Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad BernardDogs - 2012-01-15 6:15 AM Hello ... I used part of the Fight Club workout to test everything two days ago after finally getting things all set up. I rode for 35 minutes of the workout and all seemed to work just fine. Just now, I had hoped to take the 20 minute test, but my power is not registering. When I open the workout, my power is listed at 10 and then just stays there when I start pedaling. It doesn't move from 10 ... I proceeded through about 3 minutes of the warm up, was watching the instructions and the explanations. Saw my cadence change ... saw my heart rate change ... and saw the target power increase, but my registered power just stays at 10. I opened another workout just to see what was going on, at my power was also listed at 10 right from the start. I'm riding a CycleOps Fluid 2. Any thoughts? Troy Is your speed device paired? Check that first. You can also look under the device profile and see if the numbers change. You could also check your speed magnet/sensor on the bike. Sometimes those get moved and it won't register speed anymore. This is likely the case. I'm guessing you have a GSC10 or wahoo sensor that pairs both speed and cadence. Your device is picking up cadence, and that's what it's allowing it to pair. If you just adjust the magnet you should get speed and VirtualPower too. If you still have problems you can drop me a line at [email protected]. If we can't figure it out via e-mail we'll send you a debugging version that will tell us what's going on. -Nate |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad NewClydesdale - 2012-01-15 7:26 AM Nate, Just from this thread and my own experience the majority of your issues are with setting up the Speed/Cadence sensor correctly. Those magnets positions are notoriously unstable, and I've lost a few of them without knowing it in the past. Maybe you could add a few analysis checks in the code. Some messages like "Speed detected but no cadence - check pedal magnet" or "Cadence detected but no speed check wheel magnet" or "power spikes, please move your wheel magnet farther away from the indicator" If you don't want to put it in the main code you could have a diagnostics section? Just one more thing, but it might save you a lot of emails.
I like that idea! The TrainerRoad army answered the support request before I could! Looks like I should read through the thread before I respond . Thanks guys! Glad to hear everything's working for you Bernard. |

I hope to see more partnering from them with future workouts! |

17 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I am a very (VERY) beginner biker who signed up for TR when it was in BETA - did my first FTP test 6 weeks ago and was 163, tested again yesterday after following the beginner foundation/base workout program and am now 178. I am so happy with the progress and love the workouts on here. Next, it's on to the advanced base strength/endurance plan. Being a true beginner biker who has not ever ridden, I love the fact that I have the rides planned out for me and that they keep me honest and accountable to follow the power suggestions in the rides. I know the 6 week plan is not working on top end power and I'm so happy that I've seen that improvement. Thank you guys for a great product and even better customer service! |

I just finished that plan on Friday and I'm planning on doing the 8 minute test tonight. I can't wait I know Ive improved. I will let everyone know how it went tomorrow. Just curious what would be considered a "good" increase my FTP is currently 189. I realize these numbers are what they are but over 200 would be nice. |

Stress, experience, rest, genetics, ect. The more of a beginner you are the bigger improvement you'll make. That being said, you could go anywhere from 5-35 watts. 35 would be really really huge though. Was your last FTP tested with 8 min test? If not, I would do the 20 min test to make it consistent. Make sure you're rested too. If you road hard yesterday I would take a day off. Get a BIG fan setup and lots of cold water and good music! Then KILL that test! Dig DEEP! You should taste copper. Make those legs pistons. HTFU!!! If you do that, you'll see a nice increase . |

Veteran 221 Riverdal NJ | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Awesome thanks as always. I did both in the beginning i did an 8 minute and a 20 minute. I am much more consistent in my output now. Did a long run yesterday but in my current plan there is no day like today to do the test so I am really hoping for the best. I'm not sure I pushed as hard as all that the first time but I plan to dig deeeep tonight. Edited by jeeper9281 2012-01-16 12:50 PM |

Extreme Veteran 640 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Question - when I look at a workout via the web (Workouts section) and see that a workout has a TSS of 123, is that 123 at my FTP (160 right now) or at the default FTP of 200? I assume Intensity Factor has no relation to FTP and is consistent regardless of the athlete's individual attributes. |

I assume Intensity Factor has no relation to FTP and is consistent regardless of the athlete's individual attributes. IF and TSS are actually cacluated based on FTP. Here are a couple of links: http://support.trainerroad.com/entries/20644037-what-do-ftp-np-if-and-tss-mean http://www.ergomousa.com/default/assets/training-metrics.pdf From the second: IF is simply NP divided by FTP for a workout or a race. I think TSS is a combination of a number of other factors to basically see how fast recovery will be. |

Extreme Veteran 640 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Great links. But back to my original question - when I see a TSS listed for a workout (browsing the different workouts, not reflecting on my past career rides) on the website, am I seeing the same number everybody else sees when browsing workouts? Or are these numbers taking into account the FTP saved in my profile? |

Veteran 503 Bedford, NH | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad TSS is the same for everyone. Your 1 hour workout at a given IF will result in the same TSS for me if I do my workout at the same IF for the same duration regardless if your FTP is different than mine. So our FTP may be different, but TSS will be the same. Does that make sense? |

This is a random ride from the TrainerRoad Ride page: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/15563 The I see a TSS of 113, this should be based off of the riders FTP of 224, not off of my FTP of 203, or yours of whatever it happens to be. EDIT: Actually the TSS at the top shows 112, the TSS by the line item Workout shows 113. Not sure the difference. Maybe Nate can answer.

The last one was a couple weeks back so maybe I still had something left at the end although I don't remember that being the case. The proof in my eyes is right there. An increase in FTP of 36. If you aren't using trainerroad you should be. Not sure how to post links but my profile is on trainerroad is DCHJ9281 if anyone wants to check out my progress. |
