TriPirate, you're in.

Everyone, start thinking about goals. Weight, distance, speed etc. Let's do it in both March and April so that we can compare and see what triathlon beasts we have become!

Hi, any room left? I am new to all this, about 4 week's intro training for my first tri season. Have a mini sprint I am signed up for in April, then a sprint in June. Have about 6 months of running prior to starting this plan. Would love a little guidance in this whole process.

Well i think the knee pain was a overuse thing, hit ibuprofin hard and ice the area all last night.  This mornings run I could hardly feel it.  So thank goodness!  Someone at work put the scare to me and thought it could be a torn mingus tendon???  He said once it is torn surgery was the only way to fix it.  I was a mess all afternoon.

Things are changing abit on paper route and i think I'll be adding a new section - perfect for biking.  I would easly double my miles and make a few more bucks to boot.   Now comes the hard part.  Doing something new!!!!

Have a super Wednesday - this week is flying by.

Just saying hello...I get the updates and read them through my phone, but it's too complicated to post that way...and when I'm home, I have a tough time getting on the laptop. So I apologize that I appear to be more of a lurker, but will try to get on more. Nothing exciting with me and training for my olympic in late May. Just grinding it out in the pool. Although I FINALLY got out on my bike in the real world Tues! I teach 2 spin classes (RPM) a week in addition to weightlifting classes and so that's been most of my conditioning for the last few months. But of course you gotta get out on the real road, so it was nice to get back to that. I had gotten my bike tuned up and she performed great for me. Sadly I did tip over when coming to a stop - just couldn't get my clips out in time...felt so stupid, but no harm done. Now I'm looking at getting some better aerobars. The roads here are awful and the flip-down pads I have rattle something terrible. I just need more time in the day to get all the exercise in plus handle the family obligations! I don't know how you full time workers get it done! Have a great day...strength train class tomorrow and mid-range swim. Meeting with the YMCA director tomorrow who used to be the swim coach at Alabama and he's gonna help get me set up with some more swim drills

My March goal: get faster on the bike and run. I have a mini sprint(400 swim, 6 mile bike, 2 mile run) i'm doing in April (first ever triathlon) and hoping to finish in under and hour.

My running has been steadily improving but I feel like my progress has slowed down in the last month. I'm trying to incorporate one speed workout every week so hopefully I will see some improvement. Right now I am averaging about 9:10 mile (very slow I know). I'm hoping to see that down under 9 by the end of March....no idea if that is a reasonable goal.

I'm less hopeful with my bike leg because I am riding a mountain bike with slicks, so I know my times aren't going to be crazy good. I started very very slow, but have gotten faster, especially after switching the tires. My goal is to be able to do 15mph for the mini sprint. Kind of think this is the fastast I will be able to do given my current state.

Any suggestions on workouts for speed on the bike? Running I have been doing fartlek workouts and am trying to get to a track to do speed workouts there, but on the bike I am pretty clueless. Also any input on how realistic I am being with these goals?

Goal for March- lose a another 5 lbs before Oceanside, continue training hard

Did a triathlon this past weekend.  I did well.  Placed 6th out of 55 and 90th overall out of 897.

I did have a mishap yesterday.  Too a spill on my bike on the San Gabriel River Bike Path.  So goofball wasnt paying attention and i braked to avoid a collision.  I went over the handlebars.  Sprain wrist and banged up knee but i ll survive.

Hope everyone is continuing their training.

Work work work that is all I have been doing!  Last week was a recovery week - great timing as I really didn't log many hours in.  Moved everyday but just hardly.

Ok - not sure what todo for long run tonight - repeat 7.7 and try to beat last weeks time - or just go for 8 miles and call it a day?  Or back off this week,  i have increased mileage for the last 4 weeks.  What should i do?

You roadies/triathletes really need to mountain bike more.  Crashing is a given.  If I don't rub a few trees or launch myself over the bars twice a week then I feel like I am not pushing it hard enough.

Seriously, recover quick.

Well I did it - new paper route has been rode hard!  Best hills in town and my legs were burning when i was done this morning!  Added 30 min to my morning ride, not sure on miles yet but wow...great ride.

Ran to fencing last night - only 4.7 miles but!!! sub 11 min mile.  Oh baby!

I agree - crashing is a weekly thing for me, slipping on ice, stalling out on bumbs, tire being pulled in wrong direction, now be it I'm never going to fast but crashing is part of biking.  For MTBing at least.

Hope everyone has super Tuesday!

Yowch!  That does not sound good.  I hope you have a speedy recovery.  I've been reading some articles about injuries and whatnot and some of them sound downright nasty.  Good job on your numbers!!

March goals:

Run 1 mile without stopping (this is a huge goal for me because I'm only able to run about 3 mins at a time, right now), lose 5 pounds, start swimming at an indoor pool, bike 15 miles (no matter how long it takes).

We'll see how this goes!!
