The Marathon Stick by Intracell - Muscle Massage Tool http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/marathonstick.html I understand the concept. But I wonder if there's something already in the house that could do the job. (As I look around the room, and don't see anything like that.) |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread lyssa-gator - 2007-10-07 9:15 PM luckily, my legs don't really get sore. tight sometimes, and my knee bothers me occasionally. but it amuses me. the stick that is. it seems gimmick-y what do i know. i've been running all of 5 months I think it's based upon the concept of trigger points. Basically, your muscle gets a trigger point (tight spot), which can cause pain - and not necessarily where the trigger is located. For example, picture your neck as a "clock" with the Adam's Apple at "noon." There are some muscles that run up along your neck at about 2:00. Push your finger into them. If you have a trigger point there, (and you hit the right spot,) you can feel it all the way down near the collarbone. (At least I do.) So if the area around your collarbone is hurting, it may not be because of the collarbone. It might be that you have a trigger point in your neck..... I learned about triggers a few years ago. I was having a lot of muscle pain in my back, near the spine. I got a book about triggers, and found out that it was being caused by a muscle in the middle of my back. The muscle attaches at the spine - so that's why I had the pain there. But the "tight spot" itself was mid-back. I massaged the trigger area (using a tennis ball!), and the pain near the spine went away. So I'm a believer in trigger points. But you need to know where the muscle attaches, and where the likely trigger points are, in order for it to work. Edited by D001 2007-10-07 8:48 PM |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread i've never heard that trigger stuff before. i mean it totally makes sense though, so that's cool, i'll have to look around for some info on that. my BACK gets sore a lot. (more to do with being a mom i think than with the excercise) my legs just haven't really ever bothered me. i mean after like the first three or four runs anyway. i'm always a TAD surprised at that, considering i bought cheap running shoes at fred meyer. i've never had shin splints, i have some minor knee issues, but that goes back a long way (before i was married, i was a gymnast) would that stick thing work on my back?? that'd be awesome. assuming of course i could get ol' hubby to give me a back rub! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Thats why I sprung for the instructional video that comes with it for an extra $3. And you are right from what i understand about trigger points. Alot of folks have IT band issues also ... for a long time without pain untill bam out of running for 1-2months, PT, meds, electrodes, funky stretches, and such ... from what folks have said and this helps with that .. so folks have said. Anyway for $30 ill give it a try, my calves are always tight cuz i never overdo it. |

Veteran 151 West Allis | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I have just completed my week one training. I had to check how far Lyssa went for the week, and beat that so I finished my week one with a nice lil 5.6 mile walk/jog. That will put me at 17 miles for the week and I am VERY happy about that! 2 more weeks like that and I'll be at my goal by the end of the third week. This challenge has given me something to strive for, so I'm really glad I joined! Sorry Lyssa, better luck next week!!!! |

Way to go, gang!! We're doing great, especially considering we have one teammate who hasn't posted any miles yet. I love how we keep pushing each other. I'm so tired today, but I know I'll have to do my run tonight because I can't let you guys down. Whee! By the way, my numbers might look like I'm not quite on target to meet my goal, but I'll be ramping up the miles over the next couple weeks, as per my training plan, so no worries there. |

Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I'm here too. I knew, as I obviously should have mentioned earlier, that I'd have trouble getting any training time in last week. That's why I committed to only 30 and not 40 miles this month. My hopes were to resume over the weekend. However, I have 3 rather deep bruises on my leg which I sustained on Saturday. I'll be fine, but I've had to stay off of it for the last couple days. Things shouldn't be quite so crazy now, so at least i'll be able to post a thread or two more often to encourage the team while I recover. Hopefully quickly!! I actually have a couple pics for ya'. (Which I'll try to get uploaded tonight.) Nothing too exciting... just a bunch of black and purple!! I'm going to go walk a while now and will try to catch ya later!! Thanks for not casting out this Poison Apple! GO TEAM!! |
