a quick shoveling off of the driveway...  We have a 2 hour snow delay - which at first irritated me (it's a dusting for crying out loud!) - but now glad.  I'm going to take #1 over to the doc.  For the lst couple days, he's been having her feet get all red and itchy, sometimes her hands and now blotches on her face.  It's almost like she's allergic to something, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it might be!  But I would have felt really bad if her feet and face flamed back up at school in the middle of her spelling test.

I LOVE the many boxes leading to an empty box idea!!! Is it too late for me to use that this year... ?

I am a big joker when it comes to gifts. Many layers of wrap, joke gifts, etc. Not every time because that can make people angry... This year at my work Christmas party we did the gift stealing game and I wrapped up a pack of men's underwear. It didn't go quite as planned because the woman who received it was too polite for it to be scrutinzed as a strange gift. I gave her a gift card in exchange for the underwear afterwards.

I swam today.

Yanti will appreciate this part......nearly every flipturn I wound up grabbing the booty of my depigletized forer coach who was swimming in the next lane over.  I was splitting the lane with a breast stroker and my set had a lot of backstroke.  Hard to have a good idea where I was on those turns  Wink

Morning Crushers and congrats one and all on the great weekend workouts

I completed my second ever tri yesterday and while I am very happy with my bike and run I am, as ever, in despair about my swim. I have trained harder this year for the swim but seen zero imrpovement. If I could just come MOP in the swim I would be so happy - in fact if I could just not come last I would be happy! Here are the facts from the race:

swim (750m) - 18.27 (slower than last time even!)
bike (20km, time include T1 and T2) - 39.30
run (5k) - 23.30

Overall - 1hr 21

I should be happy, its 5 minutes faster than my first tri but the swim really marrs the whole experience.

I would love the benefit of everyones advice on how I should just suck it up and swim more to improve. Should I just swim for distance or swim drills or try to swim intervals...? How many times a week do you reckon I need to be swimming to see an improvement?
I am definitely going to add in a weekly open water swim because I went off course a few times so I think more open water swimming will help.

Congrats on the tri. If you ask me, all those times are looking pretty good.

I quit guessing at presents when I was 16. I got so good that I knew what every gift was. I had a lot of fun leading up to Christmas but then Christmas day wasn't as fun.

Have you ever tried a gift scavenger hunt? I like to start with a big box weighted down so it is really heavy and put a little note in the bottom with a clue to where the next box is hidden. Another disguised box with a clue. Repeat several times then they finally get the gift. Sometimes I'll put clues to the final gift in with the location clues. It can be pretty fun.

My SIL did a joke gift one year that was pretty good. I would be careful of who you choose to do this one on though. She did this to my son when he was 3. It didn't go over very well. She took a refrigerator box and decorated it like a house with Christmas decorations and such and cut a little door in the front. Then she filled it with crumpled up newspaper and hid some gifts in it. Some of the gifts were boxes of charcoal briquets ("coal"). My son digs in and what is the first thing he digs out? One of the boxes of coal. He didn't get it and we had to explain it to him. Grabs the second gift and again its coal. Third time guess what he grabs again. You got it, another box of coal. He was sooo mad he wasn't going to open any more. We talked him into opening more and in the end it worked out ok. We were talking Sunday and this is his first Christmas memory. My SIL still feels bad about it.

That's a neat idea too! I guess wait until they are old enough to understand.

You know how kids always think bigger is better? In grade 5 my friend opened the biggest gift and it was wood shavings. He cried. There was a hamster to go with it he found out later on...

My parents love scavenger hunts and stuff for us.  Anything that leads us on a wild goose chase around the house to find our gifts.  Then one year they did a crossword type thing and certain letters made a clue... the clue ended up being fruit gadget meaning we got ipod touches.  Daddy was really proud of how clever he was on that one

I found this blog today (http://runtothefinish.blogspot.com/2010/11/holiday-bootie-buster-challenge.html) and thought the challenge sounded fun but it started in the middle of November so then I thought I'd just do it on my own and who better to ask than my Crushers

Here's the rules she had posted:

1 Point per mile (run/walk/snowshoe)
1 Point per 3 miles biked
1 Point per 20 minutes of weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, stretching or abs
1 Point per 15 minutes of low impact cardio (i.e. aerobics, easy biking)
