Do ALL bosses just suck the life out of you? Or is it just mine.
Tell me a story about a great boss. If that exists anymore.

My call yesterday started with an apology for how she chewed me out because, well, she was in a bad mood. That made me feel much better that she acknowledged she was wrong for no good reason and apologized for it.

It's a start...

There are good ones out there. Some years ago I worked for a guy that simply said here's what need and by when - then left us to it. I got to run my team my way so long as we delivered. I remember one instance where we screwed up royally and he defended us like crazy in front of the Board - then when we got back together behind closed doors he let us have it (and rightly so.)

I do not want to work today.  I would say I don't want to be at work, but I'm currently in the home office, wearing shorts.  So that blows that excuse.

Maybe I need some motivation.

How would you like me to motivate you, the easy way or the hard way?

Oh, the opportunities.  Let's not do anything the easy way.

Do you need some websites to visit to motivate you?  Or . you could do my taxes for me .. for 2010 and 2011 .. I can guarantee you'll feel better about yourself after that.

You haven't done your taxes for the last two years?  Who are you, Wesley Snipes?

My boss is ok, one of the best I have ever had. Gave me paid time off for my divorce when I had to go into court. Attempts to hang with us and be funny.. Attempts. But the best thing he does is he only hires people that will mesh with our group meaning have a sense of humor that sides on sophomoric so I have a nice work environment.  He does have very long meetings where he likes to talk about himself or show pictures of him in the 70’s and 80’s but I will give him that for liking to come to work.

Morning Everyone. today is a great day. Woke up feeling refreshed, had a great breakfast and came to work and just got off the phone with the TEAM RWB COO talking about how I can get more involved on a larger scale. I think I may have found my calling!!!

My former boss was an avid cyclist and all we did is talk about biking and go on long rides on the weekends.

God, it sounds like a bromance.

I was a great boss to my employees!!  I did everything I could to make them feel appreciated and the reason my business was successful and never micromanaged (cuz I'd rather hid in my office and play on the computer) They flourished and worked harder than I did!

I've never had a great boss though.  Well only for about 6 months I worked under the CFO at a rehab hospital and he was awesome .. super super motivating and left me alone and let me do things the way they made sense to me as long as they got done.  He was generous and helpful.  Then he dropped dead of a massive heart attack when we all went out dancing one night.  His replacement was a typical financial micromanaging tool.

I had a boss like your great boss. But he got promoted so is now my bosses boss. I miss those days so much.

I find that it comes and goes. Right now my boss (in fact everyone I work for) is awesome, but in the recent past ... god help me it was horrible. Not just horrible on a day to day level but horrible on a "out to get you" kinda way.

Won my hubby a bunch of money one night at craps that way.  I just kept banging back the hard ways and he just kept letting them ride.

I also think I am a good, fair, consistant boss, who really wants the best for my employees whether it is here or somewhere else.

BUT I also thought a lot of my guy friends would never sleep with me if I came onto them or ask them to, BOY I was wrong on that one.  They all said sure when I asked.

One of the BIGGEST things in life I had to learn, is that people do things different ways, and if it works in the end?  Let them do it their way.

It's that way with engineering, and in marriage.

I STILL cringe when she stacks the dishwasher all disorganized and I swear they won't get as clean, BUT, I have rarely seen a dirty dish come out.  And if it does?  Just rerun it.  Running the washer twice is easier than lecturing/arguing on how to stack a dishwasher, I have found.

Not to say TANers are NOT good bosses.  But I'm sure EVERY boss thinks they are a good boss.

I know that I could be better.  I'm poor at saying "thank you" for doing your job and MBWA (what we called Management By Walking Around).

You know, table touching and checking in with everyone.  I just expect everyone to do their job and leave them to it.  But also don't give praise for just doing it.
