Back to my program after taking a week off....

My race schedule is:

Goleta Beach Triathlon  7/31,  Amica 19.3 Las Vegas 8/28,  LA Triathlon 9/25, Day at the Beach 10/9, Amica 19.3 Phoenix 11-5.   My ultimate goal is the Californa 70.3, 3/31/12.

I'll be interested to hear about Goleta.  I'm on their FB page, the race looks interesting and I always like supporting new races.  Let me know if you have questions on Hermosa or Oceanside.  I plan on being at Oceanside 2012 as well.

10AM and I already had lunch.  sigh....  Increased volume for HIM training is not without it's drawbacks.  My body will eventually settle into the routine (or rather I will settle into the nutrition a bit better) but for now eat eat eat...  And I already ate a lot.

It is 90 here today. I don't know how you can function in the heat, much less train.  I need to move farther North!!

Yeah, although with recent training "racing" might be overstating it.  I've looked at clydes results for the last two years and I'd have to be in the high 40s to meet my podium goal, which isn't too likely given past results and current training.  Unless those guys don't show up

Ran 4, then swam 3100 at masters last night.  Bunch of 200s.  Forgot my jammers so swam in my running shorts.  Drag suit, I guess.  I wasn't thrilled with my 200 time, but that's OK.  My running .... sigh...  running.   I was thinking last night that my running is like a box of chocolates.  I never know what my pace is going to be relative to my effort level.  I'm a pretty terrible runner, last week I ran a 9/mm pace, which is good for me.   Last night 10/mm felt like crap......  But I'm working on it

But the good news is this morning I actually HTF'dU and got on the computrainer!  It's been a while.  Just sorta made the set up, 2:30 intervals, 2:30 off.  made the hour go by fairly quickly.  I am supposed to be doing a hilly metric century this weekend up in Ojai, my a$$ is the part that I am worried about hurting the most.

I hear you, ran 9 miles at a decent pace for me on Monday, and could't keep the same pace for 4 miles tonight.

gator22 - 2011-05-30 12:52 PM Don't Want to make it any worse for you Seren, but blackflies are going to be terrible on Whiteface. Pack your skin so soft lotion! Its the only thing that keeps them from biting....

Perfect!  Maybe they can take some bodyfat from me!  Thanks for the advice.  Have you seen those discs that OFF sells?  Was wondering if they actually work keeping the bugs away instead of spraying all that stuff on my skin

Varations in pace are standard, the key is knowing why and removing any of the variables that are causing them that you can control.  Sleep the night before, diet, heat, humdity, etc.  Clearly you can't do anything about the heat and humdity, but it is important to know how changes in it affect you when your prepping for a race.  More for an accesment post race but you'd be less disappointed if your pace was way off from your typical training pace but then you realized that indeed that is faster then you normally run with that kind of humdity.  And well diet and sleep, those are big, and those are some what controllable.  Course some people are perfectly willing to just accept the results that day as they are and never really care about the why, and that's cool too.  But it is kind of neat to see how all the different things affect your peformance

Crazy work days.  Good job on getting the workouts in though.  One thing that can really cause cramping is good old fashion dehydration.  Make sure your getting the fluids in.  Another is potassium and sodium.  I played basketball with someone who had a really big problem with this and use to have to drink tomato juice and banana's to help with the problem.  She hated both.    Course there are easier ways to deal with the situation now but I'd start with the hydration.

Have a great time!  If you're still reading, in Quito take a tour to the equator, but go to the REAL equator at Inti Nan, not the monument equator

Yes is usually about hydration, especially after workouts.   In tris though, cramping on the run is usually from going too hard on the bike.

There are different opinions as to whether salt tabs work or not for hydration purposes.  Some pros rely on the extra sodium, some believe whatever is in your sports drink is enough.

Either way, cramps at night suck....

What does your weekend look like?

Sat - Metric century plus brick of undetermined length.  I have to say, I am a bit bummed that I am not in century shape anymore.  I took a lot of things for granted over the last couple years....

Sun - I would like to get an OW swim in, 1-1.5.  And a long run.  I am not following a plan, so probably in the 8-10 range.

Finished in up the week with a 7 mile run tonight. Going to look at real estate tomorrow, need to find a way to get to the pool in the morning or after we get home. I am going to try and knock off 60 miles on the bike on Sunday. I had another breakthrough in the pool last night, 600 yards without stopping.

You guys/gals are all killing it. Congrats on all the hard training. I sprained my ankle pretty good on a trail on Friday. Hope nothing is broken, but I am definitely on the shelf for a bit.

DOn't forget to RICE....

I got worked over pretty well this weekend.  Saturday did 75 miles on the bike, sorta between the metric century and the full century, up in Ojai.  Had to ride the tri bike, the rear der. cable on the roadie went south on me.  Weather was good, but a bit cold, but a long 10 mile or so section along the beach into a headwind did me in.  Was going to run afterwards but enjoyed a Shandy instead.....

Yesterday slept in a bit then went out about 11:30 and got in almost 9 miles up in the hills.  Legs were dead, run was slow, but went better than I thought it would.

I was stuck at 100 yards for a year, and once I felt like I was getting a good breath things have been getting better by leaps and bounds. I no longer feel like my shortness of breath is holding me back, more the muscles used when swimming. I am by no means fast, but was able to do 900 yards without stopping last night.
