Passing out PowerBar has left me sweating through my little yellow shirt, more so than any runs I have done lately. I can't say why, exactly, but that's just a really hot image. Somehow I was expecting that response... I'm thinking right about now Jen is wishing she hadn't asked, after all It's like the Manatee Radio Rush Hour Show about this time on weekdays! I know, right? Now where the hell is Jen? Hmmmm? My boss walked in and gave me work. Apparently the results section of the paper I am writing "was a mess." Oh well. That's what I get for trying to do it on my own the first time. |

Paul Ryan said he did a marathon in "two fifty-something" when it was actually 4:01. Admittedly, it was 20 years ago and he later admitted his error. It just seemed fudgy to some people ( = runners) but in any case it's become some fun FB fodder. |

I think it was fudgy (then again, I'm a runner.) Whatev, not anything worth making a big stink about but certainly noted. And pretty excited about my prospects of having a Paul Ryan certified world record in the marathon. |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Straight-Up Ridiculous Manatees Part 5 - FULL Just signed up for the sept. 23d Escape to Miami oly distance race. it's suppose to be a difficult, yet fun race. for the swim start you are ferried to an island off Miami beach where you jump off the boat and swim back to Miami Beach. The water can be a bit rough as you cross the intercostal and this time of year there is always a chance of really rough water from hurricanes messing about off shore. The bike and run are completely unshaded and involve multiple causeway crossings ( Florida hills). Temps should be in the 90*s by run time, if not sooner. Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure why I signed up for this! Edited by amd723 2012-09-05 2:11 PM |

When I did Ragnar Miami any of the legs that included a causeway crossing was noted as EXTREMELY DIFFICULT due to the elevation gain. As a Seattleite this made my day. I go up 560' of elevation just from work to home. Edited by Asalzwed 2012-09-05 2:16 PM |

We did pull four times then just kick for about 5 seconds (during which time I made little forward progress), and catch-up drills with a fast kick and some others. I tried to focus on the back & glute muscles like the video showed. I did notice that I was almost keeping up with a piglet in the next lane! After the drills coach had planned he had us do 8X25 where we focused on streamline. He wanted us to push off and stay underwater as long as we could (wearing fins). The first couple of times I floated to the top almost immediately (why aren't I that buoyant when I need to be?) but after that I got the hang of it and was staying under for as long as my lungs could take it! We were using fins. I could see some of the swimmers doing dolphin kick, I didn't even begin to try that. Over all a good day at Masters. Oh at the end of practice Coach Andie asked why I'm not doing the Patriot Tri this weekend. (I'd sent her an e-mail that I could volunteer). I told her that since it's a seeded pool start I didn't like the idea of starting at the back. She said there would be a few people behind me. Not helpful. DH says it gives me more opportunity to pass people Still willing to volunteer Hmmmm maybe you should do it? It will give you more opportunity to pass people DOOOO EEEEEEET (Okay, I only have one stock phrase that I ever respond with in terms of races) That said, volunteering is awesome. THAT said, volunteering (especially for a sprint) is more tiring than just racing the darn thing. Seriously. As I'm at work now, the best I can figure is I've had too much coffee and that clouded my judgment.amd723 - 2012-09-06 3:10 AM Just signed up for the sept. Now THAT is a Manatee kind of race and decision! Well done! At least you have some excuse. Everybody loves that race.amd723 - 2012-09-05 2:22 PM Asalzwed - 2012-09-05 2:13 PM Whenever I am on vacation with either of my sisters, we run together and I always complain about the hills in whatever route we're doing. Inevitably, I'm the only one who thinks there was any elevation change at all. We do have hills ( short, but generally steep) not to far from where I live, so I've been trying to ride and run on them fairly regularly now. I hate them.amd723 - 2012-09-05 2:10 PM Just signed up for the sept. 23d Escape to Miami oly distance race. it's suppose to be a difficult, yet fun race. for the swim start you are ferried to an island off Miami beach where you jump off the boat and swim back to Miami Beach. Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure why I signed up for this! Sounds like a great race!!!! Awesome! Funny you say that about the causeway crossings. When I did Ragnar Miami any of the legs that included a causeway crossing was noted as EXTREMELY DIFFICULT due to the elevation gain. As a Seattleite this made my day. I go up 560' of elevation just from work to home. Wanna do the Miami Marathon say...2014? Yeah |
