New user 239 Walterboro | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm racing the Parris Island sprint this Saturday. Other than that, I've been training for the Florida 70.3 in May. Taking a couple weeks off after the half and then it's on to my 20 week full ironman plan from the BT website. What plans are everyone else looking at using? |

New user 82 Gallatin, TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Been a warm early spring here in TN! Ran 8 on Sunday, swam 2600m on Monday, 1 hour spin today. Training to train with an early race goal of Memphis in May Oly. Got to 6 on the run and thought "only 20 to go" - then thought what am I thinking?!! I know, still early. Can't help feeling like I need to be there NOW! On with the training, IM plan starts in June. |

46 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Question: Can I drink my own drink during the swimming leg on IM Florida, between the first and second lap? If yes, can I leave the bottle in the beach instead of carrying it on the water with me? If yes (and this is the real question), can somebody watch that bottle all the time preventing others (competitors or general public) to take it, or would it be considered external help and possible DQ? Thanks |

Last year they ran out of cups for us real slow swimmers and were dumping it into our mouths from a container. |

New user 1 Montgomery | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey gals /gals, Just joined the site and spent all last night reading through people's race reports and reviews. Quick question. Looks like the T1 area is a nightmare to get through unless you are in the 1:05 swimmer. Can you clip in shoes to your bike to save time or is everyone just worried they will loose them in the insanity?
Cant wait IMFL2012 Mike |

Cant wait IMFL2012 Mike No. Only the pros are allowed to do that. Seriously it NOT THAT BAD in transition esp since they moved it inside. Is it tight and chaotic yes BUT its a HUGE improvement over the tents. Dark cramped tent with plastic chairs on the pavement VS well lit warm and carpeted? No brainer. Also its WAY bigger inside that in the tents. Find na spot on the floor sit down and go about your business. Its not a big deal. |

Member 186 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I stayed at the Edge Water last year on the ocean side and it was awesome. It's about 2.5 miles from the race site so not the most convenient but our room was like a new apartment with a flat top stove, microwave and full size fridge/freezer. I took pics of the room so if you want to see them just send me a PM. As far as my plan, I will get there on Wednesday and try to get everything done early to keep stress down. Do some walking around at the expo, ocean swim, and maybe even drive some of the bike course. |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We are staying at the Shores of Panama again, same unit. Just down the street, a quarter of a mile I think. I am arriving Wednesday afternoon and will be leaving on Sunday after the race. I'll swim on Thursday and Friday with a short bike/run on Friday too. And T1 was that bad! A mad house. But like someone said, just find a spot to sit down, I actually found a chair. The crowd wasn't my issue, I was just pretty discombobulated. Couldn't function properly. Putting on my shoes before my long pants, helmet before shirt , just couldn't get it together. It wasn't the crowd, it was me. This year everything will be in bags and I hopefully won't need as much because it will be warmer! enjoy, Duane

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread As much as I think we should not change time, be like Arizona and just keep the clocks ticking, I do like being able to go to boot camp then come home and still have time to get out on the bike for 45 minutes. I know there is a time and place for the trainer and a lot of my bike fitness last year came from structured workouts on the trainer, but getting out on the bike is just that much more fun! Have a fun charity 62 mi ride on Saturday. Unfortunately most of my peeps are in San Juan for the HIM this Sunday. I couldn't justify the price (race fee, bike transport, flight, hotel, meals, etc) for a HIM. I'm curious what others think. I really don't like to mix vacation and races in the same trip. It's not that I don't take a couple of extra days but I either like to vacation or go to a race. For example when I went to New Orleans. We went a few days prior and had a good time but I was always cognizant of the upcoming race. I had to watch what I ate and drank, how far I walked, when I got to bed. That's not a vacation. Yea I had a good time but I would have had a much better time without the race Loved the race though, I'd do it again. We did take a couple of days afterward and went to Biloxi on the way home so that was cool. So do you combine races and vacations? And yea, I am going to PCB on Wednesday before the race but again, I will take it easy, rest watch what I eat, drink, etc. To me that is NOT a vacation enjoy, Duane

Member 66 Santa Maria | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have heard alot of bad things about T1. What is the deal. Was it just disorganized. I did Cozumel in 09 and everything was great. Went to a rack got your bag, then to the changing tent, dropped your bag off on your way to the bike. Shoes and helmet at your bike. I am a little confused by all the different accounts I am hearing about. Also thanks for the info on places to stay. I think we are going to stay close to the start area as I have a 1yr old and 4 yr old and don't think my wife will want to walk all over creation. |

The last 3 years T1 and T2 are inside the hotel. This is a marked improvement over the tents. You run up the beach, the bags are organzied by number on the ground. Get your bag, run inside, do your business, hand your bag off to a volunteer and got to your bike. Bike shoes and helmet will be in IN your T1 bag. Is it crowded? yes. Might your not get your own dedicated volunteer? yes, be self suffficient and have a plan. No chair? sit on the floor. I will take warm, dry, well lit and carpeted over the tents where it was so dark you can hardly see, COLD, twice as crowded as the hotel space with 1/2 the chairs and have to stand on cold pokey pavement in your bare feet without the option of plopping down on the floor. Seriously its not that bad and I am a MOP swimmer. You have to focus on YOU and what you need to do not everyone elses chaos |

Regular 107 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We volunteered last year and stayed at the Laketown Wharf. The elevators are crazy slow but the condos are very nice and the price is not that bad. We volunteered as bike handlers in the afternoon so we watched the swim start from the balcony. It was an awesome view. I would rather watch the swim start from that balcony than at the beach. |

Veteran 212 Commerce, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread ya wanna place cheaper and more away from the crowds go out a bit on beach roade bout 5 miles and stay at the Flamigo.. I had a room last year right down on the beach,,very quiet..Found a great parking spot a road away from the transition / start area... I think I paid 70 bucks versus the high priced hotels down there..Had a great time. The Flamigo Motel is about a half mile from where the bike course turns north off of beach road. |

I came out of the water at 1:19. I could not find anywhere to set my bag on the ground in T1, much less room to change. There were guys lined up against the wall in the corridor leading to the changing area trying to get dressed. It was very, very crowded. As far as locating my bag and my bike, T1 is very organized. It was just the lack of room in the convention center that made things tough. |

Extreme Veteran 1018 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've never done an IM. Plan to in 2013. What are people changing into that requires one to be behind walls? I assume your tri suit is under your wetsuit. Could I just rip off the wetsuit, grab my helmet, glasses and take off on my bike outside the walls? |

Veteran 212 Commerce, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I would think that you could just grab your bag, step into the building, grab your shoes and helmet, drop your bag and head out the other door,,that would be a nice quick transition for sure. but when you return from the bike you will need to put your shoes and helmet back in that bag to get it back after the race.
