Friday...rest day yea!  Had a nice run during my lunch break yesterday and it was beautiful out.  I was suppose to run and hour but I completed my run a little quicker than expected.  I didn't take my watch and didn't think I had enough time to do another 1.5 mile lap; getting faster because when I go back I realized I could have done that. So instead, I added some stair climbing, 6 flights!  Still didn't fill up my hour but the stairs really made up for the additional 10 mins missed.

Oh I simply must share:

I had the best run ever yesterday.

I think I have rarely felt as good doing anything as I did for the first 7k of that run. It was awesome, it was easy, it was smooth, it was almost nirvana. The last 6k were pretty good too.

Here's hoping that has happened to you or will some day soon.

I'm about to head to the gym with my fiancé. Our fitness challenge has officially started... I'm trying to lose weight and he's trying to put on muscle weight. We have 1 month and whoever loses/gains the most wins. It's good motivation for us both. I missed my bike ride yesterday. I passed out after dinner and didn't wake up until almost 10. I've really got to make sure I workout before dinner.one good thing is James and I have done really well with cooking since the 1st. We've found all sorts of nutritious and yummy recipes to try. I've also been eating a lot more fruits and veggies ok well I'm off to go for a run at the gym.

Congrats Darren on the great run.  There are times when running can absolutely suck - then then there are runs that make it all worthwhile,  Enjoy your beer - youve earned it!

There's a lot of good news on this board - good job, everybody!

I missed my workouts yesterday due to waking up late (see: early morning exerciser) and then coming home to my superintendent patching and painting three rooms of our apartment. Lovely! It's alright, I fit in a run this morning and a nice easy trainer ride after work, which means in the scheme of things I only missed a short run. Yay!

Weekend plans include a swim and weights tomorrow morning, probably a trail run in the afternoon, and something (I'm thinking more trainer work during the 1:00 NY Giants playoff) on Sunday. Have a great weekend, and happy happy hour Friday!

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Glad to see that you all are doing so well with their exercise and eating!

I had a pretty good workout this afternoon - went to the pool and swam 400 and did 30 minutes of aqua jogging.  I was pretty stoked since today marked 8 weeks since I began to exercise again.

After I was swimming - I started talking to the the guy in the lane next to me and he and I commiserated over our plantar faciitis.  He mentioned that he had run the Boston Marathon for the past ten years.  There is no way that I would ever be able to qualify for Boston - but he mentioned that I could run it officially if I helped out with this years race.  Anyone every heard that people can run boston officially other than by qualifying or by raising a boat load of money.  I live 10 miles from the start and I would love to do it in 2014 as a way to keep me motivated.

Have a great weekend!

Weighed myself tonight and am down to 194.5. 8.5 lbs since Tuesday evening.  Very pumped.  Simply cut portions in half and haven't had barley's since hockey game on Monday.  Also, not eating past dinner has helped.  I have been drinking serious water as well.

I feel the 4:45 blues.  I am up anywhere from 4:45-5:30 depending if I have to go into gym or can run at home on run days.

1:35 on the spin bike tomorrow. dreadful.  I may get an extra few in on the treadmill, and maybe do some crunches.  Will definitely reward with a spa or sauna!  Hopefully it's 102 deg. +.

Great job! 8lbs did you cut off an arm?Smile

Seriously that is great, 8 less pounds you have to haul around swimming, biking and running!!

Thanks.  I think it was shocking to my eat everything in sight holiday diet when I managed portions.  I slowed down today.  I only lost a lb.  That's good, I plan on making this more permanent this time.  No more YO-Yoing.

Happy Friday!

I also had a great weigh in this morning.  I'm proud to say my weight will never gain start with the number 2!!  That's a promise to myself that I intend to keep!  Weighed in at 199.8 lol as close I could get, but nonetheless I have reached my first weight goal.  The next one is to be 185 by my first tri, which is Marineland sprint on 4/15.

Also was able to get in the water today.  Was able to do 1200 yds.  The temp was beautiful, no where near the 80* they said it would be.  Definitely in the mid-70's.  It felt great!

Weekend training plans:

Saturday: 30-45min stationary bike

Sunday: Most likely on off day & celebrating my parents 30th anniversary!

I will make sure start something for the swim seminar.  I haven't forgotten just got caught up with a volunteer thing yesterday.

Way to go.  Keep up the strong effort and you will continue to meet those goals.

I think it's just a first week shocker to the system.  I'm gonna keep it up.  I think my target is somewhere's between 160-170.  That's more standard for a 5'6"er like myself.

One more.

Biked for 1:25 on the spin bike inside the Y today.  Not a huge fan.  finished it off with some crunches and leg raises.  treated with a hot tub.

I coach a special needs hockey club here in town.  We practice on Friday's, and it really is the highlight of my week.

Will imbibe in Deschutes Inversion IPA tonight.  As my old first seargent would say "They make it by the keg, but you drink it by the glass.  There's no way to keep up."  Moderation is the key.

Tomorrow:  rest

Sunday:  8.5 miler (longest run this training cycle to date.)

hey, I have never heard of that. would be cool though.

I ran a bit yesterday with this guy. he was flying right, but I was bored so I sped up to chat with him, he was like mid 40s or something, absolutely flying, like sub 5min/k pace, hardly breathing hard. I was like, "I am doing 30k" he was like "training for a marathon" I Was like "yeah, you" he was like "no, did a couple, did boston twice" I was like "oh ur pretty fast" he was l ike
"yeah, did sub 3 hours a couple times". Ha.

Yeah, no joke he's fast! Sub 3 is sick! But you kept up with him, sooo....

Re: volunteering at Boston: do they save a guaranteed entry spot for you? I know for NY if you're local they have a program where you complete X number of races and volunteer once they'll let you in for the next year, but Boston's an entirely different animal, especially with the new standards.

Kevin - your momentum is excellent. I feel good about getting my workouts in, but it makes me crazy hungry to the point where portions and snacking is a big problem, but it looks like you've got that handled. Great job!

For me, I just finished the last week of what my work charmingly calls "mandatory overtime," so I'm looking forward to less time sitting at a desk and more time on the roads / pool / trainer / etc. This morning I managed 1000 yards int he pool and 20 minutes of weights right after. I'm going to hit some nice trails near my Trader Joe's before I go grocery shopping later on... but I might take a nap first. Laughing

Have a great weekend!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Thanks for the thoughts about Boston... I will check it out and see if anything comes of it.  I;m just trying to create a future to ensure I continue to exercise.  Someone in another post today mentioned that they were done yo yoing and I would like to second that.  The last 20 years have been all about exercising for 6 months and then sitting on my for 2 years... I need to make that pattern a thing of the past by always having something to do in the future.

Today was incredible in New England.  The temp hit 58 and I went out for a ride and went 15 miles.  Tonight there will be beer (homebrewed milk stout) and ribs.  Its gonna be good!

Enjoy those long workouts today or tomorrow!

Some family is coming here tomorrow and my hubby is sending my gym bag with them. If he packed what I asked for I'll have my swim and run gear as well as my gym membership card so will be able to do some actual tri training.
