Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge Kids, I have a 5K tomorrow and I'm worried about it. I haven't run in weeks, haven't trained properly in running in months, and I'm already psyching myself out believing that I'll be disappointed in myself during and after tomorrow's race. And because I haven't run outside at all this year (100% of my 'training' so far has been on a tready) I'm worried about re-injury - pushing myself too much on the pavement. And have I mentioned I hate running?! I like the idea of running, I love that I've run after I've ran, but actually don't enjoy the sport one little bit. Used to - used to happily do 1/2 marathon distances - running was how I lost the 50 lbs I lost in 2005 - but something's changed the past year or two. Lost my running mojo, somewhere. But I also used to hate swimming, so it's funny how tastes change over the years. When I decided to get back into tris this year (after losing last year due to a decimated shoulder) it was February, and it seemed like such a good idea at the time! I had 4-6 months to train for the races I'd chosen, that's plenty of time to increase speed and endurance for these short events ... yet here I am 3 weeks out from my first sprint of the year, and I'm terrified. I'm SO terribly undertrained ... and it's no one's fault but my own. I guess the moral of this rant is: I'm disappointed in myself because I had plenty of time to get ready (and lose this 20 lbs I've been carrying around since I got hurt last year) - but I blew it. I took the lazy path, haven't lost a pound and haven't increased my fitness level at all. But I'm taking it as a lesson. And starting today - things are going to change. I'm going to get my body and my athleticism back! Thanks for listening.

Regular 110 King George, VA | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge Emmanem - 2011-05-31 2:25 PM This month the Crushers are bringing you a Battle of the 3 Triathlon sports challenge. Rules: ~There will be 3 teams (Swim, Bike and Run) ~Each participant will need to pick a team/sport (your favorite or one you need more, etc) ~Teams members will set a goal for the sport in yards, sessions, minutes, miles, km, etc ~The team/sport with the highest percentage of goals completed wins.
I will try to get spreadsheets up today or tomorrow, for now just let me if you're interested and what team you would like to be on. Good luck to everyone this month! Hi Emmanem, I know we're over halfway through June, but I didn't know (well, actually forgot) that this Forum existed - I recently posted on the General Forum that I've made it halfway through my goal of running every day in June, and someone's response reminded me to look over here! So, is that okay if I join this challenge on the run team? My goal is to run every day in June for roughly 30 minutes per day (or 3 miles per day). Thanks, JeffK |

This sounded like me a few weeks ago. I went and did the race anyway, even though I'd tried really hard to talk myself out of it. LOL During the race, I talked to everyone next to me (although most people looked at me like I was insane), and I paid attention to everything around me. (Yay for cows.) No, I did not get a PR. But I went and did it, and afterwards, was glad that I'd gone.... |

I was so very grateful for her help. It was comedy at it's finest! She said I was doing something that she has never seen before and she needed to do some research. It was something having to do with a weird little twist I was doing. Regardless, I did some 50's and practiced my "flip turn" during each one. Even with my comical/hideous flip, my 50's are the same time as my 50's with an open turn. When I get these things mastered, my times are going to improve dramatically! She also worked on my swim form a little. Nothing major, though. Hahahaha... too bad you won't be flip turning in the lake. |

She sent me an email freaking and asking if she was over her head and whether or not beginners were welcome. She saw my "elite" ability to hang out at BT for x number months and post X number of times... I sent her a reply message explaining the posting system and that I am NO elite, still a beginner. No reply, so I think it's too late. |

Don't fret bike team! I had some stuff going on at the end of this week and racing/paintballing/bachelor party this weekend - but will be back full force this week. |

I think its that new math they teach in our public schools. Be careful though, you can't actually tell someone their wrong, you might hurt their self-esteem.... As for swimming, I'm just a swim session from hitting my goal. I'll probably up my goal for the month since I was swimming a lot more in the beginnning of the month. Come on swimmers, get in that water! Don't get me started... |

I understand completely. I had big plans to train all winter and build a wonderful base... I am in almost untrained shape at this point because after putting in run/bike effort over the winter I pretty much lost all gains when I stopped training for 2 months. And the swim... I was bad. All we can do is move forward from here!! From here out, regular training as the body allows. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: June Battle of the Triathlon Sports Challenge Well, I spent a brutal day in the sun yesterday. I decided to do the 8 hour MTB race instead of driving to Oregon. I ended up doing 73.19 miles with 9,097 ft elevation gain in 7:47. While really a nothing race for me, it was good training for my upcoming 100 miler enudrance MTB race. Funny thing, I originally planned to do a swim and dash today too. Hahaha... not a good idea. My legs and back are sore this morning. So, I'm probably going to just head over to the pool for a short swim instead. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Happy Father's day to the fathers! |

YOW ZERS You are one crazy hard core soul. Congratulations! Sounds like a nice swimmy is just the thing for recovery Now that I've once again significantly increased my goal but also updated my progress, the swim team is at 72%. Is that enough to overtake the bike team? |
