Erick Barrondo, who won the silver medal is now as you can imagine, a national hero and a positive inspiration for many! We saw it on Telemundo. Its funny, We were watching soccer with the dullest commentators EVER, and I told my kids we can turn on Telemundo and it does not matter what the sport is the commentators will make it sound like the best thing ever. It was such a cool coincidence, especially since my oldest daughter had just come home from Guat. |

Unfortunately, our athlete was given 3 penalties and disqualified at the 42km mark. However, we are still thrilled with his performance and his first medal. How was your daughter's trip through Guate? Never heard from her but hope she had a good stay! |

Had a great rest day yesterday too, went down to Mpls and got a long list of things accomplished while down there including new cycling shorts at REI! And got to have one of my favorite meals, Thai Chicken Pizza from CA Pizza Kitchen. Going to take the rest of day off today and continue my streak of checking things off the "to-do" list.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Longish run on the cooler side, only 82 degrees at the end of the run. Felt great, one of those workouts where you end up feeling much better than you thought you would. Very efficient HR/pace ratio, no decoupling... If I stay in this path I may do well in Florida. ![]() | ![]() Joe P I wasn't trying to imply humidity didn't matter. It does. Also, today I found another way humidity matters. Whenever my shirt gets soaked, my heart strap screws up. Today mine had me up to 186, which is impossible for me. Then I would adjust the strap and it would fall to 145 or so. This kept happening. Today, 13 mile run at 1:25 pace. Was running along nicely yesterday and looked down to check HR and it was reading 103. This was 4 miles in at an 8:30 pace in the treadmill in a hot gym. Nice thought, but Really... 103? Adjusting the strap popped it back up where it should be at 139. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 4000 yard swim today in 1:01. 600 w/u, 400 drills (tip drag and fist drill), 5x350, 250, 2x150, 2x200, 300 cool down. 30" rest in between the 350's, 10 seconds rest between everything else. I've got to add, I'm really glad we're keeping track of how close we're sticking to plans. I've always been way too relaxed about doing what my plan tells me so I'm really enjoying the extra peer pressure to stay on top of things this month. I'm hoping that between sticking to my plan, plus a little more mileage than it calls for, I'll be able to have a solid run performance in Arizona. I'm really worried about having to walk/run 26 miles in some absurd amount of time, and I'm hoping by sticking to my plan and doing a little extra on the bike I'll be able to make my 5 hour marathon goal not so much of a stretch.

![]() I did a 4.0 mile run and 1500 m swim. I am done for the day. Two weeks ago my BT coach, Julia, recommended that because i had been so inconsistent for 2 months that i start back with new plan to prepare for some upcoming sprint races. She suggested that by focusing on consistency rather than length i would gain back confidence. I think she was right. Consistency for me has always been a fleeting accomplishment; my M. O. has been to be consistently inconsistent. I hope this time I can be more consistent for a longer duration. I agree with Andy, and am glad that we are tracking consistency this month. I am grateful for everyone for letting me participate in August challenge - I know my time is quite short compared to most others who have done fewer workouts. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK, need some nutrition advice. What do you guys do for fuel on a long bike ride (3+ hours)? I have been doing nuun tablets (electrolytes) in my water bottles, eating clif bars and payday bars, and eating gels during my long rides. I weigh 110 lbs. I feel ok, but it seems most people that I ride with are faster with less effort and they bring mega nutrition. Last two rides: 40 miles (3:30, 11.4 MPH) 352 cal, 52 g carbs an extremely easy effortless solo ride 55 miles (3:40, 14.8 MPH) 542 cal, 89 g carbs a faster ride in a group with some climbing

I used Perpetuem mixed with Heed in my water bottles. Much easier for me than Hammer gels, but I did take a few of those. Eating is enormously important. I was told to put down at least 1100-1200 calories during the bike leg. You weigh about 2/3 of what I weigh (sigh), so you should probably put down between 750 and 800 calories. |
