KWDreamun - 2013-02-08 6:49 AM This cold thing is killing me, the rabbit is eating me up..again no running today...it has been almost a week w/ no running gggrrrllll........

You and Pink had a great start - rest up and you will be right back at it!

How do people in Florida get colds though?  Is it even cold there???

lol Yes it get cold here...we are in N. FL. bbbrrrr  I had uncontrollable shivers prior to the HM and my feet felt like rocks until mile 3.  What we have here is HIGH humidity and when it does get cold, it is cold...now we don't have to wear all the clothes some of ya'll have to wear..I'm very lucky in that aspect...lol  I'll just leave it at that..lol

That is a great point about the humidity - being in Buffalo our 20's is colder than single digits in Denver and places I have been at that are super dry!

The great thing about living here is that I ran in high 20's last night and this morning without gloves and a light hat and just a sweatshirt and sweatpants.  That is a heat wave compared to some of the bike temps I have ridden in

Yeah, I love Denver for that lack of humidity aspect.  Once year I went to Va Beach in Jan.  It was 45 Degrees, but I was colder there than I was all winter back home (and that included skiing in   0F )

Calf is feeling good, but I'm taking the weekend off running anyway.  I've done a bunch of icing and rolling of the calf and foot, at this point it's hard to tell if it's tight because of all the massage/rolling, or the injury...  I don't think it's any big deal, but no need to rush back in.  I'll try running on Monday and reset my volume back to a base level and begin the ramp again.  Not worried about this challenge in the sense that it will either happen or it won't, but I'm not going to do something silly just to get in miles.  Not giving up though, because there is still plenty of time left in the year.  My ultimate weekly goal is in the 30mpw range which if I get there in a few months will be plenty to carry me over the top.

In looking back at my logs I do think I ramped up too much too quick, despite thinking at the time I was being very conservative.  I'm going to reset back to the basics and stick to the letter of the 1-2-3 law.  Meaning I'll be shortening my short runs, as opposed to lengthening my long runs.

Sweet. You'll be fine. I have only had one set back since running. Had to take a little time off. Muscles, but got it worked out and no problem since.

man down!  I pulled up with a real tight calf two days ago during a run, and there was some pain radiating into my foot afterwards.  It's feeling OK right now, but it's still a bit tight.  I'm thinking some kind of mild calf strain, but don't really know.  Regardless, I'm going to take some time off running to let it sort out a bit.  And just when I started gaining ground Undecided

how the calf feeling? I'm battling a nagging leg thing going on right now myself...my 39 day in a row running streak may be coming to an end soon to rest this thing up. Not only was my goal to run at least 1000 this year, really I hoped to run at least 100 every month. Feb is gonna me a stretch, have to avg like 3.75 or something like that every day for the rest of the month if Im gonna hit 100...damn Feb for only having 28 days!!!

I always struggle with injury too.  Do you try to train thru it or rest.  The older I get, rest seems to work better..ssshhh don't tell my wife that because I generally do not take that route.  You might want to try gently rolling it, then stretching it and then icing it.  Also if you decide to run, maybe put on some compression sleeves to help support the calf.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

karl

Ive been known to train injured at times...but I try to keep it at a minimum instead of totally sidelining myself. Gonna try to baby it on the next couple of runs and see if I can work through it.

Another 7.63 miles done.  I had to match the rabbit for today, then I matched him for tomorrow since I won't be able to run, and then played catch up.

Long run on Sunday... gonna get that rabbit!

Noticed that Miss Kate just slipped into 2nd (or 3rd if you count Superman Darren's mileage).  She did it so quietly.  Dang, didn't even see her go by.

Thanks.  Getting in the mileage is rough for me.  I never really know how my work schedule is going to go, and I have a 24 hour shift (at least 24 hours) every 3 days.  As long as I can keep doing >5.5miles per run, I'll catch and pass that rabbit soon enough!!

Well after 40 days in a row of running, I had to force myself to sit it out yesterday This nagging leg pain seems to wanna hang around and spoil my fun. From looking at a leg muscle diagram it looks like the Tensor Fasciae Latae muscle that runs from the hip to the knee. Hope I can get this thing under control soon!

Today, instead of coming straight hopme from duty, I decided to go to the gym to use a stationary bike to do an Olympic style brick.

On the ride, I managed to shave about 18m31s off the time it toook me in the OBX Olympic Triathlon in September (I'm gonna kick that race's in 2013, Beth).  I did that ride in 1:23:44; I did it today in 1:04:53.  Awesome, right?

Wait, it gets better.  I set off with the goal of beating 1:10:00 on the run.  To date, my best 10K was 1:04:05.  That was set as a stand alone run, NOT after riding a bike for 25 miles.  Today's run was a 6.38 miler that I finished in 1:05:44.  At the 10K mark, my time was 1:03:51.6... 13.2 second IMPROVEMENT.

"Operation Breezy Point Domination" relies upon only one thing at this point... I figure a way to get my butt into open water to train for the swim.  At the rate I'm going, domination will simply become absolute destruction.  I WANT MY GOLD!!

Think I'm adding another run goal for the end of 2013, since I'm gonna be a running fool all year....think Ill be in prime condition and shoot for a sub 20 5k! I know I've got a lot of work ahead of me to acomplish this, I haven't ran a stand alone 5k in a couple of years time then was 21:57. Gonna be tough but Im adding it to the list anyway!

That sounds like a great goal - as a corollary challenge - who is up to trying to drop 2 minutes off their 5k PR this year ????  (SPEEDKNIGHT - you would need to drop 5 the way you are crushing your 10K's even in training Surprised)

The funny thing is that my 5K time isn't improving much at all.  Toward the end of 2012, I did a "5K" in 27:??, but it turns out that the course was a wee shy of 3 miles.  As it stands, then, my best 5K looks to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 31:50, with 33:22 being my rough average over the last 10 runs.  :-(  Certainly, I can throw my name into the "Drop 2min Off Your 5K" challenge.  I'll just push myself harder at the front of my next few runs.

I'm also thinking of throwing some speed work into my mix.  I'm loving the fact that I'm feeling able to puch my mileage more and more, but I'm wanting to turn faster times.  That doesn't seem to be coming to me.
