So, right when Ernesto can barely train due to work and health issues (and yet still find the time to answer our questions), I thought it would be a good time for a well deserve thanks, maybe I can motivate him once instead of the other way around.

I could not agree more! I have gotten so much out of this group and from Ernesto I really appreciate this opportunity.

Ernesto (et al)

Reflecting on my 5 months of regular training for triathlons, I cannot pass the opportunity to thank Ernesto and the rest of the gang here for all your support, motivation, and advice. People always say "you are the one doing the work", but I am sure that the improvements that I have made would not have been as great if not for the regular feedback from this group. I feel very lucky to have chosen Ernesto as my mentor, and I am sure I am a better triathlete for it, but more important, that I would be  a better triathlete for it, for many years to come.

So, right when Ernesto can barely train due to work and health issues (and yet still find the time to answer our questions), I thought it would be a good time for a well deserve thanks, maybe I can motivate him once instead of the other way around.

Although maybe I should wait to thank you all AFTER my second race at the end of April...You know, just in case I chokeWink

You will not choke my friend, this only gets better! Thanks for the kind words, I really wish I had more time in my hands right now to look at the thread and get on my bike, or in the pool or even put my running shoes on and take off. Things will get better or I will make them better.

Also, it takes open mindedness to swallow your ego and train slow so kudos to you. I have found myself many times being passed by people slower than me on the bike, or even running during training. All I can say is training is training and racing is racing. The time to pass people is after the gun goes off, but even if you don't, the love for the sport has to be there.

Stay motivated! Smile

19.5km run this afternoon. Was a battle as I did not maintain no hydration and was very de-hydrated. Did a 7km loop around my place and stop home for a drink. Was not enough and only managed a 5km loop the last time round. Need to drink more. Lesson learnt I hope.

Rest day tomorrow. Look forward to a long sleep in

Taking my point for today and yesterday. (Yesterday for day before race and today for race.)

Result: 1:34:37 which is a PR by 44 seconds. 6th out of 111 in my age group (45-49 year old males). 96/972 males. 108/2432 overall (wow. very female race.)

Hard race. It was hot (well, ok, about 68 at the end), but sunny and very humid. Weird as heck. The lake is still covered in ice, the trees not only don't have leaves, but most don't even have buds. Grass is still brown. And it was basically downhill for the first half, uphill the second. A real race report to follow, but here's the link http://connect.garmin.com/activity/158774944

Thanks everyone for the prayers about our son.  Hopefully further tests will show that there is nothing to worry about.

Rachel and Kevin....so sorry to hear about your loss.  You and your family are definitely in our prayers.

Chris....rocking race time and congrats on the PR!!!!!

I had a decent ride outside today.  I think I'll keep the rides short for a while so I can get used to riding the hills here after months of riding the trainer indoors.  Today was 12.25 miles in 40:43.  I'm pleased with the ride and average of 18 mph.  I'm still having HR monitor issues though.  Anytime I get going over about 20 mph (even downhill), my HR monitor says my HR jumps up to 250 bpm or so.  I have the chest strap adjusted as tight as it can go but I can only guess it is still a little too big so that the air speed causes it to not read correctly.  At this point all I can do is ignore my HR unless I'm going uphill when I'm going slow enough so the HR monitor works correctly.

Took a slightly different path than Scott did but still a nice 12.7mile ride.  58:26 avg 13mph, HR 150.  I know that may seem so slow but I am still getting used to the hills. This was a very enjoyable ride 12mph winds but tomorrow winds are projected to be around 28mph.

Chris, congrats on your new HM PR, that is an awesome time and look forward to your race report!

On a separate note, Samy and moi are thrilled with Lehigh's win against #2 Duke last night (that is the farthest Lehigh has ever gone).  Sorry Mitch about Michigan.

Today I got in a good bike ride. 61 Mi, 4:03 + a 1hr, 10K brick run.  Now ready for a nice cold beer (or two)!

Have a great weekend and St. Patty's Day!

Chris, congrats on your new HM PR, that is an awesome time and look forward to your race report!

Thanks!

On a separate note, Samy and moi are thrilled with Lehigh's win against #2 Duke last night (that is the farthest Lehigh has ever gone).

Chris, You're the man!  Way to go.

Gabe, I miss you guys too.  Work is a pain and I'm just training so I don't punch someone there.

Joe and Mitch, Are you taking any days off?

Jen, that is not slow at altitude up hills with a bunch of personal stuff going on!

Ernesto, You already know how much you've helped me.  Thank you.  Who would have thought I'd be where I am today in the triathlon world.  I actually managed to hang on with the lead pack on the ride today.  I think the headwinds on the way back were about 20 MPH.  It's great that we can all encourage one another, even when you are temporarily unavailable.

Joe and Mitch, Are you taking any days off?

I was wondering if Joe and Gabe could forget to do two a days once or twice so I can sneak past them...only got in one discipline today and I felt guilty...Tongue out  Joe and Gabe are animals...my volume compared to theirs and a lot of folks here (Jackie!) isn't even close.  Everyone is doing a great job this month!

Yes, 32k run. Bloody hell. Not planned, but I felt good running after 1hr and decided to change the route. Glad I did. In 2 weeks will do the same. That's what you have to do to run a marathon and hopefully not go through much pain.

Oh, and 30min commuting bike ride.
