This link was posted last year. If you look at it on a daily basis, you'd be surprised how dramatic the temperature shifts can be. The water temp was 77 a few days ago, mid-50s today. It is true that the wind direction and recency of passing weather have huge effects on the water temp.

I highly recommend a neoprene cap (worn under your race cap). It makes a huge difference in comfort, and it keeps the cold water out of your ears. Could be among the best $25 you spend on tri equipment.

Actually that is good news about the water temp, that means that there is a CHANCE that the water will be ok.  Got my neoprene cap just in case

I plan on swimming for @ a 1/2 hour before the ride on Saturday depending on how cold the water is this weekend.

Anybody interested in joining me?  Wheels are out at 7:30, so anybody interested in swimming should be ready to hit the water at 6:30 so we don't hold up the group.  We usually start by lifeguard stand on the south end of the beach by the parking area.

kimk - 2011-06-27 2:00 PM I go to Emery's for all my bike needs. Brent is great!

x 2 on Brent.

Or, call Jerry Kegel at the Hales Corners location of Wheel & Sprocket.  They are 15 to 20 minutes further south than Emery's.  I am sure he would get you hooked up also.......

Can't go wrong with either one!

Darn, would love to but will be out of town Saturday.   Thanks for the info on water temps.  The upside to swimming in the cold water Friday was that it made Lake Andrea feel like a bathtub on Sunday at Pleasant Prairie!

Too far of a drive for me, but I wouldn't mind knowing if any roads have been repaved or if I will be dodging potholes again. Dave you coming to the dinner saturday before the race?

Cool, thanks for the info. Looks like the 3rd Coast shop in Racine can take care of it if I don't find a bag in time. I'll check out the link as well.

I'll get you a road update after the ride this weekend.  Still working on the bride about dinner on Saturday night.  Should know before the end of the week.

Funny you have to o.k. it with the bride, race day is our 12th anniversary. What a way to spend it, me racing and my hubby and kids being bored to death watching! Oh well, makes for a nice little vacation!

Anyone know if there are any noteable pro's in this years race??? Last year Craig Alexander came and won it, but he doesn't list a return visit on his website.

Wake up Racine 70.3 ers!! Where are you?  Why are we WAAAAAYYYYY down on the thread list when our race is 14 days away?   How is everyone feeling during taper?  What's up for our pre race dinner?  How did the open swim/bike/run on the course go?

I snuck in a swim yesterday, I know that will be the last time I get in the water before I hit Lake Michigan.  Going to go for a long bike tomorrow, and that will probably also be my last outdoor ride until the race.  I ran 5 miles with a friend this am as part of a marathon training program.  It was fun to do a "short" run.

Hope every one is feeling good mentally and physically.  Every time I run or I am on the bike I picture passing under the M-dot "Finish Line" inflatable

I did a sprint tri yesterday, water was choppy. Last long ride for me today too and it is going to be hot here! Getting nervous!

Any one know where I can find the wave start postings?

SKDickey - 2011-07-03 5:25 PM Anyone do the Tri-Wi ride? How were the roads?

MOST of the roads were okay.  There are a few spots West of Interstate 94 that get pretty rough, but the worst of it is only a small section of maybe only a few hundred yards.

Overall though, I thought the roads were in reasonably good shape.  Certainly they could be better in spots, but this is Wisconsin and the winter takes a heavy toll on the roads up here.

I think, from what I remember, Main St. in Racine, right as you're finsihing up, are worse than any of the country roads. That said, i'm assuming it's the same bike course as when it was Spirit of Racine. That stretch has to keep your local dentist happy.

I am flying into Chicago and staying downtown there. Can anyone recommend a bike shop to ship my bike into/out of for this event?
