207 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Well when you are use to 15% tops a run in 45 + is crazy humid. This morning i ran at 5am it was 84 degrees and 52% when i left the house in chandler. Many mornings lately have been over 60% which is crazy for us.... and i am not getting much rain where i live so it sucks lol... but some great light shows! |

Veteran 820 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread And the status of the day is I have no pool until November. Originally my pool went down in July for a week because of a pump problem, then they said Aug 18th, well that came and went. Now they are saying November sometime. Well I guess I'll have to figure something out. I guess maybe its not in the budget to get fixed sooner being a military gym. I can go off base but a couple of things, it would no longer be free, and no longer be 200 yds from my desk. There is also this thing called time, I can get in a 40 minute workout on a normal lunch hour, 1hr 30 min in an extended one. Going off base I could get about 45 min in on and extended workout. Not much else time for swimming, I have 3 kids 4 and under to get ready in the morning, and pick up by a certain time. It's not the end of the world though, last year I only swam 4 times from Aug 19th- raceday in November and was fine. |

It showed 115 in my car at one point today and you throw in just a little spike in humidity on top of that and it's unbearable. |

207 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread totally over this fukin heat and humidity her in Phx. Race day will be beautiful.... cold in the morning and nice on the run! But right now it is just plain stupid. I ran today at 420 am and it was 87 with 52% humidity. There is no way for me to keep hydrated as my body overheats. even with tech gear shorts, shirts, socks i am a soaking wet mess after 30 min. I am excited and ready to race (complete) and ready to sleep in past 4 am!!! Everyone post your races here when you complete them will keep us motivated! Nathans Olympic triathlon ---- goal is 2:29 Soma half ironman ---- primary goal is to have a great long day. ---- under 6 hours ---- perfect race... 5:38 Will post results when they are done... need a race soon to keep me going!! |

I agree - It's been BRUTAL here in PHX. Yesterday was, in my opinion, the worst day of the summer so far. I did a 3,500 swim workout in what felt like bath water. The director of swim told me as I was leaving that the water was 87 degrees. |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread thanks everyone for your feedback. I guess the reason why I was asking is that I am hoping that things will be easier on me on race day then training right now with this high humidity. Originally posted by krazytallchick I am curious is it easier to train in a hotter drier climate then a hot and very humid climate? Here in SC it has been miserable with the humidity (I don't remember it ever being this bad before) anyway I had a major shut down yesterday on the run and I am just hoping that the humidity just got to me and with that it got me thinking which is worse the southeast climate or the southwest. |

Member 45 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Hey guys joining the thread. Very excited to get your feed back and read your post. With that said, I do have a cycling question below, hope you can give me some advice. So with roughly two months to go before tapper, I am a bit worried with my bike performance. To be fair, every race that Ive done, i have always been worried about my bike time even do I exceed my expectations. So I may just freaking myself out yet again. But, I feel like I can do any distance, however the speed isn't up to standard. I feel like I can't get past 14.5-15.5 mph average. My biggest fear is not making the bike cut off. Any recommendations and or drills you would suggest that would help me get faster? I do have a strong swim and my running is very well. The bike is the only thing that is scaring me. I appreciate your help! Name: Atilio What is your Ironman resume? 70.3 CALIFORNIA - OCEANSIDE 2013 Why did you choose Ironman Arizona? IMAZ is the closest to LA/OC What are you goals for IMAZ 2013? To finish. This will be my first full. What are you most looking forward to? Crossing the line. Ive had this goal since I was very young and now I just want to put myself in the best position to accomplish it. |

207 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread You will make the bike cut off.... the course is pretty flat with a slight climb out beeline that you get to blast back in to tempe from! really it is easy 25mph with barely no pedaling. Get that out of your head. You will make it... you will do better than you think... and you will finish! 7 hours is a 16 mph and i bet you do even better than that! I dont have any suggestions but T.I.T.S Keep riding and push yourself when you ride your shorter rides. |

We lucked out yesterday with the weather. If it wasn't for the clouds, we would have spent 2-3 hours in 100+ degrees. Anyways, I met up with some folks at Tempe Center for Performing Arts on Tempe Town Lake (not far from where IMAZ transition will be). We road the IMAZ bike course on the way out but kept going east on the Beeline as opposed to turning around at Shea. We did three loops on the Beeline from Shea to Bush Highway (Saguaro Lake exit). After the third loop, I headed west on the Beeline to McDowell and road home (live in Old Town). A good course with wide shoulders although it gets boring. That said, every century is boring Edited by devilfan02 2013-09-08 3:56 PM |

Expert 1224 Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa. | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread So I'm going back and forth on what to wear. I have a pretty comfortable one piece tri suit that I can easily wear the whole day during Olys and HIMs but I'm not sure what to think for IMAZ. Are you all going with 2 piece suits, tri suits, or completely changing for the bike (bike shorts and jersey) and for the run (running shorts and running top)? I plan to live off the course on the run and will have plenty of food storage on the bike but I don't want to overthink this any more than I already am. |

Member 347 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I plan on wearing the same tri shorts all day. For the bike, I need the storage space for food so I'm going to wear a bike jersey. In T2, I'll ditch the bike jersey and change into a tri top for the run. Like you, I plan on using the run course nutrition so the tri top works perfectly for my gel flask. |

New user 62 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm doing bike shorts/ jersey on the ride (storage and comfort), and then doing a full change into two piece tri-suit for the run. Might take an extra minute, but from what I've read its nice to have some fresh shorts to switch to for the run (particularly if you are skipping the porta-potties). If you're inclined, you may also want to read some of the race reports from 2010 when they had some rain/hail/winds/cooler bike temperatures. A lot of folks said that the arm warmers were life savers that day. |

Veteran 266 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I prefer taking the extra time to do full changes - but that is because I have different sets of clothes that I am more comfortable in; On the bike I prefer bib shorts, and then do a full change for the run; based on my other 2 IMs well worth the time for a back-woods shower and a fresh set of running clothes. If you are going for a Kona slot probably not recommended, but my best advice is go with what you are comfortable in. If you are comfortable wearing a trisuit and not changing in T2 don't change; if you have a favorite cycling outfit that differs from you favorite running attire, take the time to change - it is a long day and comfort is the key. |
