Without that being an issue, how much time do you think you would have gained?  Just curious.  Very impressed.

NEVER play that game. There is no such thing a s"would have" in Ironman, there just is. Pet peeve of mine.

I guess I have been lucky in this regard because I use aquasphere OW goggles, and inevitably my goggles fog and I cannot get them cleared.  In the Bigfoot race (OLY) I was fogged 100% of the time and literally could only see the big orange buoys above water and people under water if they were close enough.  I refuse to take time to try and clear if it just keeps happening . . . and they haven't been used more than a couple dozen times total.

I am not perfect at spotting, but really not too bad considering . . .

Great Race Report Kelly.  You truly stuck to your plan.  I have to imagine with all the excitement going on, it's hard to do that.

My question is, how common is it to hav GI issues like you did on the run, totally slowing down your pace.  Without that being an issue, how much time do you think you would have gained?  Just curious.  Very impressed.

11 hours of racing is tough on the body, I think a lot of people have GI issues at some point and I think I did a good job of managing nutrition to not have any issues until very late in the race.  Probably cost me about 10 minutes -- nothing huge.  My hope at Florida is to finish in the low 11s so I'll never reach that point.

I agree.  The race is what it is (but I still would have preferred to not have GI issues).

I imagine 10-17 hours of "what ifs" will drive you nuts if you let it.

No, not during the race, post race. I can't tell you how many RR I have read from people who make every excuse under the sun why they didn't do better and why it's not their fault. And then they come up with some arbitrary time they feel they should have finished in. I just shake my head.

That's what I meant.  A lot of things happen and you make a lot of decisions in that amount of time.  Replaying everyone over in your head to a different conclusion seems like it could be a bit much.  Seems to me the race is what it is, you identify your mistakes, and correct them next go would be a better train of thought.

Ok, so I had my time wrong -- I posted off my Garmin not my chip time.  Looks like my Garmin is auto pausing whenever I'm not moving in "multi sport mode."

Total time was 12:47:11 (still not horrible).

Totally agree Bryan, I was just curious how much time she actually lost from GI issues.  I have friends that do that, only in golf though.  "well, if I didn't go out of bounds here, and I didn't miss those two putts, I would have shot an 81."  My response is, "you did hit those shots, and you did score 81."

When I first started this in January/February, and then finally got outside on the bike, I would complain about the hills in my area, and how it affects my overall speed.  I quickly got away from using those excuses, as it was discouraging me comparing to someone that may ride a flatcourse all the time.  Either way, it's the terrain I have to deal with, and suck it up.

I appreciate your honesty on this thread.

there is a difference between excuses and explanations.  "I would have raced 10 minutes faster if my chain didnt break and i had to wait for SAG to show up" is a very reasonable explanation of why your time was 10 minutes slower and not an excuse.   to quote my friend Rudy "Race times do not lie."  they are what they are.

Not only does that time s suck, but you are a teerible person to boot your deception is unforgivable.

Kelly - your time is amazing and you should be so proud of yourself.  That course is a monster.  your marathon time is amazing.  PLEASE dont post your food: eat cheeseburgers, drink beer and enjoy yourself for a few days... then get back to it and get ready for Burlington and florida.

Great race report, Kelly!  You did an amazing job.  I can't imagine completing that distance right now.  That's pretty awesome!  We'd love to see some pictures once you have some time.

soy turns boys into girls... meat, bacon, cheese, beer are the 4 food groups (yes, bacon gets its own food group).

So wondering, since I don't know your history, how many Ironman's have you done and what were your times on each of the events & transitions.

IMLP my 3rd.  I did Louisville in 2008 in 15:40 or so and Arizona in 2009 in 14:30.  I wasn't properly trained for either and essentially walked the entire run on both -- not a pretty site.  Even though LP was the closest to where I live, I was scared to do it because the course was tough, I finally sucked it up and got serious last year and had a pretty good day at LP.

Even with better training, those are some pretty amazing improvements!!!  Did each segment improve with each race, or any one segment more than another?

I can't wait to see what you do to the IMFL course!  Are you working your way around the US?  I though you said you were doing IMTX next year?

Read your report today while at work Kelly, very nice! Sounds like you had a pretty good day overall, minus the GI stuff near the end.

So I come home to an email from the race director of the one that was just cancelled. The RD of the OTHER one I was thinking of doing in September (Elephant Man Tri) is offering us a 25% discount on the entry. So I'm pretty darn sure I'll be doing that one now!

I like the Elephant Man Tri name -- I think its a good call to go with it.

I believe IMMoo is Karen's second.  Florida will be my 4th (and Shaun's 4th as well).  And Bryan is just the master.

At IMLP my swim and run splits were both faster than IMAZ (swim by 10 min and run by almost 2 hours).  My bike split for IMAZ and IMLP was pretty much the same but AZ is flat and LP has 7800 feet of climbing so its really comparing apples to oranges.
