Member 24 Clarksville, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I think it is simple logistics. Most people have an easier time finding 3 hours on a weekend. I was also looking into moving one long event to a weekday. Just need to figure out how to get a 2 hour run in and be back to the house by 6:15 for Dad Duty. By the way, bought a new bike yesterday. I literally feel like I am 12 years old! Tinkered with it for 3 hours last night. Thanks Santa. |

Shortest route is 14 miles, probably won't work for many but, you might find it's easier setup than you thought. Also need to thank my work for sending me to Florida for the next 2 weeks where I can OWS, unlike at home with the freezing temps! |

New user 219 Bonney Lake | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hi group!! It has been a while since I posted, well a long while. I am like a few of you I have started my training now. I just like to train and am trying to stick to a plan I found online. Not sure what the plan is called or where it was from. It had me start a few weeks ago with base training but I have fallen on some leg injuries from other sports that have kept me from doing anything. I am very bummed out I had some small fun runs I wanted to do and I can only jog them slowly. I did one last week and ran my worst ever 5k, even slower than after my PCL knee surgery and Achilles surgery, I am very sad. However I know I have plenty of time to get fit for IMCDA. Still after last year I know what my body needs and this time off away form my plan is killing me. It is early on so I am with the better safe than sorry plan while in PT, but while I gain weight and some muscle tone I loose my fitness and all the speed I gained last year. I am going nuts!!! Just had to vent sorry. Good luck to you all in your training and happy holidays. |

Also need to thank my work for sending me to Florida for the next 2 weeks where I can OWS, unlike at home with the freezing temps! This is awesome! I am going to try it this Friday. I live in Phoenix, about 7 miles from work, so it might be a perfect solution this winter. |

Expert 1115 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Slidell4life, I hope it works out for you, it has been awesome for me, although during the winter months it's not nearly as easy for me due to the snow, ice and turning dark way too early. As soon as it starts getting even remotely decent for that kind of run, I will be back on it and the timing will be just about right leading into raceday. |

November is the first month that I can even consider running after work. |

New user 1 Portland OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I have also been generally using the Fink model as a guideline as. I think I set it up on Google Cal... I still free flow what works best in the week and then try to make sure it matches up to some extent. ical: https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/guqmjfhf5f8q27knjtrt8mos28%40gr... One of my biggest challenges is going to be getting my nutrition in line with my training - splurged a little over Thanksgiving, but now have the house stocked with healthy whole foods. Let the training begin! Good for you! I'm not going to do the detox on the diet thing until i get into January. I'll cheat a bunch on the way too. HA! |

Elite 2645 Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I need to book a week's vacation for my family AFTER the race. Is there somewhere a short drive from CdA where me, my wife, and 2 girls ages 3 and 1 can go to have fun? Theme park, or water park, or something for the babies? |

Member 24 Clarksville, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread There is a theme park just north of CDA about 20 minutes. I think it is called Silverwood (or something like that). It has roller coasters, smaller rides, etc. I took my kids there 2 years ago when they were 5 and 6. They loved it. There was also a water park near there but we did not go because it was pretty cold. This year we are road tripping to Yellowstone after the race. Obviously, a longer drive but should be amazing scenery. |

Member 24 Clarksville, MD | Subject: Clothing poll I know that the weather in CDA in June can be variable. That being said, I am curious to hear what people wore for the race in previous years. Specifically: What did you wear under the wet suit, on the bike, and on the run. Did you put emergency clothing in your special needs bags? |

Silverwood is the biggest theme park in the Northwest, 20 minutes north of Cd'A. Lots of rides for both big kids and little ones and has a big water park with kiddie stuff. |

Its legit. Plus there is LOADS of stuff to do in Spokane. You can put together a solid multiday vacation between Silverwood, Coeur d'Alene, and Spokane. |

Any locals know how long drive time is to Glacier NP? Make sure that you check to see how much of the park is open. That time of year as much as 1/2 the park is still snowed in some years. Just check about 2 week before you come and you should be fine. like it was said it is 4 hours to the park. |

We stayed in Whitefish, about 30 min from Glacier. It was easy access to Glacier, Big Mountain, and white water rafting. great trip, especially once the soreness in my legs started to weat off on Wednesday. |

Member 15 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread For those of you first timers still trying to decide which training program to go with, I recommend Don Fink's intermediate plan. I used it to complete my first IM last year - felt 100% prepared leading up to the event and race day went very well. There are many good plans, but after experiencing this one for myself, I'd recommend it to anyone. Good luck! -----

The main road (at least most of it) was open the year we went in 2008 and I believe that year had a more than normal snowfall. It didn't affect anything we did at the park as far as hiking and site-seeing. |

There are many good plans, but after experiencing this one for myself, I'd recommend it to anyone. Good luck! Glad to hear it! I'm using a "hybrid" of the intermediate and competitive plans. As best I can tell, there isn't much of a difference between the two except for the swim workouts, the bricks on Sat, and the extra 100rpm ride on Sundays. I'm going to attempt the competitive plan and then cut out the extra Sun ride/cut back the Sat brick if I'm feeling too worn out. At least, that is the plan now, on week 2. |
