tricrazy - 2012-03-26 7:29 PM Okay, I have to vent here for a second.  I am so angry with my kids right now I could spit nails.  We just had the interior of the house painted last week.  Just last week, remember that, it is important.  What did I find on the walls today?  Writing!!  On my brand new painted walls!!  That we paid somebody lots of money to do!!!  I could seriously strangle them!!

Ugh.  I don't even know what I would do if that happened to me. Really sorry.

I just saw my tri photos, I'm pleased with these one's because they really seem to show that my running gait is improving with much more forefoot striking and bringing my heel up higher. This was my first race in the Kinvara's - HOT RED!

I won't show the swim exit photos, I look completely bald!

The first thing I thought when I saw these photos was "GREAT FORM"....and I do dig those shoes.

velcromom - 2012-03-26 3:59 PM .........and the MG is dead!

Long live the MG.

Ran a 5k on Sunday.  More painful than I had anticipated it as being.  But my brother was running it as well, and I had to make sure I beat him.  I knew he was running, but we were not able to meet up before the start so I had no idea of his pacing.  Ran a fast race, and was happy to beat him (by more than 6 minutes, but who is counting).  Still sore sitting here at my desk, but happy.

6 min on a 5K?  You not only beat him, you SMOKED him!!  Contrats.

I forget how old your kids are...so I've got no concrete advice other than make sure you take pictures!!  You will laugh at this someday.  Make take decades, but you will!!!   If they are old enough to get the consequences idea, charge them for repainting.  Doesn't need to be cash- could be pulling a fun event (even a trip to icec cream!) because now you need that money/time etc. to pay for the repainting.  If they're older.....hit their savings account for painful (to them) token.

Then put them to bed, and pour the wine!

Linda's right -- take pictures!!!

Our comparable story is when we got a new coffee table... and my son decided to CARVE a MAP into it. He was very busy with a paper clip, carving roads and cars going on the roads, etc. The coffee table is sitting in front of me right now -- that must have been 6+ years ago. Hubs put something on to color the wood again, but the marks are there for knowing eyes. Kid's still alive too...

Hugs! Those parenting moments just suck. There are lots of suck moments. Good thing they're cute and we have lots of non-suck moments too.

Is anyone riding speedplay pedals?

I saw the fitter last night.  He raised my seat a bit and changed the angle on my cleat.  Hopefully that will help fix my knee issue.  However, he mentioned that I might be better switching to a pedal with float and suggested speedplay.

Any opinions on the pedals?  Currently I have shimano 105 pedals.

Iron training question:  My last and current plan topped out at 18 miles for the long run.  My normal marathon training has two 20 milers and a 22.  Is the 18 something you could push if you can tolerate it or is this just not worth the risk with the high volume of everything else?  My training partner has multiple 20's and I was wanting to maybe catch the last couple with him.  What are the opinions?  A little more info- I am still dealing with a nagging arch pain from CIM but I tolerate the 20 milers usually well.

I switched to speedplay due to having knee pain at the end of long rides.  I no longer have knee pain!  There is a couple different types that have more or less swivel in them but they worked for me.  I switched from the same pedal you are riding too.

If it's important to you for other reasons (social, etc), and you think that your body can handle the load, go for it.  I don't think that you need it for IM training - way too much else going on.  IMHO......I wouldn't do it.

Oh man my legs are sore today. And I didn't even run a race. I volunteered. I spent Saturday at the Antelope Island Buffalo Run Race. It had a 100 mile, 50 mile, 50 K and 25 k races. Antelope Island is in the middle of The Great Salt Lake in Utah.  The cell phone coverage is not good so Ham radio guys were doing commucations for the race. Amatuer Radio is one of my hobbies and for this race I was assigned to assist the assistant RD/volunteer cordinator. Armed with a hand held radio and an ear piece. I pretty much stuck with her the whole day relaying messages about runners, aid stations that needed supplies ect. We did alot of walking, alot of loading supplies, alot of removing trash removal, alot of helping runners. And She walked fast everywhere I sure got a workout and I had a blast. It's crazy how much goes on to support a race. It was a trail race so even some of the aid stations were hard to get to.  I have increased respect for Ultra and trail runners.  All in all a good  day.

Tiana

Thanks for volunteering! I've run it twice, and it is an awesome venue! Did the buffalo give you any trouble? LOL

*edited because I Terped it

Love the pics, David! Great job!!!

Congrats on crushing the 5k, William!

Tony- As you know, you learn more with every race. It'll all come together for you. I'm super impressed that you do these races at all. Way too scary for me!

Hope all the rest of our racers had fun over the weekend! Updates or RRs?

*edited to add the couple I missed

My darling "middle child" scratched a racetrack into my brand new stainless steel refridgerator.  Five years later it's still there.  Still bothers me, but not as much as it did back then.  Best part, his favorite place to eat breakfast faces the refridgerator.
