I have the madison marathon tomorrow. I still have some pain when running. It might not be the most fun i've ever had. Dr. has assured me that no permanent damage can be done.

Oh well, pain is temporary, quitting is forever.

Tom, sorry to hear about your foot.  I know missing this race would have affected your 2007 goals, and I wasn't going to say anything since I'm not a doctor or a coach, and I wasn't about to go against what your doctor said.  But if it was up to me, I don't think I would have advised you to run if your foot hurt prior to the race.  Telling you that you can't do permanent damage, knowing that there would still be pain, doesn't seem very responsible for a doctor - especially if he had to have known that re-injuring it (although not "permanently"  ) will likely now affect the rest of your 2007.   My unsolicited 2 cents worth.

I hope your recovery goes well.

Youve never done a sprint?  Ha- it will be a walk in the park for you

I have the Great Midwest Relay- 12 of us run from Madison to Chicago- we all run three times- so Ihave a total of like 17.6 miles or something like that.  Our team has 9 guys and three girls. Should be fun- sorta crazy- we are only allowed 2 vans- 2 vans for all of us and all of our clothes/ food and stuff AND I am thinking we will be pretty stinky    I imagine I will have some good stories though.  I think one of my runs will end up being at like 1:00 am!

I am getting REALLY nervous about my HIM in less then 3 weeks... like almost puke like nervous.

I have done a race similiar a few times the Great Lakes Relay. 12 people on a team, 70 or so teams from Lake Erie to Lake Michigan across the state. 3 very stinky days for sure. It was always in mid July so about 90 degrees.

Best of luck, sounds fun!!

UPDATE

The foot is doing well. I can start running again in a 2 weeks. I should be fine for IM MI (1/2). I have to skip a couple of runs and an OLY. But seeing as how I am still in line for my HIM, I feel fine about that. I know I could have skipped the MM and been better, but I really had a goal for this year of 2 full marathons and 2 HIM's. There was no way to meet those goals if I didn't finish the MM on my own 2 feet. In retrospect, it wasn't the best thing for my body, but I knew that. I am VERY happy that I still have the opportunity to make my goal this year. I've been trying to ease back into training. I am building up for my HIM in 9 weeks. I think I will be just fine. Good luck to everyone on their training and races this weekend.

Good luck at Grandmas this weekend Jim. I did the marathon in 04 and it is still one of my favorites of all time. Great scenery the whole way and the whole town embraces it. How is the weather looking?

Weather forecast doesn't look too bad, Fri night 57, Sat 76 but the half marathon starts at 6:30 so it should be good temps.  Should be a south-southeast wind which should help.  Last time I ran Grandmas I did a 2:51 into a STIFF headwind and that wasn't too fun.  I've done Grandmas 4x and it is by far my favorite course.

Half.  Goal is to grab on to the tail of the 6:00 min/mi tiger and hold on as long as I can no matter how much it tries to scratch and pee on me.  That will get me sub 1:20

sub 18 5k isn't even pie in the sky goal for me right now....maybe someday.

But I think I might be able to hit sub 20 at some point this summer. That would be fun.
