Yeah. I say niner as 9 without even thinking about it from taking flying lessons. My instructor suggested I use it as much as possible to get used to it, so I use it for everything. Plus it's fun, and usually gets a response from people. I still use military radio protocols when talking. Never say "Repeat", always "Say again" (repeat has a very distinct meaning); use military phonetics for letters and numbers (hey, with my last name, I have to spell it all the time.....). I'm weird. Yup, I often have to give part #'s, serial #'s, model #'s, VIN's etc. over the phone. I'm aways saying "Uniform Tango Echo Alpha Victor Niner...." Because a lot of our part numbers start with UTEAV9. Speaking of phonetic alphabet... funny story. All of our shipments deal in bill of lading. Each bill of lading has a unique number that were alphanumeric (now mostly just numeric) any way people are very clever with making up their own phonetic alphabet. usually using people's names. Anyway, had this woman one day call and starts reading off her bill and starts with 'G' as in 'Jelly'. I ask 'are you sure you want to go with that one?' She didn't have a clue. 'umm... Ma'am, 'Jelly' starts with a 'J', not a 'G'.' I get an 'OH.' Nice... |
