I finished it and that is about all I can say. It was very cold and I was not dressed warm enough. No rain though!

Time for Pei Wei Mongolian Beef and nap time.

sorry for my absence over the last two days, work was crazy because of a high level press conference we had to organize for our biggest client. now that's over so we can calm down (sort of)

anyway, you've all been doing amazing this week - i'll look forward to getting your minutes total tomorrow - just add up total minutes from monday the 5th to sunday the 11th...

we'll have another BT member joining our group - she's KLynne - her mentor had to bow out of the program... i've been chatting w/her off and on since danskin, so if you get a chance, give her a shout and welcome her to our group.

i have to clear it w/Carol if she'll participate in the challenge or not - so i'll let you know about that after i see her tomorrow!

have a great weekend!

Hi everyone! I'm K.Lynne the ones who begged Mary to join, since my mentor had to bow out. Thanks so much for taking me in!!!

Just to give you a litte background, (I've read all your stories and feel like I already know you.) I took part in my first tri last September and did another in October.  They were a wonderful experiences for me and I am completely hooked.  Last year my father decided to celebrate his 65th birthday by hiking the Bataan Death March Memorial Marathon through the desert in NM.  He did it and convinced my husband and I to join him this year.  That is what I'm training for now.  I spend all my time hiking though the parks of SE Virginia lately. (I really can't wait to get back into tri-training)  The march is on March 25th.

My biggest challenge was swimming in the beginning, although I really came  to love it, just haven't gotten very good at it.  I also hated running and also somehow managed to enjoy it.  The biking for me has just been ok and it's what I origionally thought I would enjoy the most.  Who knew?

I'm 37 years old, been married for 13 years and we 2 boys. The older one is 12 and in 7th grade, the younger one is 9 and in 4th grade. I'm a full-time home-maker and a part-time interior decorator.

Anyway I'm really thrilled to be part of your group!

Welcome KLynne. It is good to have you here.

Tonight I am taking my 10 year old to see about joining the local cycle club. I don't think I have mentioned this before but he has Asperger Syndrome (a type of high functioning autism) which means he does not do very well in social sports. He loves riding his bike, so we will check out if it is suitable. I might join too, but their lowest grade for adults rides a 20-25 km circuit and I am still on 15km. Now I really can't wait to get my new bike. I am sure it will improve my cycling time.

Also....

WhatamIgonnado? It is RAINING!. OK, before you laugh yourselves silly, we are in a drought right now and it hardly ever rains so we I am not used to it. I have no backup plan. I am not a member of a gym and all the local pools are closed during the school week bacause all the schools are having swimming carnivals there this month and there is only the baby pool to swim in.

Any suggestions for what I can do at home with no trainer or treadmill?

Michele - anxiously waiting for a break in the weather for an hour (please) today.

good luck w/the cycling club. i hope your son likes it. as for the rainy workout solution, i'm late in posting, but there's always core workouts and leg workouts that can be done right in the living room. i did 100 situps, 100 pushups (modified on my balance ball) and 100 bicep curls while watching tv tonight. i really didn't want a yellow square. lunges can raise your heart rate too, if you are looking to do something cardiovascular. then again, you could just run in the rain! its kinda fun! hope you had a great day!

okay so now that we are 7 in this challenge and we're competing against a team of 6, we'll divide our total minutes by 7 and they'll divide their total minutes by 6.

you all have been doing AMAY-EFFIN-ZING - (I made that up for JenBunn1e's RR from her last 1/2 mary - yeah, she's done several) keep up the great work!

go VAMPS!

here's our chart w/Klynne's numbers for the month so far - please double check them so i can be confident they are accurate: (and don't worry about the zeros that are posted in the future dates, the spreadsheet didn't like it when i just hit the space bar, because of the formula it needs some kind of value)

You are missing my minutes from the 10th and the 11th. They are both showing zero in your last update and that isn't correct.

thank you for pointing that out. its fixed now. the problem is i'm having to jump from each of your logs to an excel spreadsheet and in going back and forth, i guess my eye skipped a line or something. if you want to, please post totals here or just PM me to avoid confusion. thanks!

Hi Girls,

I am still getting the hang of the training logs and noticed the 'inspire me' notes there. How cool. LOL, thanks for pointing out I did NOT do 20 HOURS of stair climbing the other day, but 20 minutes. I have fixed it now (hanging head in shame). Next I will figure out how to put little notes in your logs, too.

The rain has stopped again and I had a nice bike ride this morning. There was a man on a tri-bike practically lapping me - he was sooo fast. The other morning there was a man at the pool and he had the ironman symbol tattooed on his shoulder (I suppose where everyone could see it when he passed them - why not if I earned one I would do that, too) and he was just powering up and down the pool.

It is hard not to get disheartened when I see my goals, thinking 'boy this is so hard - how will I ever get to do the Nepean Tri at the end of the year?' I am already fitter than I was. I have finally shifted some weight and lost 5 kg, so if I follow my plan I hope I will get there. Even so, it is difficult not to feel the goal is out of reach. What do y'all do? Is this just me? Any tips? You were all riding along with me in my mind today and it did help. Really.

don't stress the "inspires" i didn't know what they were for a while when i first joined the site. as for the tattoo, are you kidding? i'd get my forehead tattooed if i did an ironman!(well, not really, but you know what i mean) congrats on the weight loss, every little bit counts! as for your nervousness about being able to do this, we have all been there. even the seasoned athletes on this site have doubt, deal with injury and family stress. once in a while i check out coredump's log - he did ironman kona last year. his training is obviously on another level, but he's a regular guy otherwise. then there's autumn, she's a mentor w/two kids who has done several marathons and triathlons and rides a bike like its part of her body. these are good examples of people who just fit the triathlete lifestyle into their life. another suggestion would be to look back at my log. when i first started training, way back in july of 06 i logged my first "run" of 2 miles... it took me 35 minutes and as you know, i just finished my personal best of running 4 miles under 40 minutes. that's twice the distance in about the same time. i'm no ironman and i can't swim a mile yet and its been months since i've been on the bike. my reason for pointing this personal triumph out to you is not to brag, but to demonstrate that it can be done. taking little baby steps over a period of 7 months has really improved my running. you might want to start keeping track of your "best" time doing something so you can really see your improvement. remember, you have to crawl before you walk. there's a chinese proverb that says the temptation to quit is greatest just before you succeed. that is so true, so keep at it you will get there and you have your own personal fan club right here that will listen and cheer you on whenever you need it. you are amazing and will be great when triathlon day is finally here! rock on!
