mashmead - 2011-01-21 9:17 AM I wussed out on my run this AM.  Was only planning on going about 20 min or so.  I'm running in a 5k race tomorrow and have a good shot at a PR since I'm coming off my half mary training and the weather will be cool.  Legs will be fresh but I still can't shake that "missed workout" feeling.  Guess I could run tonight.  I tend to forget about evening running since most of my running is done pre-dawn.

My thoughts: If you really feel like you need to do "something" this close to the race, make it a light trainer ride, mostly to loosen up and get the blood flowing. More like an extended warm-up. Leave the running 'til the race at this point.

Or if you can...jump in the pool for a little bit and move around.  Maybe do a couple hundred...sllllooooowwwww...

But I'm guessing it's too late now.

I can't believe we were on the 2nd page - almost to the bottom!!

DT & I had a fairly busy day and got to enjoy the gorgeous upper 40's sunny day!!  Puppy got to go the dog park and we did a little socializing with another BTer and his daughter and wife.  THEN I did a 30 minute run.  I was not going for distance, I was merely going for time.  My body hurt and I was being a big whiner...but I did it.  I stopped for maybe a minute twice....but my total run time was 30 minutes because I made a play list that ran 30 minutes and I paused it when I took my 2 walk breaks.

Man was it nice having DT with me, for more than just moral support... among other things, my feet were bothering me.  I felt like the ball of my foot was bruised and that the joint between my toe and foot was hurting...he explained to me how the balls of the feet on the shoes wear through.  So I came home and ordered a new pair of shoes...hopefully that'll help!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Well, Biggest Loser Peoria style started this past week.  I weighed in at 148.5.  This was in the evening and fully dressed.  Not bad since my scale first thing that morning said 146.  Began the workouts the following day.  Was doing ok until life got in the way Friday and Saturday.  No workouts.  Poor eating, well, not poor eating but poor choices.  I still watched how much I ate, just had a soft taco from Taco Bell on THursday (after work out), Pizza and salad on Friday and McDonald's on Saturday evening.

Weight after working out today was 147.  Hope that's a good sign.

Nothing wrong with tacos and pizza in the right portions!

First trainer workout yesterday.  It was much more difficult than I expected!  One hour total and today my legs/shoulders are crying.

Home today with the grandson.  Babysitter canceled late last night (and she was the back up).  Sucked it up and took today as a sick day---that was after I went in to make sure my students had their folders for today (I had taken them home over the weekend).  I was there for an hour trying to make sure the principal knew what needed to be done in my classes.

Work out this afternoon when the kids get out of school.  I think tonight is the night we are supposed to try Zumba.

I had a pretty good weekend fitness wise. It’s officially “too cold to do much of anything” here. I went to the gym and took a spinning class, which was fun and a nice change of pace. I had planned to run on the treadmill, but they were all full. Sunday I took my son to the pool, played with him for a while, then swam 2000y or so while he took his swimming lesson. It’s great to have that visit to the pool built in to my schedule every week.

I also went bowling. I think, between the tiny amounts of physical effort involved, the sitting/standing around between turns, and the food that usually accompanies bowling, that bowling is like the opposite of exercise. I did bowl a 191, which is probably 75 points higher than my previous PR. So that was fun. I bowled 4 strikes in a row at one point.

I have a 4-mile race in two weeks, and then I really start in with my 15-k training plan for the race in March.

Bike frame should be back from the painter by this weekend. Hoping to get all of the parts (chain, bar tape) together to give to the mechanic by Sunday. If everything goes well, I should be back on the trainer by next week. My new bottle cages should arrive today.

PR'd my 5k race on Saturday!  The race was small and flat and some of the areas fast runners showed up.  However, the fastest of the fast have skipped this race the past couple of years and I think it's b/c of a popular half mary a short drive away.  Because of that I managed to snag 2nd overall with a 19:13.

Start back up on biking and swimming this week.  Was thinking about getting a hike in this weekend but think I might wait until hunting season is over in a couple of weeks.  I could wear an orange shirt I guess.

My knee has been giving me some problems today so I have had a brace on it all day.  Was a little worried about trying Zumba tonight, though.  Wasn't sure how my knee would react to it and I didn't want to look like a fool!  The instructor is supposed to be the hardest and I absolutely loved  him!  I worked my a$$ off for 60 minutes.  My knee didn't complain once during that time, but it sure did once I tried to use the treadmill afterwards.    Tomorrow is our first challenge--Rope Pull.  I've done it a couple of times so I should be ok.

Does anyone workout during their lunch break? We have a gym at work now so I went down and jumped on the treadmill. I remember why I don't like to do this now, I sweat ALOT! Even after a nice long cool down and long cool shower I keep sweating. I may feel nice and fresh after the shower but my head is drenched for another 20 minutes after -- not pretty. Just curious.

No chance this works for me.  No lunch workouts.  You are not alone.

It takes we awhile in the summer time to get to a point I can get in the shower and actually not be sweating still.  Not as bad in the winter months.

I don't have a close gym option for lunch but I know exactly how you feel about the sweating.  It's annoying.

Almost all my training during the week is done on my lunch break. There's a locker room and showers within a 2 minute walk of my desk, and lots of trails nearby, as well as low-traffic roads. I keep my MTB at work, and during the summer keep a road bike there as well, and do a majority of my running on the trails and service roads surrounding my work site. I do extend my lunch break, but make up the time either in the morning or afternoon.

I've got a question for the bike gurus.

We just got a trainer.  Our bike computers are set on the front wheels of our respective bikes.  I bought the cheapest bike computer I could find ($10 at Wal Mart) to temporarily put on our bikes' back tires for whoever is using the trainer.  It's pretty quick and easy using some twist ties.

However, the new computer needs tire sizes to be input.  This is where my bike knowledge really stops since I haven't looked up exactly what these numbers mean.  Her tires are 700x25c and mine are 700x23c.  The computer has some preset tire sizes of which mine is not present.

If we use Mary's tire size how much, if any, of a difference will the data be when the computer is on my bike?

Both our tires are made by Vittoria.  I went to their website and looked up our tires and they say both of them are 28" in diameter.  This is also where I got confused.  The bike computer has a different size setting for 700x25c (Mary's tires) and 28".  Since there is an option on the computer for 28" tires, should I just stick with that?

In case you're wondering I tried to move my computer's sensor to the rear tire but it's too far away to get a signal.

Hope this all makes sense but I'm sure I left some info out.  Any advice?

According to Cateye, the circumference of a 700x28 is 214 cm and for a 700x25, 211 cm.  A difference of less than 2%.  211cm circumference = 26.44 in diameter.  214cm circumference = 26.82 in diameter.  I would go with the 700x25c setting and leave it there.

Thank you for my brain teaser for the morning, and congrats on an awesome 5K.

P.S.  You could also roll out your actual wheel and measure its actual circumference.  Make a mark on the tire/corresponding mark on the floor.  roll bicycle till mark meets floor again.  Measure distance.

I've bee using a little pain in my heal as an excuse to not work out for the last 5 days.  I think it's better now.  Time to get back on the wagon.

Well after the 30 minute run on Saturday and not making time between then and yesterday I finally got back out.  It wasn't a good run, but we went our "usual" loop of 1.5 miles.  I ran probably a mile of it...not to self: do not eat all of Costco's samples before trying to run....but they were soooo good!

Today is supposed to be another nice day (atleast it looks it so far) but I won't have much time...but I don't sit around at work - so that makes up for it in my mind.  It may not be cardio...but I stand for 5+ hours.....

Glad to see Zumba worked out!  I've never tried but it sounds like fun!!  Maybe 60 minutes of Zumba AND treadmill was a bit much for your knee....??

Can't wait to hear how the rope pull went! (I'm not sure what that is)

Last night we had our basic evaluation.  How fast can you walk/run 1/2 mile (6:50), Situps in a minute (30), pushups in a minute (25), how long can you hold a prone lank position (1:29), and how long can you wall sit (:25).  Rope pull was tough.  We had practiced it, but the resistance was harder than we had practiced.  I managed 279 feet in one minute.  There is a rope on a pulley and you continually pull it for the time that is pre-determined.

I wish I could train during a lunch break, but I don't usually get one!!!  Most of my training is before work or weekends.

Headed to Arizona for a conference, back on Sunday night.  I packed running clothes-- ask me on Monday if I used them.  If I know someone will check, maybe i'll be more likely to run...

On Monday, I'm going to ask, "how many times did you run, and how far."

I used to love going for runs when I travelled for business. It was a great excuse to get out of the hotel, which I never seemed to do otherwise.
